  • THANK YOU SO MUCH!!!! One of the best sons ever. I also teared up while listening.

  • They're from Pennsylvania?! Holy crap, until this very moment I thought they were British.

  • i think, no one, exept me liked it in school. its still great!

  • wouldnt it be cool to have friction and stabilizers play at rainbow gardens

  • Belongs on anyone's "top 50" list. Great tune, expertly performed.

  • One of my favorite songs of all time!

  • Awesome song - I played it twice tonight!

  • pure AOR!

  • thanks for the post this is great!

  • They're amazing.

  • and I was just 13 again...wow!! :)

  • I bought the entire CD just for this one song. I still have it somewhere.

  • @336kgf when i bought it ,it was on a cassette!

  • @ebound RIGHTEOUS! :) I loved those old CBS Records cassettes with the funky labels.

  • @336kgf Try "Tyranny" And "now I here you" they are Both really good as well.

  • @scooter167 The whole CD just plain rocks.

  • @336kgf me too :)

  • This song and video are classic 80's and definately one of my faves of the decade. They had a great album in Tyranny and is always a pleasure to spin that on the turntable!!Thanks for sharing this video!!

  • Stabilizers! I love this song! I thought it was #1 back then 4 sure b/c I heard it on the radio in NYC so many times. And I thought the singer's vocal style was uncannily similar to Julian Lennon. Made me wonder. It's still a cool song though. Musically, the '80s were awesome too.

  • I LOVED this song...

  • I cant believe it either...that this song barely made Billboards top 100. I loved this song enough to record it from the radio back in 1987 and im looking at that cassette right now. thats why im here now watching this video for the first time and ive already saved it to my playlist!! Way underrated song of the 80's!!!

  • I was stationed at Ft. Campbell, KY when this this was released. My younger sister was really into this song and kept telling me that one of our hometown bands had a hit on the radio. Being a metal head at heart I can still say that this song is truly an under-rated classic from the 80s. I have always loved this song.

  • Anyone from E-town remember the song "You Want To Know Why" by The Pulse from 1981?

  • @INISHMORE1974 E-Town are you referring to Erie PA?

  • @bnegs521 Yes I am.

  • @INISHMORE1974 E-Town are you referring to Erie PA?

  • Comment removed

  • @336kgf your response was borderline retarded.

  • @bnegs521 Then why bother responding to it? Flag it for spam and be done with it. I am perfectly fine with that.

  • @INISHMORE1974 Yes! The Pulse. Great band! Saw them several times!

  • @thunderdeed1 Yeah, they were one of Erie PA's best bands. Makes me remember The Snowmen, Damian Steele and Nightwitch as well.

  • @INISHMORE1974 And lets not forget Dirty Looks. I know they weren't from Erie but played here enough times to be considered citizens.

  • @INISHMORE1974 Damien Steele ! I was a member.

  • @thunderdeed1 Wow!, Really?..What instrument did you play? I always thought that band had a chance to make it big.

  • @INISHMORE1974 Lead Singer 1982/83 86/87.

  • @INISHMORE1974 Check out Damien Steele video R.I.P.

  • Why did this song on hit No. 83 on the Hot 100. One of best songs of 1987.

  • @bucky468

Erie, Pennsylvania. A small city in Western Pennsylvania about 2 hours outside of Pittsburgh, PA.

  • Believe it or not, I used to date the singer's cousin. The family is from Erie, PA, and are all really talented.

  • sorry it was the airplay charts not official top 75

  • on 1.6.1987 number 40 in the official top 75 german charts..but only 1 week in the charts

  • this is so "wonderfully 80's". best era for music. well, perhaps the 70's too!@

  • If youve got to be a one hit wonder than this is a fine hit to have. It would have been nice if all the 80's music had sounded this good.

  • i have been trying to find this song for sooo long hell yeah !!!! i love this song

  • @steffluv7 I have this song. I found it on Limewire,

  • thank you so much for posting this. the 80's was the last great decade for music.

  • @62beaver Correction, the 80s was the best decade for music. Although there were some lame asses that came out during that time. (Boy George, Duran Duran, Dead or Alive etc..)

  • Listen, at 2:53-3:18, to the lead guitar DUO with the 3rd (rhythm) guitar continuing the 4ths pattern behind it, with John Robinson and Neil Stubenhaus coming in hard at 3:05. Good stuff!

  • I remember liking this for the sole reason that they were the only band who sounded A LOT like Rush from that same era. Hilarious to me that the video's directed by the mighty David Fincher - it's as corny as it is slick!

  • one of the best bands to come out of erie, pa...way before their time and definatley should have gotten more recognition. killer vocal melodies. one of my biggest influences musically considering i was in my teens when these guys wer playing around here. check out viotech!!!

  • Way to go, band from Erieville, PA!

  • What movie is this from??? I know i've heard it before...

  • This is one of my all-time favorite songs. Thank you for posting.

  • @atreb56 Hi, it worked. This came in under my shared videos on my yt account! alright! Great song, I love the music from the 80's. It had it's own unique sound :) Thank you for sharing this with me atreb56

  • "1 person differs in my taste of music, I automatically hate him..."

    -All across youtube...

  • man this brings back memories, one of my favorite tunes growing up, didn't have it on LP but had it on cassette in my 4X4 and I went through 2 tapes...wow...truly, thanks for posting this!!

  • ABSOLUTELY !!!--- Anyone remember a song from 1994? The lyrics were " If I had the bluest eyes, maybe she'd notice me" The singer sounded a little like Tina Turner, what is the name of the band ? Song name ?

  • @kendante911 That sounds like

if you could only see by tonic

  • ABSOLUTELY !!!

  • i still have this album on vinyl

  • @speedPOLKAisBRUTAL

    me too :-)

  • me too :-)

  • If you're looking for other stuff from the lead singer, type in "Dave Christenson" on Itunes..

  • @christenson700 as in you are Dave Christenson that we grew up with on Allegheny when are you coming back to do a reunion u would sell out come on

  • This is one of my all-time favorite songs - I just teared up watching this. Haven't heard it in about 15 years (at least). THANK YOU!!!!!!!!!!!

  • alles aus den 80s hat so einen frischen, fetzig-innovativen touch. man merkt immer wenn etwas aus den 80ern kommt da es immer sehr upbeat und einen superben visuellen style hat. ein einzigartiges jahrzehnt

  • @torstn You're so right - the zeitgeist of the time was altogether different than it is today. I'd go back in a heartbeat.

  • Heard this song once back when it came out...it stayed with me until I typed "One Simple Thing" on youtube 2 decades later. One hit wonder my ass...this song has staying power!

  • This song was my reason for turning on the radio the year it came out. Couldn't remember the name of the band--thanks, Youtube!

I am planning to teach my School of rock students this song to include in their tribute to the '80's. Does anyone know how to get in touch with these guys for chord charts, keyboard sounds, etc?

  • I really like this song---first heard it on KSHE on their classic show about 10 years ago---liked it immediately, but you gotta admit, the 80's clothes.... Wish I still had that dudes hair though

  • Kind of disappointed that this song didn't make VH-1's "Top 100 One Hit Wonders"

  • @jwtenncom24 It should of.

  • @jwtenncom24 It would have if VH1 didn't include so many artists that actually had more than one hit.

  • Sorry eriesumers85 I almost forgot to thank you for the video especially when Iam right down the road west of you Cleveland to be sure

  • Heard this song one time in a bar over 20 years ago, didn't no the title or the artist and could only remeber the chorus part and then UREKA!!Thank you youtube probably have listened to it 10 -15 times now in the last 2days! simply great cant get enough

  • Thank you for putting this song on You Tube. I taped it off the radio years ago and could never find the name of the group until I got a home computer and the internet-Viola! It is very hard to find their recordings and when you do they are expensive! I will keep looking. I have you and Google to thank!

  • One of the best 80's bands that nobody heard of....I still have the casette tape and surprised it still plays!!!

  • nothing like turning on the car radio and "discovering" a song like this...then never hearing it again. The chorus stayed with me all these years and I found it again - that's a good song!

  • I have this on 45...Got turntables???

  • This was when women looked great with those BIG HAIRSTYLES. (Guys, too)

  • It's hard believe such a great song only peaked at number 93 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts.

  • Recently discovered tyranny and it's such an amazing album.

  • I totaly agree, its fantastic, I have had it on LP for years, just need to get it on CD now

  • I am the worst dancing white man in America, but only when this song came on in a club in 1987 was I on the dang dance floor looking stupid. I luvs me some 80's!

  • @cindyandlinda I'm worst

  • i think everyone in the eighties wore gloves.. at least one

  • this music sounds great today very underated band!

  • Can somebody upload Maybe This Time by these guys?

  • ha my band the changes played this song back in the day back when lil johnny could wear the teddie ruxpin outfit!

  • A very underrated song from the mid eighties that never made #1, but what a great group and song. What year precisely did it come out?

  • @fbenenati

1986 hit #93 on billboard 100--shame it was a great song

  • Thanks for your reply. I appreciate the time you took to research the info.

    Fred

  • @fbenenati

np, quick shot over to wikkipedia-

  • Love this song, but damn, that's some 80's hair!!

  • I've only known these guys from the song "Maybe this time" from the If looks could kill soundtrack and i love that song. Why i never looked into more of their music is beyond me but i sure will now because this song is awesome.

  • God! The men looked sooooo HOT in the 80's and 70's. They had gorgeous hair you could just run your fingers through. And the clothes they wore- tight fitting jeans & shirts. The men looked so SEXY! As a women I could just melt in their arms. What the HELL happened!!! Guys now look like GEEKS with their ugly bald heads and big baggie clothes. They remind me of my grandfather. When is the sex look coming back. It is time for a change in hair and clothing guys! Get SEXY AGAIN!!!

  • I just saw"That Thing You Do" on TV and it was set in Erie Pa. Brought this group to mind. I believe the Scottish guy worked in an appliance store and so did the hero. They looked a bit similar too!

  • saw this group play at the P.I. and other bars around erie in the 80's before they made this album. they should put these songs back on the radio. best song is "i don't need the pain".

  • this is one of those perfect pop songs, it's somehow really satisfying on many levels, can't explain it... good song, well produced. The video is um, well, very 80's...

  • Reminds me of the Pet Shop Boys videos...one guy sings, the other walks around or just fucking stands there.

The 80's were great and awful at the same time!!

  • @lungfixer

LOLOLOL! No shit man. That was funny dude! Pet Shop Boys...LOLOLOL!

  • Brilliant.

  • This is not just a song, it's an anthem! If Simon and Garfunkel could have re-invented themselves, in the 80's, with and edge they could have called on these guys to pull it off. The harmonies have that S&G "Hazy Shade of Winter" feel, but with more power and a more elegant delivery. This song rates in my top 5 all time greats. Great vamping at the end too.

  • This a great song I remember there being quite a few good songs on Tyranny and not bad for just 2 guys.

  • This song is fucking great. It still gets occasional radio play here in Minneapolis-St. Paul

  • Excellent song, my favorite from the tyranny playlist is probably "Underground" but this is fantastic.

  • Fantastic song!!!

The video, however sucks major balls. It's like every bad cliché from every 80's video put together. UGGGH!

  • I think the video is very good personally.

  • OMG!! I finally found this song!! This is absolutely one of my ALL TIME favorite songs of the 80's.

  • For best results, listen and don't watch the vidio!!!

  • Thank you to Upload this song... you don't know how much time I had been searched!!! I have searched for a long, long time!!! Thank you!!! now I have it in myspace

  • Thank you so very much for this song! I have searched for years to find it! I love this song!

  • to lx50coupe who cares what country its from if it good its good

  • Seriously, what do u think this song says ?

    Simple thing = Love ?

  • Probably one of the most under-rated bands of the eighties. Fantastic music, great talent and best of all..Made in America!!

  • Great tune. I had this cassette years ago. the whole cassette was great. Thanks for posting this.

  • I had always heard The Stabilizers had a "lost album" that never got released by the record company. I wonder if that's true. Would have loved to hear it...I loved "Tyranny."

  • I found "Tyranny" on eBay and paid a small fortune for it, as for the lost album check out the soundtrack to the 80's movie "If Looks Could Kill" a Richard Greico movie (remember him?) the Stabilizers have the BEST song on an absolutely fabulous soundtrack, It's called "maybe this time"~~~Seven Red Seven is heavily influenced by these guys~~a shame they disappeared off the radar such a great group!

  • It looks like "Maybe This Time" was on youtube at one time; I wish whoever had it on here would repost it.

  • i'VE LOVED THIS SONG FROM THE 1ST I HEARD IT VERY FIXX AND OUTFIELD TRY THEM BOTH

  • Wonder where this was shot! Erie, maybe?

  • No, they shot it out in LA. Should have shot it in Erie.

  • These guys are fantastic. This entire album is great. Next to "Friction", The Stablizers are the best thing to come out of Erie PA! Lived in Girard PA for 20 years!

  • I found this video on youtube b/c I was looking to see if Friction was on here. Born and raised in Erie.

  • An absolutely fantastic and vastly under-rated song. Thank you so much for posting this here and keeping it alive!!! An absolute add to my playlist! THANKS!

  • OMG! Heard this in the Philly area when Q102 was prog rock. Had the album(yes album); wore it out. Replying to the comments collectively, this stood out even with the appropriate now dated sound. The whole album is very good. Would love to hear a cover version from a modern era band; would likely hit if done properly. You guys done good; "big time" just wasn;t in the cards, sadly..may have lifted the 80's to a better level.

  • As I recall I heard it only once in 1986- in the fall. I actually called the radio station to ask who did it. When I was told "The Stabilizers" I thought,"what an unusual name for a band. And they don't sound stable at all"! That was it until I heard the song on a nostalgia radio program. It once won "best of set"- the deejay said "today the Stabilizers rule!"

  • By "don't sound stable" I meant they were very intense....that's all....:)

  • what ever happened to these guys ?

  • GREAT underrated song ! Timeless, and well written !!!

  • I grew up in Erie, PA watching these guys evolve from one of Dave's early bands, The Prophecy into the Stabilizers. What a geat time in my life... 21 yrs old and checking out the crazy bar scene in Erie w/ bands like these guys and so many others. You don't get a whole lot of musicians hitting it big from Erie but I was glad we have at least two... Dave Christenson (Stabilizers) and Pat Monahan (Train).

  • If they would prefer to keep their privacy they don't have to answer...but it would be great if they read all our posts... ^*^

    Dave you were cute.

  • Comment removed

  • intense4200,where did you go to school?

  • i am also from erie pa.

this song is so well put together it is mind boggling. the haunting guitar solo is reminiscent of bryan adams "run to you".

    the 4 standout cuts IMHO:

    if i found rome (today)

    sounds of the underground

    one simple thing

    tyranny

i am loving that a new gen is appreciating past art and masterpieces, and recognizing it as such!

  • Didnt one or two of these guys go to Prep or Mcdowell high school in Erie,Pa back in the day?Great band! Many memories of this band .Awesome!

  • Dave graduated from Cathedral Prep in '81.

  • Had the cassette a long long time ago, found on it CD too .. .. Great 80's synth pop .. shame these guys didn't make it big ..

  • Wow...memories! 80's, College in Rochester NY and my sweetheart! Thanks for posting.

  • Well, thinks for posting it, PereMarquette! The first time I heard it I went out and bought the album. It's a forgotten classic, and the video is beautiful...Do you think his hair looks kind of like the pineapple? Ah, the 80's! A time for gel...

  • Thanks, Sally... except I didn't post it. Thank eriesummer85. I still have that videotape somewhere.

Gel? I think a team of architects worked on that hairstyle. :D

  • Well, you do appreciate an excellent song! Gosh, what do you think those architects did for extra cash when the '80's were over? :)

  • I recorded this video on TBS's Night Tracks back in '87, and finally located the CD sometime in the early 90's. I know I didn't pay much for it.

The rest of the album is good, but this is a standout. Love the guitar in the bridge.

  • I thought this was about a Utopian society in the future where all needs are filled except "one simple thing" (love). It may be something else. I wish I could ask the band!

  • I have this on 45...

I'd sell my soul, to have my 20's back...

  • Fall 1986. I was a senior in a small town in Colorado. My friend and I used to rock this song in his 1974 datsun 240Z. Good times, Good band Great memories!!!

  • I lived on the west edge of Chicago / kinda rough area when this song was popular, if you could say that - because it rarely got radio play.

Once I was in traffic, and there was this guy - looked like Charles Manson, in this total junk big boat 60's Chevy - and I looked at him at a stoplight, he had the same radio station on - and he was singing along with this song, same as I was :)

    Love it!

    Thanks for posting it! :)

  • The beautiful memories made me cry..Glad to see so many loved this song as much as I did. Very haunting.

  • Their music is so haunting. Makes those of us who grew up in Erie in the 80s open a floodgate of memories long buried. Hard to believe its been over 20 years. What I wouldn't give to see a retro resurgence of this type of music overthrow the prison culture "smack da bitch up" nonsensical rap that pollutes popular music today.

  • Amen to that.

  • @writerjeff01 I'm a fan. your words, no truer spoken.

  • @writerjeff01 Not to mention all this Lady GaGa, Katy Perry, St!nk, Pussycat Dolls, Fergie, Ke$ha, Miley Cyrus & other bubblegum boy/girl bands from today that have just polluted the radio & TV airwaves to death.

    Classic rock "Tea Party" anyone?

  • OMG this was the best song ever of the 80s. I remember calling a friend of mine who worked for a radio station and he did the whole request thing and it was GREAT!!!

  • Great tune ! Reminds me of hangin out at Docs and Sherlocks in the great town of Erie,Pa.

  • Sherlock's...now that brings back memories. What about the P.I.? Before they tore it down to build condos.

  • What I wouldn't give to re-live the '80s. Our children will never know what they're missing by having to grow up with so incredibly little good music.

  • Are you kidding me? This is one of the greatest songs of ALL time! I had never heard anything like it before, and doubt I will ever hear anything like it ever again. Just heard it on a local rock station in St. Cloud, MN and it brought back a flood of memories! Thanks for posting!!!

  • awesome song totally overlooked band

  • Thanks very much for this song. First heard it in 1986 when I went surfing with one of my buds in Cocoa Beach, FL. Lots of SOUL here in hair disguise. A shame they didn't survive.

  • Thank you for the long-over due post of an

    over-looked song

  • Great and sadly-overlooked band. A victim of the era. Great quality post, thank you! (now, if we can just find a good copy of "Tyranny".....)

  • Thank you so very much! I have searched for so many years for this song!

  • I remember driving to work one day in about 1984 or 1985 and hearing this for the first time on Rock 100: the KATT, in OKC. It blew me away, but sad that it did not seem to stay around very long, and sadest of all, that I never hear it played on the classic rock stations I listen to, whether at home or wherever I travel. What a great song. It truly was "jammin'", as jeetman100 says.

  • I agree with everyone-this was a "jammin" song that should have been a classic. It was one of the first songs I ever looked for on u-tube. Thanx for the post!!!!!
