@MrJuno6 i'm quite sure Knopfler misses and adds a few notes EVERY time he plays it. What is it with people like you slagging off a decent guitarist who has taken time out to show lesser mortals how to play such a song? Have you ever wondered in the studio Knopfler may have indulged in a little improvisation, it is VERY hard to duplicate that even by the artist himself if asked to repeat the exercise let alone someone else doing it and besides it's quite sad doing a carbon copy
you show good taste in keeping finger picking, many use the pick but the finger tone really does sound better for this ... the jittery vibrato is good for some effect but I found when i tackled it head on and practiced it for a 2-3 months slowly/cleanly/relaxed I acquired more control and ease.learning to twitch the right muscles and not tense the others makes all the difference
thanks for posting this lesson(you have fingers like me,lol)
i'm working on it. But i find d tone produced by fingers (m,a) a bit rash. It's not as good as using a pick. What do u usually do to produce tone while finger picking? Now when i play d bass strings are too loud n d lead strings r not fairly audible . I tried it out 2days ago at a stage n it din't work quiet well. I play mostly using clear tones .
gr8 video. I'm basically a classical guitar player. But i'm always confused when it comes to electric guitar. About using d pick or not to. What do u think? Would u advice me to finger pick? Is it possible to play every lick using finger pickin instead of a pick?
@dcalstring I started learning to play guitar with pick, but I used to lose them XD. I like Mark Knopfler's sound and his stye is fingerpicking. But I use picks as well. Try both ways. Thanks for comment!
I noticed 4 out of the 6 magnets were protruding out of the pickup ? what pickups are in that guitar, also what amp are you using, and were are you from, please answer all of the above so that I can ask more detailed follow ups cheers. I just bought a USA 1995 ltd strat with matching head stock, its 50th anniversary and in mint condition, but I want that guitar more.
@TheTangentUK knopfler did not use texas specials on his tour on that guitar like everybody thinks, he use a lesser output pickup selection and used effects to get his tone, I was talking to lindy fralin who confirmed this also. are U using any effects their.
@Playinginthedark ok, does that tone port have a knopfler preset, as that tone you are getting is as good as any amp, I just spent £1000 on a amp and you are getting close with probable a £200 device, that sucks lol
@TheTangentUK LOL I think that once cost me just over 100€. Not an specific MK tone, just a clean tone I call "Communique" :-P. (I have the default action, I think it's good for me)
@TheTangentUK how have you got the action set on that guitar, mine is low, but I have started to rise it a little to get a better tone, lots of people think you should have the bridge saddles level, but what they fail to recognized is the fret board is a slight oval from e to e string, so I set my saddles in the same fashion, in a kind of arc, and I get no buzz at all, and the action is very very low.
One of the best Guitar Tutorials I have ever watched! many Many Thanks!
