  • You're right...to a point. The three you mention were the last protected ones. The Scabs were allowed a grandfather rule for one year after the first draft. Why, I dont know, but the Scabs were always getting favourable treatment. I quote Stephen Brunt and Dan Diamond as sources. Perhaps you should learn all the facts before you call somebody names or question their intelligence. But then I understand all you whiny Scab fans are babies when you dont get your own way, right?

  • Any hockey fan (from the era, especially) with a heart tears up watching Orr in those clips.

He was someone ya had to love, even if the Bruins weren't your team (and they weren't mine).

    One of a kind.

    Thanks for posting this.

  • Orr was Mozart and Chopin and Bobby Fischer together on the ice.. he was just levels above anyone else with his great talent, but he also was very brave and wanted to win badly for his team. How do you eclipse that?

  • Don's the man, great look into the past!

  • Who else but number 4 Bobby Orr!

  • Bobby Orr was the GREATEST player who ever lived! Gretzky and Lemieux were great too, but Orr was the best. Such a shame injuries took their toll and cut Orr's career, way, WAY too short!

  • At the End when his head gets so inflamed it can't even fit in his suit he reminds me of my hamster when he stuffs his face XD

  • the only thing i got out of this video is the only reason don cherry won any games as a coach is because bobby orr did all the work.

  • Get help.

  • Cam "Knee"ly was SCARED of Wendel Clark and Tie Domi on many occasions... hahaha. Fucking typical yip yap Ruin... hahhaa

  • Orr fucking sucked.... SOmeone FINALLY nailed the motherfucker and now he's DEAD. THANK GOD.

  • I find it ridiculous that you guys would even hate on a man because he was speechless after being reminded of nearly 4 decades ago, about everything he loved then and everyone he loved. It wasn't that Bobby Orr made him speechless but it brought him back to that time and he got emotional. The fact that you guys rip a man for becoming emotional on camera is fucken ridiculous and disgusting, not to mention decide to downgrade everything he does by taking personal shots, you are the 'cocksuckers'

  • The cocksucker ( Don the Con ), had nothing to say after a 1:32 video?! Christ dude; I could put together a montage of over 5 MINUTES of Mario Lemieux EMBARRASSING Raymond Pork every time he stepped on the cocksucking ICE! Orr - Playing against 19 DRUNKS from the bar the night before. Just barely bringing CURVED STICKS into the NHL. Cherry was the WHINER after the too many men on the ice Penalty in the 70's. The ONLY player he never talked shit about - Orr. Lemieux and 99 would destroy him.

  • @StaalRulz Lemieux would be pouting in a corner and 99 would be looking for Mcsorley to protect him while Orr glided by both of them. I guess there's nothing else to talk about in Quebec right now. Maybe you could watch a video of the Bruins hoisting the Cup to pass your time.

  • @bruins020477 Guess what buddy. Another 39 years. HAHAHA. Fuck you. The NHL gave you the cup cuz they felt bad for you. Mario never had anyone protect him. And by the way - he had WORSE than what Orr had - Cancer you stupid motherfucker. And 2 herniated disks... LOL. You Massachusetts natives are so fucking stupid.

  • @bruins020477 Hey Ruins fan? When did you make your account; in June??? Well, at least you made it out of the first round this year. Usually Montreal deals with you in the 1st round. Your goalie bailed you out against Tampa.

And about your Orr skating around the entire rink, how come Quinn and Mahovlich nailed him both? Not so smart after all, eh? Like the Patriots, too? If you HONESTLY think that skaters were better back then than today than you're seriously FUCKED in the HEAD

  • Not to mention in the Stanley Cup. After Horton got his career de-railed, the NHL felt bad for the Ruins so had to give the Cup to Don and his Eastern Conference team. See, there's a lot more money in the East. Why don't you try beating a hockey dynasty like the Red Wings ya fuck. A REAL team. Then come talk to me. The goal tending was absolutely ATROCIOUS in the 70's and NO ONE blocked shots. Nowadays, 75% of shots are BLOCKED!!!!!! If you can't see that you're a typical MASS native.

  • @StaalRulz2010 Actually I live in Ontario you pathetic piece of shit. The Bruins won the Cup because they deserved it, who fucking cares who they beat you fucking cumbubble. I see you dont ever announce who your team is, you just jump on the bandwagon of whoever you can think of. Wendy was the most overrated player in hockey and Tie dummy would have to bite Cam on the ankles. Good luck, one day you'll make it out of your mom's basement and get out of your Star Wars pajamas, sheepfucker.

  • Comment removed

  • Actually, I live in Ontario you pathetic motherfucker. Actually, I got your mom's blood in the trunk of my car. I'm getting ULF Samuelsson to drive the limo. If you think Kneely could take on Domi, you're an idiot. I know you are A WOP. Why? Because Canadianized Italians all like Boston. Are you a mason too? Drink and get nasty? Go eat a whopper you cocksucker. I'd love to pin your mom under my car and do a burnout on her KUNT you Ontarian POS. One Year Wonder. All you are.

  • @bruins020477 You do realize that your coach, Claude Julien and Bergeron, your best face off man are french canadian right?! Not to mention your second best defenseman in franchise history, Raymon Bourque ( after Orr) , is french canadian. Also, alot of people of french canadian descent live in Boston and the north east of the USA. About half of Quebec's population migrated there in the seond half of the 19th century because of poverty.

  • @max432156 Didn't think I said anything bad about French-Canadians. Just saying they (especially Scab fans) have a lot of time on their hands since there's not a lot of playoff hockey there.

  • @bruins020477 not a lot of playoff hockey?? Do you even follow hockey?! we make the playoffs almost every year, we went to the east conference finals in 2010 dumbass

  • @max432156 Read the whole previous comment Scab fan. I said not a lot of playoff hockey RIGHT NOW.(in my previous post) You got a whooping one round last year and you probably wont see anything this year. The sooner that you whiny fucks realize that the Scabs no longer have a divine right to go the Cup and accept the fact that the Bruins won it, the easier it'll be on you. Sorry, next time I'll repeat everything word for word. Please don't call the cops on like when a dirty Scab gets hit.

  • @bruins020477 Did i ever say we have a divine right to the cup?! The bruins winning the cup was last year get over it. How did we get a whooping last year?! If you would have sweeped us, than that would have been a " whooping " but we brought it to a game 7 and you guys were the higher seed. Btw you never said '' RIGHT NOW '' but i guess retards like you like speculating what they want to hear... anyways the only reason you guys won the cup is because Daddy Campbell was protecting his bruins

  • @max432156 Sorry, that was supposed to be "whopping" not "whooping". Of course I can't expect to read between the lines with the tears still in your eyes. Since you fucking morons think "daddy Campbell" won us the Cup, let's go back the days when the Scabs were allowed to keep the top two French every year. Now, that's protection. And that is why you fucking crybabies still believe you have a divine right to play for the Cup. Don't bother replying, I wont be reading your drivel.

  • @bruins020477 LOL are you obnoxious or what!! I have respect for every team in the NHL who goes far but not for the bruins, Rome shouldn't have being suspended, Horton should have kept his head up, and Chara's move was premeditated just like Bertuzzi. Let's go back to the day were francophones were treated like shit by the refs but we still won the most cups, unlike the bruins we won our cups in a fair way, we didn't need help from the Director of Hockey Operations.

  • @bruins020477 Dont talk about things you know nothing about, retard. The only guys the Habs had rights to were those that werent already signed to C forms by other teams. Every other team in the league had an opportunity to sign whoever they wanted. Michel Plasse, Marc Tardif and Rejean Houle were the only players to ever play in the NHL that were protected by the french draft. Learn your facts instead of making yerself look even more retarded than your name implies.

  • @StaalRulz2010, seek psychiatric help. It's free in Quebec go to: ementalhealth . ca/quebec

  • @14goldmedals Ahhhh it's okay for Thomas to GM12 Sedin right in the FACE and it's okay for Lucic to run after Miller... The fix is in for your team. It's okay. Try that shit with Fleury and Deryk Engelland or Steve MacIntyre will beat the living shit out of Lucic that serb bastard...

  • @StaalRulz2010

Is it staalrulz, crazyhorse, or billybob smith?

  • Don cried? So he is human after all? I knew it.

  • Bobby Orr must have been a coaches' dream.

  • At least when he chokes up, it shuts him up!

  • Is it just me or was hockey a thousand times better back then?

  • @gtc1961 HAHHAHA YEA RIGHT. It was the best when MARIO was introduced to the NHL... Fuck all you Quebec haters!!!

  • cherry rules!!!!!!!!!!!

  • To cry is to be a Man... anyone who says otherwise is not a man.. but a scared boy

  • Grapes is crying because Orr represents a different era in his life. He sees these clips and is brought back to the early 70's, when he was a younger man with tons of potential, and when his wife was still alive. Give him a break folks, Don's the man.

  • @defusious Exactly!

  • How many cups they won with Orr?

  • @MyWordizBond 2: '70+ '72.

  • There's always something about being there to watch a true hockey icon in their prime that doesn't quite do it justice with highlights. Cherry got to see it live with Orr. Having grown up in Edmonton, I got to see it with Gretzky. I'm sure people in Pittsburgh would say the same about Lemieux. Montreal with Roy. On and on. You feel a special connection to that player that other fans don't get to experience.

  • Easy to understand Cherry's affinity with Bobby Orr. His first year coaching the Bruins was unnerving as it would be for any first year head coach. But Orr took a lot of pressure off of Cherry by scoring 135 points and finishing a +80, and set Cherry up to have a nice run as Bruins' coach.

  • He's a Beauty!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1

  • What a hockey player this Bobby Orr!!

  • When did Cherry start really getting into the silly suits? Not saying what he was wearing in the videos was nice, but not as far out as they are now. I like Don Cherry really, takes a lot of balls to put those things on!

  • Part of the whole effect to Don was that his son Tim created the montage. I think THAT and it being a tribute to Orr and Don....really got to him. And who can blame him ! Love ya Don !!

  • Whats the name of this song?

  • @SchomiraDesignGroup1 Nobody does it better, by Carly Simon.

  • There will never be another Bobby Orr. No wonder Don cried there. The man was the greatest ever defencemen to play in the league.

  • amazing goal 0:07

  • The only time I saw Grapes speechless. lol His book was awesome. Its called Grapes.

  • When of the best moments on HNIC ever. Gives me chills. Orr was the best!

  • This is just as much a montage of Cherry as it is of Orr. What a joke lol.

  • @CrazyHorseRunningBat i want u to get the hell of u-tube and go actually watch a hockey game. u probs think that wihner gretztky is the best player of all time. he aint he's the best pussy of all time. like really who the f*ck gets tko'd by someone when they have their glove on? only wayne

  • @Vinny19rocks wrong the sedins are the biggest pussies ever

  • this holding a handheld at your television stuff has got to stop

  • Hey everyone have you maybe thought that crazyhorserunningbat is a troll? They are fed by you freaking out, chill out!

  • Bobby!!!!

  • Don Cherry simply got lucky as a coach. Coaching in a watered down beer league with two of the better quality players, Espo and Orr.

    Nuff said already.

  • @CrazyHorseRunningBat He really sucked. So what if he won 2 cups in 3 years and is the only players to this very day to win all 4 major awards in one season,. I think the players of today are overrated because they play with their little helmets on and their shields, at least Orr was a real ma.n.

  • @CrazyHorseRunningBat I think you meant best player in the history of the NHL*, troll.

  • @CrazyHorseRunningBat Bobby Orr is overrated ???!! Seriously ?!! Are you even a sports fan - much less a hockey fan ?!

  • I could listen to the very few people online who saying Orr wasn't amazing or that he "wimped out" and was over-rated ... OR I could believe my own eyes and listen to Hockey's great players, coaches and commentators who say he was one of the, if not THE, most skilled players the game has ever known. Hmmmmm .... not a hard decision.

  • @isbourne "one of if not THE greatest players"

    whats the difference?

  • more pew pew less QQ plz

  • Orr didn't even make the Canada Cup team in '72 wimping out saying he had a sore knee.

    Priceless......

  • Orr played in an industrial beer league era. Most of the players worked in factories part time, drank beer smoked and never worked out. The compettion was weak.

If Orr played today he would have the skill set of a 4th line D in the Q.

  • @CrazyHorseRunningBat well yeah your right most players back than would have to get jobs and drank beer but still Bobby Orr was one of the greatest defenceman during those days and nothing can change that!

  • It was great to see the soft emotional side of DC.

At least now, we know that's he's a human being .... well, sorta.

  • I just wonder why didn't anyone fuck Orr up? Cos nowadays when a good player comes everyone tries to taunt him all the time

  • @WFR I guess you didn't see when Pat Quinn hit him. Clean hit, although these days they'd call it a "head shot" and it would be on prime time CBC. I won't quote Bobby, but even he said he had his head down. Big difference between hockey then and "hockey" now.

  • Orr was a rock star! No one before or since can hold a candle to his talent. The man was Superman with a puck. Too back his knees weren't made of steel!

  • Germany won against Russia in the IIHF World Cup 2011

2 Goals to nothing this is a very big surprise and the german team played well.yeaaahhhh JA JA JA GUT GUT DANKE

  • for the first time ever don cherry is speechless.

  • @mitchhak2 This is the greatest and best comment ever, good sir.

  • The best part of this video is watching the Rangers look like a bunch of idiots trying to catch Bobby Orr.

    Loved it hahahaha

    Rangers suck cock.

  • BOYCOTT MOORES - DONT SUPPORT A RACIST

  • My grandfather once told me " If there was two rinks side by side, and Bobby Orr was in one, and Gretzky was in the other, everyone would be at the rink Orr was playing at"

Orr is the greatest player ever, what other defenseman have you ever seen who could play that kind of offense as a DEFENSEMAN.

  • @ardellgough That's bullshit. I would sit in between them so I could see both rinks.

  • That's the first time I've ever seen Don Cherry speechless...

  • Bobby was great, Cherry was/is mediocre

  • Oh and to BillieBitchSmith/CrazyHorse...Orr is indeed married to Peggy orr they live in outside of Boston and also have a house on the Cape and have 2 sons. the reason you never hear about here is that they decided to keep their family live seperate from the NHL life/spotlight so they could raise their children and you know what? People respected that and left them the hell alone.

  • Few things here first off BillieBobSmith...nevermind I dont feel like clubbing a baby seal today. Personally I think this arugement is foolish but I will say this, You never hear people talk about Gretzky the same way the talk about Orr from the old guard of hockey to analysists. I think when a player attains a certain level is it foolish to compare them to another player.. Orr, Gretzky, Howe, Lemieux etc etc all are on that level.

  • @BillieBobSmith btw I know you and crazyhorse are the same you just want ppl on your side what a loser no wonder ur such an idiot.

  • @BillieBobSmith ROFL why dont you fag I dont need some idiotic asshole to tell me to shut up

  • @GoalHornDJ Thanks for killing a beautiful and inspirational video for everyone watching, you fucktards...now go meet somewhere and make up already.

  • @BillieBobSmith Rofl your the real fuckhead you can't make me shut up fool 95% of the ppl will agree with me not you dumbass just get outta here fuckface i'm to g for you

  • BillieBobSmith is an idiot dont listen to him if u disagree with him he's just an idiot who cares what he says and he's wrong about Bobby Orr and go ahead talk shit to me Bob cuz u cant do shit to me i'll tax u up fool

  • @BillieBobSmith Dude Orr is a great player alright so quit complaining all of you

  • @BillieBobSmith Good point about the Oilers travel, but what rules were changed to hinder Gretzky??

  • @BillieBobSmith Ray Bourqe has more..

All time goals by a deffensman.

all time assists by a deffensman.

all time points by a deffensman.

better than your boyfriend Paul Coffee.

Are you going to bash Ray too !

  • Billybob/Crazyhorse--to reiterate my point, watch the goals Gretzky scored against Montreal in the 1981 playoffs when they upset the Canadiens. Sevigny (however spelled) let in some very lame goals.

  • The gig is up BillyBobSmith; you and Crazyhorse are the same person. I will not get into a pissing match here. Orr revolutionized the game for defensemen. He was plus 126 one year, a record that Gretzky (one of only a few) does not have. Gretzky was the greatest statistically, there is no doubt about it. You can't compare eras. If one uses your logic, one could say that Gretzky would not have scored all those points today given that goalies today are better compared to the 80's.

  • @BillieBobSmith Yeah sure hockey was a joke back than cuz it was easier to score and the ice surface is much bigger.

  • @BillieBobSmith Yeah because back than it was easier to score and the fact that the ice length was much bigger compared to today's. And chill out there's no need for anger here.

  • @Flipstazzz NHL the ice surface is still the same size, has always been the same.,with the exception of the old Boston gardens which actually was smaller....Bobby Orr is the greatest hockey player of all time, Gretzky was only the greatest offensive player.Offensively they shared a lot of talents equally, otherwise Orr was all around better and much tougher

  • @MrDaemonB Not really if you notice the Pacific Coliseums ice surface when the Canucks played there it looked a lil bigger because of the corners.

  • bobby orr was the best defense/2 way forward of all-time. But you can't compare to Gretzgy.

  • @BillieBobSmith Why dont you search up his NHL stats and records than if you think he's overrated, he many not have played a lot of seasons but he sure became the first defenceman to win the scoring title.

  • @BillieBobSmith Bobby Orr is a great player no matter what the NHL says he's great, most great players say he's great so I don't know how he's overrated. He's the first defenceman to ever win the scoring title, and thats an achievement so for ppl like you who think you suck, you have no taste on greatness

  • exactly crazyhorserunningbat now you don't respond cuz u realised how much of an idiot you are. Why dont you try being Bobby orr than huh?

  • What's the music in the video???

  • fuck you CrazyHorseRunningBat. orr was the greatest player ever

  • @CrazyHorseRunningBat LOL troll faggot go play WOW loser nerd

  • @CrazyHorseRunningBat , you are literally the only person in the world who is that batshit stupid to make a comment like that

  • @CrazyHorseRunningBat GTFO fucking troll. Next thing you know your gonna say Michael Jordan sucked at basket ball.

  • @CrazyHorseRunningBat explain the 10+ scars on his knee you moron.

  • @CrazyHorseRunningBat I don't get it how does Bobby Orr sucks?

Name a few good reasons otherwise your a fucktard. Bobby Orr is one of the greatest players to ever play in the NHL even though is career was cut short due to injury but still he's great. I don't see how he sucks unless you have mental illness.

  • Bobby Orr:

His number is retired, but his name is eternal -- his jersey hangs in the rafters, but his legacy stratospheric.

  • You can't compare Orr with todays players. Today hockey is a much faster game than it was in the 60's and 70's, Orr would definitely not have the time he had then, today.

Though, you have to give him credit for being so dominating.

  • goalies were terrible back then lol

  • @jacob12721 yeah man just watch some of them play they are like 10-15 feet out of their net its so much harder to score in our generation of hockey then it was back then

  • @mrmahoganmapudan ik lol damn i wish i was born in the 50s lol

  • Grapes will never pay for a drink in any Boston bar I see him in. I'm sure all Bruins fans who watched him in the 70's feel the same. He inspired thoses teams to greatness. Thanks Grapes!

  • My intense props to all the guys that work at HNIC for such an amazing present to Don Cherry.

  • Don't cry Don ...yer not the only one with 13th / 6th man memories.

  • Don Cherry is simply showing these clips -- not claiming to have coached during all of them.

As for Don getting emotional, cut the man some slack! Many of us cry too ... and get goosebumps, and cheer, and shout STILL, to this day -- right from in front of our computers. No matter how old a clip is, no matter how many times we've seen it and already know the outcome --- simply because it's # 4 Bobby Orr and we can't help but react that way!

  • Do you realize this is like showing Bob Berry behind the Montreal bench for highlights of Guy Lafleur playing for Scotty Bowman? Would Berry have the temerity to sit there and cry? And Berry coached Lafleur for 2.5 times the games Cherry coached Orr.

I’m OUT on this topic. Enough said.

  • And I’m not saying that Cherry wasn’t a good coach. He had a great 5-year run in Boston. If not for the Habs, he would’ve won at least a couple of Cups....but not with Orr. Bobby said he wished he could’ve played for Don longer? Sure, no doubt. But he didn’t. And that’s where it ends. 93 games. Orr’s last as a Bruin. Yet, this clip has Cherry behind the bench after all of these pre-Cherry highlights.

Linking these Orr highlights with Cherry is bogus. That can’t be argued.

  • Comment removed

  • 1st highlight: Derek Sanderson is on the ice. A pre-Cherry Bruin.

    2nd highlight: #20 Gene Carr is a Ranger. Pre-Cherry.

3rd highlight: Helmeted #14 Bruce MacGregor on the Rangers. Pre-Cherry.

    4th highlight: Same as above.

5th highlight: Orr passes to Ed Westfall--a pre-Cherry Bruin.

6th highlight: Orr breaks away from Detroit’s Frank Mahovlich. Pre-Cherry.

7th highlight: Orr takes a pass from John McKenzie #19. A pre-Cherry Bruin.

Last pic. Orr with the 1970 Cup. Pre-Cherry.

  • Hey meds613! Well-crafted response.

You have an argument to my post? You CAN’T prove it wrong, because it’s the truth.

Cherry DOES acknowledge that he coached Orr for only one season (his last as a Bruin). Yet, he continues to exploit Orr’s entire career.

The image Don has worked hard to forge is: Bobby Orr = Don Cherry. Greatest player = Greatest Coach. LOL.

It’s simply not true. Don was a good coach. If not for the Habs, his Bruins would’ve won a couple of Cups, no doubt.

  • @centrehice Exploiting Bobby Orr"s career??????,,,,,,are you mentally ill???,,,,,,,,,Bobby has stated publicly that he wished he could have played for Don longer!,,,,,,,,Cherry has never incinuated that he was the greatest coach,,,,,,,,all he says is that he was proud to be a blue collared, hard working coach,,,,,,,,that his players would play hard for!

  • Comment removed

  • It wasn't only Orr's magnificant playing that made him cry, it was the music!

  • aaawwww...don cherry does have a soft hart

  • This feature is totally bogus. Edited to make it seem as if Cherry was behind the bench for all of those highlights. In reality, most of them are from before Cherry even coached the Bruins. He coached Orr for only 1 full season (74-75), 3 playoff games, and 10 games the next season--Orr’s last a Bruin. CBC and Cherry would have you believe he was Orr’s guru. In reality, he coached Orr for less games (93) than Claude Ruel coached Guy Lafleur (120).

    Ridiculous.

  • @centrehice shut your mouth you gutless pos

  • Orr only had 270 goals in his entire career! Gretzky had almost 1,000!

That is embarrassing. If I was Orr I would be ashamed. Most of the guys he played against were nothing more than industrial beer league players who smoke and drank booze all the time.

  • @CrazyHorseRunningBat Orr>Gretzky and Orr was a defenceman. Now go troll another vid you loser

  • @rcbasher101 FUCK OFF you pickle kissing fag!

  • @CrazyHorseRunningBat Good comeback doucher. By the sound of your insult you must be in grade 5, so this video is too graphic for you little boy

  • @rcbasher101 Go suck a pickle fag!

  • @CrazyHorseRunningBat First of all Orr was a defenseman. Second his career was shortened by knee injuries. The same knee injuries that prevented him from playing in the series against the Soviets. He also said that he wanted to get better so he could play for the Stanley Cup with his team. He actually had his priorities right. He wasn't going for the individual glory he wanted to play for the Stanley Cup with his team. They say he changed the way the position and game were played for a reason.

  • Bobby Orr was hockeys first gay player. The team would of beat the crap out of him for that alone, but he helped them win two Cups.

Every wonder why we never hear of his wife? Or kids?

  • Orr sucked. He wouldn't even make the 4th line on the Leafs today.

He should be removed from the Hockey Hall of Fame.

    Loser.

  • @CrazyHorseRunningBat you are a homer. go play baseball

  • @CrazyHorseRunningBat not only are your comments stupid, they are also disrespectful and show a lack of knowledge of the game past and present.

  • @CrazyHorseRunningBat You are the loser. Orr rocked

  • for me it's not about putting down lemieux or gretzky but about highlighting just how great bobby or was. consinsus seems to believe that those 3 are greatest or modern era. i agree--maybe greats from pre-1965 but i am not able to comment. that being said or was great in offence, denfense and neutral zones and for me is gratst player of the game of hockey ever to dat.

  • bobby orr soooooo amazing!!!

  • Younger fans will tell you that Gretzky was the all-time best. I've watch almost 50 years of hockey and I've never seen anyone as good as Orr. His end to end rushes were electrifying. He had the most accurate shot I've ever seen. He was the puckhandler I've seen. And I don't think I've seen a faster skater. When he was on the ice, the puck was always on his stick. No defenseman ever won the scoring title until Orr and it will likely never happen again

  • did he die that by bobby orr ??

  • I have never heard Grapes call Gretzky the greatest. Put it this way....Orr could block shots, fight, and did everything on offense that Gretzky could. Gretz could not and would not play defence. Therefore Orr was the complete package...thus making hime the greatest player ever.

  • Sometimes I sit in my room sobbing my eyes out, wondering how the hell this man was so gifted.

  • And stop arguing about Orr/Gretzky. Orr was the greatest Dman, Gretzky was the greatest forward. There both in the best ever category.

  • What Bobby Orr did as a D Man will never be repeated.

  • say what you want about don cherry being a loudmouth, when it comes to real hockey and real hockey players the man is all heart. amen to bobby orr, the best defenseman to ever lace up skates.

  • bobby orr is cool but you cant argue that gretzky was the greatest ever. even grapes said he votes for gretzky as #1 and orr as #2 when they did the hockey new best 100 players list. its a no brainer really, just look at gretzkys stats, theyre astronomical.

  • @dafuksup

If it wasn't for Orr there wouldn't have been a Gretzky! Stats you say Wayne was a forward Bobby was a defensemen, Wayne played a bit longer than Bobby. Orr opened the door for that style of hockey. To this day simply the best!!!

  • @phrodo99 uhh i dont deny bobby orr is the best defenseman of all time but how do you say he opened the door for wayne based on that style of play? wayne had his own style that couldnt be matched and his biggest inspiration was gordie howe. simply put wayne was the greatest player of all time but orr was #2.

  • @dafuksup Gretzky played for 22 years in the nhl, bobby orr played for 12, and only 8 of those counted for his plus minus ratio and bobby orr had a greater plus minus than Gretzky, if bobby orr would have played for as long as gretzky and orr kept his average plus minus per game, he would have had plus 3030 plus minus, and 1400 points, gretzky had 2800 points and 517 plus minus, ORR IS BEST!

  • @Leclwrd Gretzky played 20 years, not 22.

Also, I think that saying 'if orr would have played as long as gretz' and then do s a simple extrapolation is too big of an if.

Nobody keeps up their averages into their 2nd decade that they had in their 1st.

Plus, his playing style was reckless. It was assured that he would have knee injuries. Either he scores a lot and plays 10 seasons, or plays safer and longer but with fewer points per season. Can't have it both ways.

  • @dafuksup Yeah, I agree with the first part of your comment. Bobby Orr opened the way for offensive defensemen like Coffey. Gretzky's style was already the way it was and totally different.

When Bobby Clarke played against Gretzky in the playoffs, he said that with Orr, at least you can see him coming, with Gretz, he comes out of nowhere.

  • @dafuksup so Gretzky scored a bunch of goals and got a shit load of assists. ok. he was a forward, he did his job. what he didn't do was play defense. Plus Bobby was about 5 times as athletic as Gretzky and a way better puck handler, i mean, the guy could kill a penalty by himself. If he didn't have that knee injury, he would have gotten at least 1700 points

  • Orr was great, changed the game. I wonder if Don left his purse with all his tissues back home.

  • grapes is the best!!! carly simon rocks two

  • Don Cherry didn't need to say anything. You saw the tears and that was enough.

  • bobby orr revolutionized the defense position. He brought an entirely new light on the offensive defensemen and for that reason i think he should be considered the greatest player to ever play the game

  • bobby or was the best but you have to remember defense was shit goalies were small he was good good goals came easy

  • @wolfboy97 Boy, do you know nothing about hockey!

  • Shame that i never got a chance to see Bobby Orr play, his lasting impact on the game in undoubtable. The creator of the offensive defenseman, one of the greatest to ever play the game

  • Maurice Richard was the best player ever to skate on a sheet of ice

  • Orr was the best player at his position who ever played the game... He opened the doors of opportunity for others by and through his play! Don Cherry on the other hand was the greatest motivator of players in the league. He could make an average guy play above average and better! Thanks Grapes!

  • i'm a rangers fan and i have to admit that orr was the best!

by the way, did they have to have every clip versus the rangers!
