What a so wonderful deeply thoughted cadenza, I think it is a shame to delete it completely from the revised version. also so meaningful melodies deleted. This version is a real Noble masterpiece.
That cadenza reminds of Paganini. Incredible. But it is far more concise in the revision. You would hope that a great composer like Sibelius improves upon his previous work and he obviously succeeds. There are many beautiful moments in the original though.
This has been SO interesting..as if Sibelius was getting thoughts organized..and while this is beautiful, I think it is much more "cohesive" now..I hear all the elements that came together so perfectly to make it the magnificent piece that it is now....
If I'm not mistaken, Sibelius was advised to "simplfy" this VC so that more violinists would be able to actually play it...which would help to get it performed and increase it's popularity.
May I ask for 2nd movement?

My opinion, keep everything in the revised edition and add in the second cadenza.

indeed as you know i love this - fire and passion (as it now is) and certainly in this unrevised form it does seem a mishmash of ideas

Sibelius is absolutely amazing. It's hard not to like him.
Listen to the Symphonies and then judge.
