We all feel angry. I live in one of the London suburbs that has not (yet) been affected, partly because the trains have not been allowed to stop here and the buses stop running after 4pm. I get jumpy when I hear someone running down my road or a car passing quickly and I could be very tempted to wade in take the law into my own hands but it's not worth risking life and limb to protect property - either mine, the police's or the rioters. Protecting innocent people is another matter...

Film of the riots from different parts of the country showed mainly black people in some areas, such as Lewisham and mainly white people in others- they were just showing it like it was. There were people of all colours and nationalities involved and we all knwo that. I have never witnessed racism in London but I am white so obviously I don't have the same experience as a black person.

Remember a lot of the rioters are young children, carried away with the thrill of behaving badly and with the bad example of older people who should know better. Why are their parents allowing them to roam the streets in a dangerous situation? The kids can't be totally blamed for irresponsible parenting and lack of good role models. We all feel angry. I live in one of the London suburbs that has not (yet) been affected, partly because the trains have not been allowed to stop here and the buses stop running after 4pm. I get jumpy when I hear someone running down my road or a car passing quickly and I could be very tempted to wade in take the law into my own hands but it's not worth risking life and limb to protect property - either mine, the police's or the rioters. Protecting innocent people is another matter...

Wow. Back in the early 90s, the NY Yankees won their first championship in years. We were on 2nd Ave in front of a bar owned by former Yankees awaiting team members. The crowd was happy and fun and NYPD came and formed some kind of paramilitary groups and chased us away. They drew guns, banged on doors, screamed and raised their fists to our faces. Rubber bullets killed about 27 people in Norther Ireland and they can cause serious injury. If your silly child had gone along to see what was going on and got shot, you'd feel differently!
