  • you dont hear slow to fast on these very often... they usually stay mellow... very nice...

  • aaauuuummmmma... veerrrryyy ccoooooolllllla...

  • @silvergreeck : is he playing Raag Bageshri??????????????

  • good patential

  • very beautiful!!! takes me to another place

  • i'm going to be totally honest i didn't expect to hear this sound. kudos brother it sounds very good! disregard any advice (okamasphere & J4m3z1 etc...) from those who haven't BEEN THERE. if you know what i mean :)

    good job, this was refreshing.

  • Amazing where did you learn????????

  • You need to work on your picking

  • Speeded up ALOT with a nice beat in the background and this would sound cool ;)

  • WAY TO GO!....and you know what....ive bin playing sitars for years and this is wounderful for this young student to be doing what i can tell by the look on his face what he loves...but to all you nay sayers...I CAN PLAY A SITAR WITH MY ASS AND AS LONG AS ITS FROM THE HART ITS A SONG!....bitches....way to go kid.

  • The typical playing of a beginner with about 2 to 3 years practice. A long way to go but give the guy some respect, it's a lot of work to even get this far.

  • people go look at the song sitar mania. on youtube its da bomb!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • missing some notes man...

    but keep trying

  • Hey I don't think you guys are being fair. I don't know anything about the sitar, but I think this is incredibly relaxing and really nice. Mike you play as much as you want!

  • He is doing quite well i think, considering the fact that he is not Indian, and might not have grown up around it.

  • goddamn, you guys, cut the man some slack. its a white guy playing sitar. he didnt grow up around it, and he probably is transferring from piano to sitar, two completely different things. power to ya, mike santoro

  • With practice he could be good. Meend needs a bit of work, keep those fingers together and that thumb planted. And sit comfortably! That's the sure-fire way to be able to pay full attention to the sounds you're making.

Sitar needs tuning too. I would know since my sitar is an antique and I have to tune it every five minutes...bleh.

    k bye

  • ummm. this raag isnt correct. the taraf strings arent tuned. i think your right hand needs work. it doesnt stay in place and it sounds like your hitting the second string as you play.

  • I have to agree with polsitar - - he is murdering the swaras... I also agree with the posted comment that he should CONTINUE to play, but he's clearly not ready to perform. Give him five years of concentrated study and then maybe. Oh, and watch Parvez or someone... Keep your right-hand thumb where it belongs. It'll help.

  • im getting a sitar tomorrow, a friend of mine who plays tabla's as well as sitar [sikh] agreed to help me learn. i know its going to be totally different from piano and guitar, but thats what i wanted.

  • I believe the sitar is an instrument, like all other instruments, open for the musician's interpretation.

  • I don't mean to be so harsh, but an entire tradition is being misrepresented, and as it is Indian Classical Music is dwindling as a music form, because of people who think that taking a few lessons for a couple years makes them an ustad.

  • Second, his teacher should know better than allowing him to perform like this. He should tie MIKES hair to the rafters before he learns how to play. Sitar IS difficult, that is why he shouldn't be so eager to go out and play as if he knows what he is doing, he doesn't. By no means should he stop playing. But, if he hopes to learn this music and present it he needs to be devoted to it.

  • P.S. mike you look exactly like me. its pretty bizarre

  • why are people so critical about sitar players? its not like he claimed to be the greatest. if his teacher is ok with him putting things on youtube, he doesnt need you to tell the kid he is disgracing him and all that other bullshit. sitar is difficult, give him some credit

  • It's not just sitar players. First of all, you need to be critical of him, his playing is not good enough for a performance. The performance of Indian Classical Music needs to perfect or close to perfect, he is representing God through that music and he is insulting both God and the LONG tradition of Indian Classical music with his playing.

  • So I suppose your going to think it rather insulting when I get a sitar, tune it to the 440 chromatic scale and use it to play heavy metal style music? Sounds cool. Should have that sitar ordered after my next pay check. :-D

  • Actually, I wouldn't give a shit. There's no way it could be misrepresented as indian classical. Nice try, buddy.

  • you are murdering the beautiful swaras!!!

you should be ashamed by this horrible noise not proud!!! stupid charlatan

  • I murdered your mom's Swaras. And she was like OMG!

  • . . . shut UP! God I hate little kids like you who think "your mom" jokes are funny. They suck.

  • You are seriously dellusional. Music and art is all about expressing yourself and finding your balance in this world, achieving a meaningful existence. If he is happy with his medium of expession, he is in a state which you obviously can't comprehend.

  • SERIOUSLY!! i totally agree with you!

  • (on the comment that says that it should not be insulted and it's realllly hard to play!!)

  • OH MY GOD GET SOME LESSONS!!!

  • also, tune your fucking instrument!

  • while its true that musicians need passion and a spiritual connection to the instrument and the music, that passion also needs to be accompanied by the technical skill to present the rag in its proper form. this mike kid isn't doing this at all. Take it from a beginner, I would NEVER even PRETEND to present this in a concert setting. he doesn't even make it clear that he is just a beginner. this is downright awful.

  • Then again, it wasn't him who posted the video...

  • now that you started reading this don't stop, this is so cool, send this to 5 other videos in 134 mins. when ur done press F6 and your crushes name will appaer on the screen in big letters. this is scary cuz this actually works,if you break the chain you will have relationship problems for 5 years x-x-x

  • Right at the end when he hit that sour note (because he IS out of tune) I was waiting for the tomato to hit his face.

    I am disappointed.

  • dude are you trying to show people how bad a sitar can actually be played!!!! if you are, then you're doing a gr8 job. Congrats!

  • your teacher should kill you! for posting this crap!!!!!!

do you know how sacrocent this instrument and music is??????

Nikhil banerjee was not even permitted to play a small recital even after 4 years of rigorious training! You're completely, completely out of tune, and you have a attitude!!!!!!

to the uninitiated you may sound good! hence the appraise by some commenters, but to musicians its pain to the ears.

  • Your unencouraging hate is everything raga is not about. All masters begin as students. Your arrogance blinds you to the truth in all things.

  • yeah true all begin as students u retard!!!! but they dont play in public.

retards like you mock sacred arts like this by displaying them in incorrectly.

  • You have anger issues. Please seek help. What is sacred is the attitude with which one plays- what is in his soul. It is a connection between player and instrument. I applaud his efforts, and encourage him to continue practicing. There is no law which prohibits people from playing a rag unless they have achieved a standard which you find pleasing. Find someone who plays just the way you like, only listen to him, and spare everyone else your infantile rage.

  • sorry.....there IS a law!!!! looks like you dont know much about ICM after all.

just ask any Indian classical musician and they'll tell you!

because when you play, you represent the music, the teacher and the tradition

This kid mike is extremely out of tune!

and oh, i have no anger issues at all, and have many friends! but c'mon stupidity is irritating.

  • You should try yoga- it might relax you. He did his best- he respresented the music and tradition just fine. Your friends must be very compassionate people to put up with you. You definitely should thank them and buy them gifts. Sorry, I am good friends with masters- if you live by law, you lose the spirit. Stop being so angry.

  • he did fine!!!!! ok now its obvious you're one of those dillatants who travel around india with stinky clothes and om around, ur probably a hippie, who's good at nothing. calling this guys playing fine is a testament to that.

im not going to argue with a loser like you! people have standards looks like mine are higher than yours. According to Darwin you're probably at the bottom of the pole of the human race.

  • This is not Carnegie Hall. The venue attests to his skill level. I see you're off your meds again. Please try to relax. If his sitar teacher should "kill" him for this performance, your english teacher should kill you for your grammar. See how silly you are? I'm not a hippie, and I'm successful. However, my mind is not so small that I must hate and lash out at things that do not fit into a narrow view. Please find a positive hobby.

  • while communicating with retards like you, i hardly pay attention to grammer!!!!

oh btw I'm finishing my J.D, so obvioulsy my english is better than most.

you're mind not so small....not to lash out????????? what is it that ur doing then

    you shmuck

  • It's spelled "grammar". I'm not lashing out. I'm trying to show you the flaw in your thinking, and also how low of an emotion anger is. There are ways of criticizing people without telling them their teacher should "kill" them. Grow up. J.D.? Didn't realize I had a genius here..... yawn....

  • tell that to the people who posted it. Mike didn't post it.

  • I find this incredibly inspiring. I've been listening to Indian classical music since the early eighties. I am still unable to distinguish one raga from another but I enjoy all of it. Please give the young man encouragement.

  • i like it

  • Wonderfull!

  • hey for the record dude i liked it :) so stress less :) you shouldnt care what people think :) lol just think how much you have moved them already! messages for months on end :)

  • for saazgirl music by its very nature is a subjective art. Subjective being the key world it means what you think matter not. I know thats a difficult concept for egocentrics. It is an art and in being a form of expression there is never a possibility of redefining the boundaries of art without change and breaking from tradition oh what did the classical painters say of those expressionist fools?

  • is this played like a bass i mean can you play the songs on bass i would love to no if you can if so can you tell me any way or tabs i can learn to sound like this for bass

  • why nobody do not talking about his hands?THAT IS NOT CORECT FOR SITAR PLAYING!

  • yeah his hands are a slight bit off but still very good...

  • Seems like you started a little sitar critic frenzy over here! I just hope they don't come after me :). Well done.

  • To all the people calling him disrespectful, I have one thing to say...

If you were blind, and could only hear the music... would you still say these things? I have a feeling that if he were Indian, there wouldn't be as much nitpicking and negative criticism.

I'm no expert on Indian music, but I love music from all cultures, and from all different genres. If it sounds beautiful, who cares? And this sounds beautiful to me.

Also... I've heard MUCH much worse sitar playing.

  • haha, not too bad dude. raga bageshree is one of my favvvorites! hey, what's your favorite raga, and are you gonna post any new vids anytime soon?

  • ZOMGOSH 100 COMMENTS!!

    -MW

  • thanks i try.

    -MW

  • The argument was so much more entertaining than the actual video

  • ok... after seeing this, then the comments, Mikes right. Just shut up. If you don't think he's good... then w/e. Leave him alone.

And just one response to someone who said that this was "disrespectful." Not really. Disrespectful would be someone with a sitar... than plucking the strings furiously, breaking them. Then picking up the sitar and smashing it on the ground. THAT'S disrespectful.

anywho, mike, AWSOME MAN!! best sitar player I know. Time shall let you improve, my friend.

  • No i dont think you understand... stop commenting...

like just dont comment... instead of commenting... dont thankyou.

    -MW

  • you got fuckin schooled, goddamn i havent seen an owning that harsh in weeks

  • sitarpyar is my hero

  • oh man everyone here (excluding a few choice people) are just full of shit aren't you? DUDES critisize your own fucking lives instead of someone elses. The first couple posts were fricking hilarious.

ah, yeah, love you mike; white boy with a sitar. *thumbsup* sah-weet

  • Just shut up... dont type anymore comebacks or counter arguments ANYONE! just shut up, and stop caring!! STOP JUST FREAKING STOP I CANT FREAKING TAKE IT ANYMORE!!! SHUT UP! DONT TYPE ANYMORE RESPONSES! CEASE FIRE!! HALT!

    -peace

    -santo

  • And BTW, its not even close to Bageshree. You should look online for Bageshree and see what the Arohi and Avarohi are for Bageshree. Study the chalan...And learn proper Sitar playing technique then retape yourself playing and remove this....You have to know that its used as a joke of sorts amongst "real" Sitarist....Just giving you a heads up.

  • jesus fucking CHRIST pretentious dickwads like you are what take the pure enjoyment out of any kind of music. I have only some experience with Indian Classical music but I can safely say now that its community has the most pretentious holier-than-thou assholes I have ever encountered. You alone are worse than ANY western-classical fan (of which I am one) that I've met so far, and they can get pretty bad.

  • When people take this great music and present it incorrectly,we have to call it out. Mike is presenting the instrument and the music incorrectly to the masses. That is extremely wrong anyway you look at it.

  • It's an instrument. You can't disrespect a piece of wood. And Mike certainly isn't disrespecting the tradition. He simply hasn't reached the level of proficiency or know-how you seem to expect out of him, but he eventually would if people like you wouldn't kill his enthusiasm.

  • Mike actually is disrespecting the instrument and the tradition. Our tradition requires years of practice, so that when you do present it, its majestic and enobling...Mike is playing out of ego, not out of any knowledge of technique or theory..He knows this as well as all of us who REALLY do play Sitar.

  • Everyone starts as a beginner; even you, GASP! Posting his amateur performances here aren't disrespectful. Disrespectful would be him releasing a recording and calling it professional. Maybe then your insults would have credibility. Dickhole.

  • Sorry that you feel this way, but he is disrespecting the music. If you saw someone claiming to play flight of the bumblebee on violin , and was obviously just scratching away, you'd probably call him/her out on it also.

  • A couple of nights ago my 4 year old son attempted to play "Twinkle, Twinkle, Little Star" on his toy piano. I smiled and praised him for a job well done. Maybe I handled that all wrong though. Following your example, I see now that I should have told him he was a faker, an insult to music, a disgrace to the human race and broken his hands so he can never play again. Am I grasping the spirit of your philosophy?

(Good Lord! Do humanity a favor and jump in front of a fast moving bus)

  • (Practice wwhat you preach.)

  • This video makes it obvious that you are showing off to people who know nothing about the Sitar. That is extremely disrespectful to Indian Classical Music. Find a teacher and learn how to play correctly. Quit being a faker.

  • It is your best guess as to what alap jor jhalla is.

First and for most, your technique for playing is not correct. Second, you need to have an understanding of the raga your playing-.ie-"Chalan"."That","Pakar". "Arohi/Avarohi"...Third-An alap must include a proper "Asthai,Antara, and Sanchari"-Jor must unfold the previous but with a pulse-Jhalla must include "Lari" as well as specific bol patterns ending with a mohra.

  • Instead of being insulted, take this as a learning step. In your video, you strum slowly, then you speed up a little, and then go faster. This is not "Alap, Jor, Jhalla"

  • "I had a clearly defined alap, JOR and Jhala... all three elements in raga..."

OK, so I have to go ahead and point out to you why I said you are "Faking" it.

  • its almost raga Bagashree... and yes i do take lessons from a teacher

    -MW

  • do you take lessons from a teacher?

  • sorry what Rag is this?

  • MIKE BEAST MAN!!! c u in history

  • not bad

need more practice on your meends tho, i know they're tough

  • ok sorry if i didnt really make much sense starting a post with "AND" i had a previous comment that basicially said that i couldn't believe that you thought that i was "FAKING" it. I had a clearly defined alap, JOR and Jhala... all three elements in raga... so thats the gist of it.

  • so i must be doing something right and please i'd love to watch your sitar video "Sitarpyar" and maybe we can critique each others videos and stuff oh wait. u dont have any sitar videos on you tube.never mind..

    sincerely MW...

  • I wasn't trying to hurt your feelings, I was just pointing out the obvious. There is no way you could have won any competitions unless they were general talent show judged by people who know nothing of Sitar playing. Thats because you are not playing correctly.

  • AND yes I AM doing what "Sounds" like sitar playing, because I AM playing the sitar. I am playing What "SOUNDS" like sitar because i listen to many artists that "sound" like they're playing sitar as well. artist like pandit Nikhil banerjee and ravi shankar and the like. and normally im a pretty humble person... but I compete in Competions and win em.

  • The problem with your logic is that you have to have proper technique to attian those "sounds". Nikhil-Da and Ravi-ji "Sound " like they're playing because they execute proper technique. You do not have proper technique, thus you are not producing Raga.

  • THe beauty of Sitar is that there is a proper technique that allows you to bring out the "rasa" of the Sitar. Without that technique, the Sitar is nothing more than a musical typewriter.

  • The truth of the matter is that this person is faking it. He is not employing correct technique for the Sitar. He is doing what he thinks "sounds" like sitar playing. Westerners would not be able to distinguish this, but those of us who have studied Sitar and try to propegate correct playing can hear it instantly.

  • ...I am appalled that one would have the nerve to post such a pompous comment. I am the person playing the sitar in the video, and I can assure you that I am not "faking it." The raga performed CLEARLY has three defined movements that are essential in Indian Music... I have a slow alap section, followed by a faster JOR section, and I conclude with an even faster JHALA section. PLEASE correct me if im wrong but last I checked this was traditional ALAP format.

    -MW

    -MW

  • You know 3 terms of Raga, but you don't execute them correctly. You don't know any ornaments, you don't use correct baj, you are not following the rules applied to the Raga Bageshree. Plain and simple, you are faking it. Your stroke pattern (baj) is almost insulting, and you don't even keep your thumb down....Bottom line-You're faking it.

  • THe worst aspect is that you don't know meend, and you do a western style "vibrato" on notes which kills the Raga. If you really studied and played Sitar, then I wouldn't be schooling you right now. I know you don't understand or mean to, but you are actually disrespecting the Sitar. Again, if you really played-you'd kow why.

  • Heh, during my second sitar lesson I did a western style vibrato at the end of an excercise and my teacher gave me a stern look. He then said, " I know when you're at home you will play around with the sitar more than just practicing your excercises but please, do not add vibrato onto notes. Otherwise you will sound like every other American pretending to play the sitar" I got a laugh out of it and I've already broke myself of the habbit in the last week.

  • Yeah, the meends are a little sloppy, but he always ends up in tune.

  • these comments are yet more proof to the world that sitar players need to pull the instrument out of their backsides and just enjoy music..

  • sweet sounds, goes right to the center of my brain, and starts spinning, and flashing, and making me feel at peace

  • that was kickass

  • Nice, keep playing. Try to avoid negative people like those posting constantly here. They remind me of that kid in Good Will Hunting. The one that gets the comment, "how you like those apples"! I see these all the time.

  • Excellent attempt presenting difficult bageshree raga. Keep up the practice and good luck !!

  • I love the sound of the sitar, but it looks pretty intimidating compared to what i usually play (guitar and bass) Any idea how long it would take to pick up the basics of sitar playing?

  • the basics of sitar are relatively simple... the basics of Raga are intensley complex, i'd suggest finding a sitar and a teacher (duh, sorry) but if u cant find a teacher, there are a couple good videos and books that can help u pick up the basics of Raga.

    -Mike santoro

  • To anyone that is too ignorant to realize this. Music is one of those special things that society doesn't make rules for, that's what makes it the magical thing that it is! everyone is free to like what type it is, whether it's Indian classical music or a mere expression of the inner soul using an instrument(in this case a sitar). just chill out

  • i really enjoyed the video! i guess some people don't realize that it takes a lifetime to even near the type of playing we see from the masters. but all the while when those people are criticizing, us musicians continue to improve our craft and eventually become great players in our own right. so take the best from the criticism, but keep on playing!!

  • bravo a l'artiste mike santoro..je me suis regalé et detendu..

  • Well i like your playing, the Sitar is a wonderful and relaxing instrument and it was not played badly or was abused so why are you looking for a fight saazgirl, Enjoy the Music.

    Karmapa Chenno!

  • Dear Prof, Since you have just now joined the dialogue and are not privy of the private conversation between santo and me you are remiss. A pugilist I am not, save for a valiant cause. I refer you to my last post:however some simply want me to praise what I find to be lackluster. I cannot.

  • Dear SitarSanto, Appeals to bravado, shame, peer pressure and popularity mean nothing to me. I have already listed the sitarists you should emulate. Those whom I mentioned I have met, so I play sitar. Nasty? Not I. I have maintained the fact that your attempt is admirable but you need further instruction, however some simply want me to praise what I find to be lackluster. I cannot. Pax et Benedicamus Domino

  • well I understand your methods of evaluation... and your entitled to your opinion saazgiri, but in all seriousness i live in newjersey and im a teenager, so master sitar gurus aren't readily available round these parts.lol. hold on my post is cut off so ill continue in the next…

  • anyways I was hoping for some insight on to further listening, you know, which artist performs ure favorite meend... and well I listen to the classics, all the big "hits" if you will, cats like ravi shankar and Pandit NIkhil banerjee mostly. but if u were to recomend a specific "rising star" in the world of sitar or a really awesome recording of a raga that had great meend, what would it be and where could i find it? thanks

    shantih, Aum.

    (hope thats right syntax)

    -sitar Santo

  • HEY ALL... my name is Mike santoro, i am A sitar player... the one featured in this video... thank you all for watching and commenting... by expressing my self through the "universal Language" i didnt want to foment any arguments... i hoped people could enjoy my video and post their thoughts about my performance.

  • 1. I am not indian. when "mike is talking now" mike is not talking now. mike can talk by himself.

    2. Saazgiri. i realize that this might not be a top caliber performance, but then again. one should no go around saying that its not internet worthy.

(again not trying to incite argument))do u play sitar. just out of curiosity? and if u think my meend is terrible. then who do u suggest i listen to to try to emulate a quality meend.

  • 3. at first i was in coalition with imdad. but well then i stopped after things turned nasty. I just didnt think imdad and saazgiri would take things this far, i mean comon guys this is like eight grade.

    again thankyou for watching!

    Peace and Godbless

    -SANTO

  • Mike-

If you love the Sitar-PLEASE GET PROPER INSTRUCTION. To play this instrument incorrectly is disrespectful. You have the right direction, but you know as well as those of us who have played for years that you're winging it on this video. You will be more satisfied if you learn correctly.

  • If you insist I use rationality, then I can restate the above comments with:

    all people make mistakes,

    all sitar masters are people,

therefore all sitar masters make mistakes.

  • Dearest Imdad,

It is understood that all mortals make mistakes and in virtue of this fact, perfection is elusive. Again, this forum is an invitation to entertainment and assessment. I would prefer entertainment but when taraf strings are out of tune and the like, it draws commentary. That is what I have done and I believe it is warranted.

  • saazgirl i watched this video today and as always i decided to have a look back and review comments. To be honest i got 2 simple comments to make, 1 you dont make yourself look intelligent by using big words or by trying to formulate overexerted overly expressive phrases which merely depict a egocentric and childish mentality to be expected of an 8 year old with a high IQ but not of someone older.

  • Dear Saazgiri,

I would like to assure you that I am not looking for praise being that I am not Mike. I can't speak for others when I say this, because I don't know their aspirations. My second point would be that My last set of posts were mearly yes/no questions, If you could point out an instance in which I allow my emotions to bypass my logic I'll gladly ammend it.

  • Is it safe to say the world is not solid numbers? 1

Is there evidence that cannot be measured in numbers and therefore disprove that the world is solid numbers? 1

What is this evidence? Love, creativity, emotion, thought and skill.

Why can’t we measure them in numbers? There are none describing said evidences.

Not all the world is numbers and not everything is based on numbers.

Not all the world is exact, except it is exactly all the world.

  • Dearest Imdad, Mike, Oresti, we, binary numbers, pseudo-science, false philosophy,

If you are looking for praise rest assured that you will get it from your family and your sycophantic friends but you will not get it from me. I urge you to reread my earlier posts and restrain your emotions and try to counter with a sense of rationality. It is that gift of rationality that separates us from the irrational animal, a gift which enables you to play a sitar.

  • Hmmm, and so I browse my colletion of youTube videos and see that this simple playing of the Sitar at a little highschool concert in a cafeteria has caused a bit more contreversy than merited.

Don't make me remove this clip!

    -Oresti

(Actually, this is pretty fucking hilarious... continue with the banter)

  • Is Saazgiri73 really gay? 0

My response is fashioned like so.

    Does Mike play sitar? 1

Does Mike enjoy playing sitar? 1

    Does Mike enjoy music? 1

Does Mike enjoy sitar music? 1

  • Dearest Imdad, Mike, Oreste—presumably ‘we’

I am deeply pained that I am an ass and I missed the most salient point of your post—that you did not upload the video. Shame on me—that simple point negates all other points—it nullifies everything that came before it thus the point of who uploaded the video becomes a ‘red herring’. I already told you that you were in dire need of an introductory course in Aristotelian logic—you have proved it once again.

  • I've realized something. Saazgiri is a total moron. I can't believe it took me this long. He only speaks nonsense. look at that... he just blabbers on about nothing. he uses intelligent subject matter (with no relevence of his argument) to back himself up. My advice: don't ever join debate team idiot.

  • Dearest Imdad-Mike, I must say that you still have not grasped the import of an ad hominem argument. You uploaded a self-styled performance to a public domain and you are so fragile that you cannot take criticism. Why did you upload it, to simply be praised?

  • If so, you are quite narcissistic. In case you do not know, your performance is open to evaluation not blind adulation. If you lack the mettle to withstand such meager criticism I suggest that you cease your pompous campaign of grandstanding and discover humility.

  • hey idiot. did you ever take time to consider that maybe Mike isn't the one who uploaded this? oh wait that would surpass your genius. If you ever took the time to check your facts, a person named Oreste uploaded this video. If you think Mike and Oreste are spelled the same, you're stupider than we thought you were. also, you probably shouldn't make assumptions about Mike and narcissism, being that when you assume, you make an ass out of u and me.

in this case it's more you.

  • Very good! Gosh I wish I had some talent. I have a tabla set but it's not tuned properly. What's with the arduing? This music is straight from God. Is it perfect? He may not be Ravi Shankar or Vilayat Khan but this guy has some serious talent and has tapped into something deep! It inspires me to continue my search for inner peace and truth. No fighting please. It's just a waste of time. You're God, he's God.. we're all together..

  • amen to that brotha

    -Santoro

    (the real one)

    p.s. im not God...

  • and i was talking to zab... not saaz... lololololololool

    -MW

  • wow! dude that was awesome playing. Its not easy to play this isntrument...

    good job..

  • ~oh and by the way this is mike typing right now.

just because my mother was 3/4 indian and that is my recessive phenotype, doesn't mean you can make fun of me. That makes me a little less than half indian. Just because my skin is light, and not dark indian, doesn't mean that you can't excommunicate me from my own race. you are an insult to your own and by the way MY race.

  • 1 : appealing to feelings or prejudices rather than intellect

2 : marked by an attack on an opponent's character rather than by an answer to the contentions made

  • oh and saazgiri you were wrong. Although music is only one part of the arts, it is not useless without the others. sounds like someone who doesn't excel in music feels left out that they don't understand it, and because of this, that person must go around picking fights with those who do understand it and those who enjoy living their life. I mean look at you man! you go onto youtube accounts and critisize... that is the most interesting life ever...

  • Hey guys check out this film...I'm not going to name any names of the characters but *hrm* one of them sucks a lot...

  • Dear Saazgiri73, does your paragnathous know no boundries? Are you undergoing azzazimayen anoopsia? has your brain been deputed by lissophlagellata? I mean you hysterotely critisize this man you don't cognize with? You must belong to the largest lophiostomataceae in the world. I conclude with YOU ARE AN IGNORAMUS.

  • Pronunciation: (')ad-'hä-m&-"nem, -n&m

    Function: adjective

Etymology: New Latin, literally, to the person

  • Imdad,

I don't know where to begin other than to say you need to take an introductory course in Aristotelian logic and learn the definition of an ad hominem argument. As far as the universal language of music-that is a specious deceit that has deceived you as it has deceived many more.

  • Music is but one part of the quadrivium-music is empty if it is not related to the other arts-for the other arts build that holism which informs the mind as well as the soul and provides the ability to communicate the sublime. It is both/and not either/or.

  • for those of you who assumed that this was in fact a real mentor, you were wrong. I was merely making fun of saazgayboy73 for critisizing perfectly acceptable sitar which he doesn't know, may have just been practice which was videotaped by annoying parents, or maybe it was a performance, but saazgayboy here finds the need for unneccesary critisizm. what a shame.

  • at this point I would like to say that this is great sitar. I posted my original comment to contradict saazgiri73 because he sucks major monkey nuts, did you even notice who I put down as the mentor I reccommended? patel giri 'durkadurka shankar ragginash

  • Just sounds like some people don't like white people learning their music. I can agree to some extent, I don't like eminem.

  • ImdadkananiG, I would never accept a person as foolish as you as my mentor.

  • Hey ZAB666,

What did I post that waranted an expletive? By the way--music is not a universal language. It is an art at the service of something else--what that is--well, figure it out.

  • hey saazgiri73 if you don't get it by now, it's that we all think your a fag and you should go jump off the earth...

  • hey incase you didn't notice, you suck. your name alone warrents expletives. infact your name should be an expletive to describe aweful music. I agree with music being a universal language, so when I sing saazgiri73, I want everyone to know that I'm cursing in the universal language.

  • I figured it out ... u r 33 years old ... and you have nothing better to do then post racist ignorant comments on an musician.

perhaps he is not ravi shankar, but who cares?

If u cant accept music as what it is, then ur just a sad old person...
