After the war Vietnam had to stop its power expansion to Thailand and Lao, had to stop harassing our Chinese at the border, China came out as a great winner but Vietnam was a big loser.

Its really sad that China lost face during this battle. with the Chinese 25 division numbering 250,000 troop strong vs. 100,000 Vietnamese border Militia. The Main Vietnamese army was fortified around Hanoi and Haiphong. While also a season Vietnamese force of 150,000 was still in Cambodia.
In a short 3 weeks, China lost an 60,000 troops and around 50,000 more captured. What China learn was to modern its own military now that they know there are not ready.

I don't see Mao had done much good to China. The only good work he had done was able to have the foreign colonialist & imperialist powers driven out of China. He & his team had made serious mistakes that ended in great DAMAGES to the people in the Cultural Revolution & LOSS OF MANY LIVES in the "Great Leap Forward Movement". Perhaps it was due to his lack of good education & economic experience at that time. Hoping that the present leadership could LEARN FROM THEIR PAST bitter experience.

He was the one who had started to revolutionalise the economy of China that is so successful. China today has achieved great progress & prosperity is because of his wonderful idea & good leadership. People living standard has improved a lot. Even Vietnam today has followed his foot steps. Deng was a very Great Man of East Asia in modern history.

countries with the same ideology of "care & share" Communist government. Chinese & Vietnamese are like brothers & sisters in Asia, as they share similar culture & surnames. They should NOT be easily influenced, instigated & made use of by a foreign power like USSR, USA or Japan. It's like 2 crabs fighting will only benefit the fisherman.
