@PersiaFasahl The way I understood it the 1968 version and the 1971 version are the same except for the announcement in the beginning. I'm guessing you are referring to the 1938 version when you say "the original"? Then I would have to agree.
@tuschman168 The 1971 version was cut down for time. Also the disc jockey and the music played in the beginning of the 1968 show was better. I'm just sayin'
Miscues: Locations mentioned on Grand Island during meteor landing do not match up on actual map. Several times reporters react to aircraft and explosions before the audience actually hears them because director Dan Kriegler had to add sound affects live to save tape generations.
imagine if on the same night, someone listening to WKBW listening to this decided to turn the dial...and accidentally stumbled upon a rebroadcast of Orson Welles' version. Just something that popped into my head. BTW, the 50th anniversary broadcast on National Public Radio in 1988, starred Jason Robards, Steve Allen and Douglas Edwards as, last I knew, was available on CD (this is for WestVirginiaRebel).
This is such a great adaptation. Can anyone help me find the 1968 version? Someone sent me a link years ago, but I lost it after a computer crash. :( Thanks for posting this!
@TheGoldengirlfan I can assure you there will always be some people who will fall for it as long as it reaches a large enough audience. We could do this tomorrow and there would be worried calls. Not everyone knows the source material. Even with the Tom Cruise film been made. In fact I think it's time for another radio incarnation, don't you?
@WestVirginiaRebel Really? And here I thought I had everything related to The War Of The Worlds or had at least heard of everything. Damn! Now I have to track that version down.
@tuschman168 Man, do you know my version of Orson Welles0s WOTW? You can find it here on youtube by searching "The War of the Worlds by Orson Welles - the comic/video adaptation"

It would be kind of hard to pull this off since most radio stations don't even carry news these days. Sad but true.

Thanks...there was also a version done in 1988 for PBS (I think) for the 50th anniversary too.
