  • Narada Michael Walden plays drums on this number. Phil Collins and Jerry Marotta play drums on "Exposure" as well, but not this track.

  • Why can't I dance to this song?

  • Why all the trolls insisting that Phil Collins is drummer?

LMAO. Even talented "sussudio" Phil didn't have the chops to play this.

(he actually did, but trying to double-troll here... but honestly, he was not the drummer on this song)

  • WTF?! It's just RED! Is Fripp making a joke?

  • Ick. Another metallic overdrive piece I don't like.

  • @hiddenfire65

You may not like it, but recognize nothing like this existed in 1979 when it was released. It was still DISCO in 1979. Robert was (and is) an innovator always out of step with his time.

  • DRUMS HERE ARE PERFORMED BY PHILL COLLINS..

  • @AMERRVINZ This has been discussed many times over, and I can promise you that the drummer on this track is Narada Michael Walden (of Jeff Beck Wired fame), and not Phil Collins. Just sayin'...

  • @corkykab true

  • @AMERRVINZ Not phil on this tune, its Narada Micheal Walden

  • @AMERRVINZ collins plays on disengage and other tracks..and said in a modern drummer interview this was some of his best playing ever

  • The KING of Crimson

  • of course Collins' playing was solid (especially "Foxtrot" on your list) but my point is that MNW was a hella more technical and kick-ass, that's all.

  • The five people that disliked this touch each other.

  • Can't ellaborate words. I'll just click the like button for now.

  • larks tongues/red

  • surprised at all the comments stating that Phil Collins is the drummer.

    nope.

Micheal Narada Walden is the drummer.

tsk tsk - you "drummers" should know better!

a finer example of how freaking shit awesome this drummer is, it is IMPERATIVE that you check out "NY3" (another song from the "Exposure" album), which really showcases his jaw-dropping playing.

Aside from bits from "Selling England..." and "Lamb..." Collins never got this technical, meanwhile MNW did crazy Mahavishnu shit before this.

  • @666uberstud666 Well Collins was great on Foxtrot, Nursery Cryme, Trick Of The Tail and Wind & Wuthering, too.

  • @666uberstud666 I'd say check out Collins' work with Brand X. That's his fusion band to Narada's Mahavishnu Orchestra. They're both pretty sick.

  • Anybody remember what tune Narada Michael Walden wrote for Jeff Beck?

Who wrote and played bass on JB " Wired " Head For Back Stage Pass?

Answer this and I will send you a download of Breathless" Live!!

  • @whisper6969twice - I'll admit I had to look this up on my old vinyl - Walden wrote 4 tracks: "Come Dancing", "Sophie", "Play With Me", "Love Is Green" - and Wilbur Bascomb played bass on (and co-wrote) "Head for Backstage Pass" - Jeff's the best guitarist alive imho

  • Brand X. John Goodsell (?) ,Phill Collins, Percy Jones, sometimes John Whetton, Allan Holdsworth? . Help me here you guys and Gals !!

  • The drummer is Phil Collins

  • Pure genius.

  • some real high calibre musicians on this one.

  • ugh! i just saw StickMen and Adrian Belew Trio at the Iron Horse and StickMen TOTALLY tore this song apart in a f*ckn amazing way that is!!

  • @mdvo5 I saw them at the MOD clud in Toronto

This song was a great addition to an already mind blowing performance! Best show I have ever seen by far! Stick Men were a great way to start off that show

  • Great track. The fact that it basically recycles the "Red" riff and gives it a nice clean new wave sheen is not a criticism - one of Fripp's strengths is his ability to structure his musical output as a continuous refinement of recurring themes.

  • sounds a bit like an uglier Genesis noise

  • I really should listen to more of Robert Fripps solo stuff, since Robert Fripp and King Crimson are one and the same.

  • Narada Michael Walden I believe. Fripp met him through touring alongside Mahavishnu.

  • red, part 2...

  • @badmuddy That is true...

  • Awesome D: !!!

  • can we all be agreed that the drummer IS a drummer and not a clever little box?

    @ those down there

  • @Rikk303 the drummer is no less than Phil Collins

  • @maGiKPhiLn Brand X days?

  • @maGiKPhiLn Thought I recognised the tub-thumping. Cheers Phil

  • @maGiKPhiLn : The drummer is Narada Michael Walden, I'm sure of it :)

  • 5 People need an education in music....(looking at the thumbs down)

  • @frankkubb rather a pompous attitude. Taste really. My sister goes into toxic shock if you even mention celery....personally I love it

  • @Rikk303 Ummmmm...Ohhhkay....

  • @frankkubb what in the hell are you talking about?? Im talking about the dislikes...

  • Fucking Amazing!!

  • dem...dem..dem...

  • I thought this was Narada Michael Walden on drums on this track.

  • Bravo!

  • Back in the day we used to tell people to... "Disengage" LOL.. I really love this album.. It made me a huge Tony Levin fan.. I was lucky enough to see the early 80's version of King Crimson... They didnt disappoint.

  • FRIPP!!!!!

  • Best thing Phil Collins ever did.

  • @v1ntone How can you discount Brand X unorthodox behaviour? shame !

  • @jsilence418 Can't forget some of the moments on "Product", the drumming on the track "Not good enough - see me!" is mind boggling.

  • @rexasul Actually product is just that, and pretty forgettable!! how about Morroccan Roll ??

  • Has the same effect as listening to Cream...not the same thing, of course, but every bit hangs together perfectly...awesome music..

  • Drummer Narada Michael Walden makes this work..........freaking awesome stuff!!

  • @Davechop54 Was just thinking this same thought.

The drums are great in a general sense, but the odd meters (7/4 in the beginning, and then ???? in the middle) really make it a difficult piece -- and the drummer just kills it, bringing everything together.

  • @DanMcOgden1 the drummer is Phil collins!!!

  • @logonazo the drummer in this song is Narada Michael Walden, Phil Collins plays on "Disengage," "North Star".

  • @DanMcOgden1: Think he does a 9/8 in the middle section. Narada Michael Walden puts it even harder to get along... :)

  • @DanMcOgden1 Narada Micheal Walden on drums...

  • @DanMcOgden1 and FYI, Tony Levin on bass

  • @DanMcOgden1 there are four or five signature changes ..Fripp has written extensively on this tunesaying it was his best to date....fyi drummer is Narada michael Walden and of course bass is Tony Levin

  • @DanMcOgden1 The middle section is in 11/8 counted 6/8 + 5/8.

  • drumistically fantastic

  • Great union. Powerful.

  • If you think Geddy Lee can touch Tony Levin you don't know a thing about playing the bass. Geddy prays every night to be like Tony.

  • @zelator29 I obviously know more than you given that I am right.

  • Feeling the mighty power of King Crimson on this! KC eats Rush cereal for breakfast

  • @sbyre888 Never. KC are a poor man's Yes

  • @irena7777777 Hah! Yes....soooo gay.....nothing similar in any fashion between Yes and King Crimson....that's one of the stupidest comparisons I've ever heard! You really don't like complexities or off beat syncopation do you? You must be whom XTC wrote a song about...the Mayor of Simpleton...

  • @sbyre888 Actually, I love Offbeat Syncopation - their last album was outstanding.

  • @irena7777777 KC is a poor man's YES??? Um... no

In my book. KC is #1 & YES is #2.

But that's my book. To each his own.

  • @Lightmane321 You're book is written by an illiterate.

  • @irena7777777 WOW! Do you always talk so nice to people, or am I just special in your eyes

  • @Lightmane321 You're a non-entity in my eyes...a sentence or 2 will suffice to shut you up

  • @irena7777777 What happened to you, in your life, that you talk so cruelly to people that you don't know?

  • @Lightmane321 If I was you, I'd learn how to correctly use commas before you try to get clever.

  • @irena7777777 Whoops. You got me skippy. Thanks dude. That's the nicest thing you said to me so far.

  • @Lightmane321 Ignoramus

  • @irena7777777 you just can't help yourself, can you

do you actually enjoy insulting people?

you should try treating others the way you'd like others to treat you. you might find that life is more enjoyable that way. just a thought.

Glad you like YES though. I say "Close to the Edge" is their best.

With King Crimson, it's Epitaph for me, but Starless is a close second.

You should try listening to more King Crimson. You might change your mind about them.

    They're truly amazing.

  • @Lightmane321 I'm actually just being an arse, don't pay me no heed!

I only have one YES album and it's CTTE, I do enjoy parts of it but fing most of the music self-indulgent. The only KC album I have is Court of the KC and I like it. Just bought their Power of Belief album because it's kind of electronica/drum and bass oriented. What other KC albums would you suggest I buy?

BTW, you should try listening to Porcupine Tree if you haven't already. A really good English Prog band.

  • @irena7777777 Thanks for the recommendation. I'll check them out. I recommend every album by both Yes & Crimson - lol. But I would definitely check out Red & Discipline. Thrak is cool too. I don't have any of their stuff after Thrak, & I'm probably missing a couple before. 3 of a perfect pair is the last I bought before buying Thrak.

You definitely should get Fragile by Yes. The songs Heart of the Sunrise & South Side of the Sky are great, which I'm sure you already know.

  • @Lightmane321 I'll get myself Fragile, haven't heard those songs but I'm sure they're worth checking out. Wakeman is a god on the keyboard! I also like ELP, but some of their stuff misses the mark with me I have to admit. Think I'll need to acquire myself Red and Thrak, Red first I think. Red has been reproduced and reedited recently by a great musician called Steven Wilson, who is the lead guy in Porcupine Tree. You should really check them out, couldn't recomment them highly enough.

  • @irena7777777 Cool. I'm gonna check them out right now. See how much more fun it is to talk to each other like we're actually friends - lol

Of course, I enjoy sarcasm, so feel free. Name calling is fun too, as long as I know you're just... "messin' around" ; )

don't know if I used my commas right this time, but then again, you spelled find as fing. HAH! : )

  • @Lightmane321 Yeah, that was meant! Do u like Rush?

  • @irena7777777 Of course I like Rush. What do you think I am, an idiot? ; )

  • @Lightmane321 I'm going to see them in May, will be my first time seeing them live. U got any idea what to expect from that? I expect they'll be shit-hot

  • @irena7777777 I've heard they're not that good anymore, but I wouldn't know. I know they're old - lol. I didn't care for the little I've heard of their last album. I like the old stuff the best. I hope they're still good though.

  • @Lightmane321 Who knows, I'll soon find out, I guess!

  • @Lightmane321

I'm going to go see them too! In Stockholm.

  • @irena7777777

If you haven't listened to Rush's Snakes & Arrows Live, you should. I think it's phenomenal.

  • @necrotelicomnicon Ihave Live in Rio which is good, if slightly raw, I thought. R30 is excellent. Is Snakes and Arrows live even better?

  • I used to think it was Phil Collins on this track, because it does sound like his work with Brand X, but it is in fact Narada Michael Walden on drums. Tony Levin on Bass. Geddy isn't even mentioned in the sleeve notes.

  • very...very good/ funky guitar!!!

  • IS IT PHIL COLLINS OR NARADA MICHAEL WALDEN ON DRUMS HERE?! OR BOTH?!

  • @ksjoyjespeace Narada is on this.

  • this recording it´s a gem! .... i like it!........... listen to david byrne & brian eno - my life in a bush of ghost '81 or lone rhino of adrian belew first solo album '82, another gems.

  • This is Fripp at his very best, and the bass is great but take a listen to Magma's "De Futura."

  • Thanks for posting

  • Super Platte mit Peter Hammill und Peter Gabriel.

  • Tony levin on bass... yea he's ok... :)

  • KC is clearly influencing RUSH here . . .

  • This was "hands down" - THE BEST SOLO ROCK DEBUT ALBUM EVER RELEASED...

  • Tony Levin is a god among men.

  • Monster. This is just monster.

I first got Exposure in my mid-teens not long after Discipline was released, so maybe 1981? I knew it was genius but it was so harsh to my ears that I made a cassette with the songs resequenced to build up gradually in intensity so that I could stand to listen to it. :-)

IIRC the peak was NY3: "Your house!" "MY HOUSE!" "Your house!" "MY HOUSE!" "Your house!" "MY HOUSE!" "WELL GET OUT, THERE'S THE DOOR!"

    Monster.

  • fripp looks cool wearing the suit and tie.

i'm sorta new to KC (have ItCotCK, Red, ItWoP and listened to most of discipline, so far i like. although ItWoP's first few songs sounded similar to some of the first albums songs)

  • Time signatures are on Crystal meth

  • This fabulous disaster is commercial suicide and that makes it even better.

  • Guitar is brutal! Drums are brutal! Bass is brutal!

Exposure is the E=Mc2 of contemporary music.

  • People don't pay enough attention to the AMAZING bass guitar work on this album

  • @MetalTillDeth44 I agree, my brother had this album when i was growing up. I love this track !

  • @MetalTillDeth44 Fantastic ! That m u s t be Tony Levin.. No wonder he later got with Crimson

  • @trillomarka1919 ...and Bill Bruford. This was the stuff that lead to reforming the band.

  • @TigerRocket Hello TigerRocket- Not sure if you were implying that it's Bruford on this track, but I'm nearly certain it's Narada Michael Walden, if memory serves me correctly... anyway, nice to meet another Fripp fan!

  • @MetalTillDeth44 i agree! tony levin plays on this track. he's the best bass player on earth, in my humble opinion!

  • Comment removed

  • @mauricioverderame : Is there some inside info. regarding Percy Jones playing on this track? It's Levin. Jones was with Brand X in '79.

  • @wings1998 : Hi, brother. I was very sure of it, but it seems I was wrong, cause even in Percy Jones official page the credits do not appear. I've searched a lot, and was forced to admit I've made a mistake: definitively it's Tony Levin playing there.

  • @wings1998: I'm removing the wrong info, ok? Thanks!

  • @MetalTillDeth44

    Tony Levin

The master of bass all over the world

  • @MetalTillDeth44 and the drums is not amazing? the band is amazing ;)

  • @MetalTillDeth44 having been a a bass player I do, my favorite track on this album is exposure

  • @edchuckndoug Bass by geddy Lee on this track

  • @irena7777777 Tony Levin on this track...

  • @bassmanjoe Geddy

  • @irena7777777 TONY LEVIN !

  • @ksjoyjespeace Geddy, without a doubt.

  • @irena7777777 it's Tony Levin , he may have Geddy Lee's style , I love Geddy , but it's TONY LEVIN !!!

  • @ksjoyjespeace Wrong! Geddy is ten times better than Levin so don't compare them, bitch.

  • @irena7777777 The bassist on this track is Tony Levin. He played bass on tracks 2 3 4 5 6 7 9 10 & 12.

Also, nobody is doubting Geddy's ability. I prefer Levin's playing, though.

  • @AldenProductions Thanks for clearing that up. I really think that Geddy is a cut above this guy...he can slap bass with his arse cheeks, it really is something to see

  • @irena7777777 you can't be serious. pls do your homework before you start babbling.

  • @MetalTillDeth44 The entire album is amazing, including the bass guitar. Exposure is a masterpiece, in my opinion, of course.

  • Fripp is good at what he does. Yet, he seems to play in the same style, always.

All his efforts have the same aggressiveness. Fripp seems quite angry and this comes out in the song rhythm and dynamics.

  • @TruthAxe Listen to Cathedral of Tears...not so aggressive, really.

  • @mikol58 Sure thing. To be sure, I dig Fripp.

  • @TruthAxe It may be the same style...but it's HIS style! So many other guitarists sound like clones of each other.

  • How long will YouTube allow this to go on?

    Fripp will get you....

  • Huh? dont you know your KC history? Fripp gave up on being an assassin way back when he was in Giles,Giles@ F..on account of those mean-spirited bros. laughing at him for dropping bullets on the floor whilst trying to re-load his pistol! Why d'ya think their in cognito on that cover? LOL!

  • Tony Levin

  • Who's on bass?

  • It isn't Bruford, Collins or Marotta on "Breathless"...it's Narada Michael Walden.

  • @Nyama74 THANK YOU,DID NOT SEE YOURS,BEFORE I POSTED! THX!

  • @ksjoyjespeace No worries...cheers!

  • Jerry Marrotta on drums..a NY legend.

  • I like it, I think i may get this one on vinyl

  • Odd that this track doesn't sound the way I remember it, nonetheless, it does sound good.

The drummer sounds more like Bruford than Collins.

    Anyway, thanks for posting ^5

  • You probably have the original 1979 version. Fripp remixed the album in '85, using alternate takes for some of the tracks, and all subsequent releases have been based off of that.

Personally, I prefer the '79 pressing. But it's Fripp's work, so he gets to call the shots.

  • this is "RED" revisited

  • @59simonh

NO! IT´S A LARK TONGUES IN ASPIC PART II REVISTED

  • ok Gabriel! lets split the pot! its RED TONGUES IN STARLESS ASPIC!!!...ya happy now! LOL!!

  • @59simonh LOL nice

  • wow, this is really good... clearly reusing some Red motifs.

  • @K2nsl3r clever move

  • its kinda like a take off of red

  • always loved this album especially this track total genius
