I have to clear up this notion that JFK would have been a Conservative had he been alive today. The truth is probably not. Yeah, he cut taxes, but it was because he thought 90% was too high! He thought 65% was a reasonable amount. If cutting taxes is the answer to a better economy, then why didn't he cut it all the way down to zero or even more? He could have! He was well liked. But he decided not too. If you LISTEN to his speech, he said TOO LOW A TAX CUT CAN RESULT IN INFLATION!
@ZeckRichards We are taxed to death....Warren Buffet has money to hire loads of tax corporations to get him out of paying his fair share...he only pays capital gains...pays himself out of a trust so he doesn't pay taxex like rich people can.....flat tax would make everything fair, 0-30,000 no taxes, 30-50,000 the first 30,000 free from taxes, then taxed on the difference....50-70,000 the first 30,000 free of taxes then taxed on the difference. No loopholes, no deductions, fair to everyone.
@klg1956 We're not taxed to death. Taxes are lower than what they were decades ago. Even lower than Reagan and Bush. 22 million jobs were created in Clinton's second term and 20 million in the private sector, and taxes when he was president I believe were at 60% and if you were rich it was a little higher. Our government now is spending about 4 trillion dollars a year. We have an income of about 10 trillion dollars total. All we'd is pay a 40% tax rate and close tax loop holes.
@ZeckRichards If you don't pay taxes, you don't get a refund! Politicians say they need a great pension because they do not get Social security...liars! They apply for 1/2 of their spouses social security benefits. They are all liars and thieves and can't even account for the money they have blown, gone into thin air, who received it? Where did the Solyndra 1/2 billion go? another 1/2 billion to Al Gore and his car. It's fraud, all of it and we're stuck paying their ponzi schemes!
@klg1956 I understand your concern but the money went to the scientists, the manufacturers the materials they need and things like that. In order to create high quality scientific products, it usually requires a lot of money. The reason why Solyndra went bankrupt is because Chinese solar panels were cheaper so nobody bought American. That's becoming the problem with most of our products today. That's why everything is practically made in China. They're cheap.
@ZeckRichards Look up Molton Metals (Gore/Strong) then Chicago Climate Exchange (North America's cap and trade co)--owners Al Gore/Maurice Strong, then look up the U.N. oil for food scam (Maurice Strong), look up Generation Investment Management (Gore, Strong, Europe's cap and trade co.)..cap and trade (man made global warming) is a ponzi scheme to make Gore, Strong, Goldman, Soros, Obama more wealthy and will make us a 3rd world country.
@klg1956 That's a lot to look up, but I will say this: Global warming is not a ponzi scheme. Every scientific organization (not just American) that has studied it says it's real. The people that deny it are non scientists. Since the topic is science, i think it only makes sense to believe the scientists. Sure, they can make mistakes, but it's not like they studied this yesterday, they've been studying it for years and I don't think every scientist in the world is going to lie just for Al Gore.
@klg1956 I have to clear up this notion that JFK would have been a Conservative had he been alive today. The truth is probably not. Yeah, he cut taxes, but it was because he thought 90% was too high and 65% was a reasonable amount. If you listened to the speech, he said too large a tax cut could result in inflation. He did say though that to little a tax cut is a greater danger. But overall, he believed in a balance and right now it's imbalanced. Taxes are unreasonably low.
Wow, it is amazing how far left the Democratic party has gone. Here is the Iconic Figure Head for the Democratic Party giving this speech that if given today would have him tossed from his own party.
JFK if he were alive today would be no Democrat. In fact, if I were to guess, if he wouldn't have been tragically assassinated he very well would have been a Libertarian or even a Conservative. Goldwater and Reagan Conservatism came after his death.
Wow, I had no idea that JFK was such a smart dude on economic matters....he sounds like a Libertarian....and he seems to have been influenced by the Austrian school!
@AmanJohnX yeah, it definitely looks like it. He would have been the closest thing to a libertarian president we could have had. Big businessmen couldn't let that happen, hence his assassination. I like to look at what he had planned and see how he would have been on peoples hit list. did you know he was going to put an end to the federal reserve?
WTF does this ass-clown have anything at all to do with liberty? He was the administrative leader of the largest and most violent and destructive organization the world had ever seen.
Government (no matter how small) = taxation = coercion = violence = chaos and destruction.
@theredraven I know cease to argue with you because you have obviously no clue about political philosophy and it would be a waste of time. Private property + non-aggression principle (anarcho-capitalism, laissez-faire, call it whatever you want) is what I believe to be a just system. Government puts a gun to my head every time I resist to pay up.
@rumco You know, I think you're one of these university student types who wraps themself up in ideology while being detached from the real world, a bit like most Marxists.
If you lock your doors, arm yourself with a gun and such now, in a governed society, just imagine how bad it will be with no governing authority. You'll never leave home.
@asalade No at all. But lots of people would be like that.
Didn't John Locke believe the market society works best with a political society to oversee us? Where the market exchanges between people can be protected etc?
@asalade I am bound not by law, since laws can be manipulated, not by fellow man, for they can be paid off, or simply not pay attention. I am limited by what my conscience allows. Many rapists, and murders go free, many are never even known to the police, but no one can escape their conscience. A man or woman raised in a society where bad things are called bad will naturally develop a conscience, where others raised and being told anything goes will not. Ask a few criminals if they have one.
@theredraven You're just recklessly whacking at an ignorant strawman of anarchism. It is not as if all of the legitimate functions that government currently provides (defense, adjudication, property protection, etc.) would cease to exist in a free society. If human beings desire a certain product or service, they will labor to provide that service for themselves and for one another.
It is you who are detached from the real world if you believe institutionalizing monopolies is the ticket.
@VTAcraft The real world has had governments run hand in hand with markets for thousands of years. Long may it continue since trying to get rid of either is impossible.
@theredraven Non sequitur. The real world has also had corruption and rape for thousands of years. To say that these are natural and that to get rid of them would be impossible is one thing—and that's an argument from apathy that I could at least respect. But "long may they continue"? You have to be kidding me.
He's a good speaker and it sounds like he was on the right track with balancing/cutting budgets and thereby reducing taxes. But his talk of 'demand' and 'spending' clearly shows him to be a Keynesian at heart.
This video is just Keynesian regurgitation. Kennedy tried, but failed to fully understand economics; he failed where the Keynesians did--Capital theory.
No answer to recession? Abolish legal tender laws.
Aren't the Kennedys an family of Irish roots - guess this is the a call of history to this country as a "master plan" to return to prosperty once again. Never imagined that true classical liberal econonmic theory could be introduced in that manner - as a plan.
He is talking about profits like they are not evil? What kind of a lunatic is he? Right now he would never fit in with the current Democrat party, or even most of the Republicans.
At first I expected pure Keynesian rhetoric. He was semi-Paul, and of course he dared to print $5 bills around the back of the Fed. He may have been our last great President. No wonder "they" killed him.
@asalade Some DO deliver: Coolidge, Reagan, Bush W. Even some of JFK's vision got passed, and it helped before LBJ hijacked it with his Great Society. At the state level, Christie of NJ is doing it. Texas does it. It can be accomplished.
@emperorkang I'm only referring to his take on limited spending and taxes being the best path to prosperity. Clearly, he is miles from the main stream liberal agenda in America today. Name calling aside, you can't deny that.
@sdfkjllshadflhadfshl I wasn't referring to you as a retarded lunatic, I was saying the entire Tea Party was...or at least most of them. you do realize that they only care about keeping the tax cuts for the rich, dont you? also, do you not understand that people that show up to the tea party "rallies" don't even earn enough to pay taxes, right?
@emperorkang: Actually it's been shown time and time again that Tea Party members are both better educated and higher earners, hence their concern over out of control federal spending, government waste, corruption and the coming tax tsunami. @espada9 even if they are higher earners, it is ridiculous that the 1% super rich get the least taxed. if they did get taxed more, it would NOT hurt them much and it would help the country greatly. Obama needs to let the damn thing expire. the rich would barely notice the tax increase.
Progressive taxes are nothing more than a despicable class warfare scheme that has no place in this nation. Now if you were talking a mix of a flat tax and consumption taxes, we would be getting somewhere.
As it stands, progressive taxation is immoral, unethical and unconstitutional. Progressive taxes are used as a political tool, any time you have a political tool, it gets abused for populist & collectivist agendas.
So to do what with that tax money? To corrupt the markets a bit further into uneconomical actions - so a little more Keynes?
You can't plan markets in they way you plan a business, and in our day we face even global markets rather then local to nation of the past. Planning the actions of 6.5 billion folks and that for a longer term of time yet? Good luck, but rather quit the spending bench.
@emperorkang: The top 1% of taxpayers (AGI over $364,657) earned approximately 21.2% of the nation's income (as defined by AGI), yet paid 39.4% of all federal income taxes. That means the top 1% of tax returns paid about the same amount of federal individual income taxes as the bottom 95% of tax returns.
@espada9 If the top 1% is earning 20%, but paying 40% of income taxes, they're paying at double the rate of the average taxpayer, I don't see how you get the same amount out of that.
@espada9 The tea party is a gang of radical republicans blaming others for our problems. They blame illegal immigrants and high taxes but the truth is it what the banks fault. The housing crisis was the cause and the fact that weve done nothing to keep jobs in America. TEA party members are isolationist which is not the way to go. that caused ww2 and ofr hitler to rise, They are also racist trying to gain support by getting recommendations from racists like that one sheriff from arizona.
