Depends on which part you don't understand. If it goes for the ending, the story apparently tries to explain what happen if one splits the transformed humanoid into parts. Because that woman lost fer foot in her magical disguise, her turning back into human being was incomplete. And as a result, he could not speak like a human, but was still making sounds like a cat.
