I am not an American, and glad of it. But can someone explain to me why USA has a base in Cuba? Why do the Cubans allow this? Would be interesting to find out.
I was aboard the DDE847 Robert L Wilson during that time.I guess it could have turned into a real mess if they hadn't backed down. God bless all the men and women who were involved in this blockade.
I was aboard DE-152 in the photo. I was a "high ranking" LTJG and the engineer officer of USS Peterson (DE-152) during the Cuban missile crisis. What an exciting time. Spent 25 years in the navy mostly on destroyers, but was never so scared as I was during the "crisis". We almost got nuked.
we MUST ALWAYS REPEAT MUST ALWAYS respect our military as they are ALMIGHTY GOD'S instrument in guaranteeing our continued freedom as well as being the global force for GOOD!
As I reflect upon American crimes against humanity today, in places like Gitmo & Abu Ghraib prison, it is no surprise that America is forever destined to carry the sign of Cain for the Hiroshima & Nagasaki bombings!
The longest America has gone without bombing someone is 2 years; America simply used the Nuremberg show-trials to hide itself in a haze of moral superlatives!
I was in Gitmo during this time frame. And I remember mostly the Semi-tractor trailer (Cattle Hauler) picking us up at the fleet landing so that we could go to the EM Club and get drunk and fight and puke and the long lines of shore patrol on either side of the walkway to ensure that we got back on the Semi to the fleet landing and back to our ship safely. I love this video! I was there as a dependent in 65-66. My father would have loved it as well. Thank you so much for posting!

I was on "the rock" in February 1964 and it was hilarious when Castro cut off the water to the naval base.
This video brings back some unpleasant memories of that base. The only thing good about my time there was 2 hurricanes, one was a monster..... FLORA
and a much smaller one.
I see there is still much unhappiness at that place.
God bless Rumsfeld!
