The Late founder of Kyokushin Karate Kai Kan , Grandmaster Mas Oyama did use clinches , grabbing of uniforms and sleeves , leg sweeps , throws and tripping on his earlier students. But later generations opted for body blows.
Master Ashihara Sensei and Enshin Ryu Founder ( Both Oyama's Students ) are the only ones employing these tactics. Kyokushin now allows head punches which i find dangerous.
@MDIS Kyokushin does NOT allow head punches, where the fuck did you learn that...You may be referring to shotokan or another misguided leak of Kyokushin. ^_^.
@Buczkman If you think it's so easy why don't you go fight either one of them, then you can slam them with a combo straight out from your xbox controller!
Ashihara is based on kyokushin, it's just newer... And some of the ideas behind it has changed. It's proven more effective than the older system, but let's face it, there are more kyokushin masters out there. Kyokushin used to be the system used by he japaneese police, but it has been replaced with ashihara. In many turnaments, both kyokushin fighters and ashiahra fighters participate at the same time. Systems are VERY similar.
really I don't like kyokushin style. For real fighting i prefer full contact or better a mma solution. As I'm searching for a good shape of movement, I prefer shotokan.
I saw a guy break a cheek bone with a left jab using regular martial art gloves. It wasn't just a fracture, it was a total break. People do not realize that with the power that it takes break a one inch pine board, you can break an eye socket or cheek bone. So you are correct when you say that bare knuckle face punches are to severe.
That is why I always laugh when I hear commentators talk about hockey fights like a broken cheek bone means tremendous punching power because it is totally false.
that why you dont hit it in a match, there is no point in killing each other. You can save those bare knuckle head punches for self defense on the street.
Very messy style. No head strikes means thier guards are always low and they drop them to guard thier chest. In real life if they are attacked, they are not being trained to protect thier faces? Messy brawly stuff. Shotokan rules!
This style is very messy and lacks nice form. In Shotokan in Australia, we fight and grade full contact with gloves. In all our sparring, I have never seen messy brawly type fighting such as this. Both fighters fought hard and it was probably a very good cardio workout for them.
Because it is full contact within its rules if you want a gloved version with head punching try Royamas Kyokushinkan,Shidokan Daido juku and Zendokai .
I have been training for well over 10 years and yeah, they are novices but being a competion there should have been some control from the judge. By points, they both landed like a million, so to speak. I will say this they both have some good cardio and a huge heart to just pound on each other.
2 b honest Full contact Karate isnt really all that great wiv out punches 2 the head it makes it un realistic I reckon if ITF was Full contact itd b the real deal in stand up Martial ARts
if you can hit a body so hard that you can break a rib , i bet that if you hit a nose it's instant win for you . it takes 1 punch to end a street fight
Yea its painful but they get things broken a lot in pro fights and keep going, in UFC there is always a couple nose breaks but that doesnt stop them... But in a novice fight for sure
Honestly, whenever you have competition in any way, you have to sacrifice realism for safety. Different rules sacrifice different aspects of real fighting. In this case, hand strikes to the face needs to be sacrificed in order to have bare knuckle fighting. Muay Thai, for example, sacrifices bare knuckle fighting in order to have punches to the face. Either way, you lose realism. For that reason, I think it's important to explore different disciplines. Even MMA is not all that realistic.
I have trained in both styles an fought in a few comps both ashihara and kyokushin are FULL CONTACT but this was a kyokushin rules .. no grabbing allowed which limit the effectiveness of ashihara as for the overall skill level these guys were Novices with big hearts OSU
The guys took a good beating. I train Ashihara myself, but I think that Kyokushin should have won that fight. But personally I think there was too much boxing. Some more kicks and knees to the ribs and chest would have been better.
I agree, Kyokushin-kai/shorter man won, and I have taken Ashihara, Enshin, Kyokushin-Kai, Musokai, TKD, Wado, KB, clearly he won this fight, hands down (or up as the case may be). Two knockdowns, chased him out of the ring several times, better kime, far better!
I think Ashihara lost. Here is why: They claim that their Sabaki skill are superior. But this guy did not fight any different than the kyokushin fighter. So what is Sabaki if you can't use it in a real fight. Enshin says the same thing. They just change the rules in their tournaments to make themselves look good. Kyokushin won here.
I ve a question. why they dont punch into the face but kicks seemed to be allowed.thx

@BacheKhala Just the rules for this particular style / host. Essentially it's a safety thing

Legacy system from kyukushinkai. Bareknuckles open up people's faces really fast, so it affects training if sparring is done on a daily basis.

not bad for low grades but sloppy in my opinion anyway.

i dont know about ashihara karate and wish not to be disrespectful , but kyokushin bears in mind the 100 kumite when traing .
Does ashihara have some kind of background ideas like that ? just asking and wondering what the philosophy is behind ashihara .

Only reason it doesn't have head punching is because its bare knuckles, bare knuckle punching will cause too much cuts to the head.
Realistically speaking its better to go for body shots rather then head shots since its a larger target and has weak spots like ribs and abs.

Not in a Kyokushin Tournament it isn't

@budoshopcomau More accurately, not in a post-1980s tournament held by one of the Big Three. There are exceptions among the smaller orgs.

Have you tried 4oz gloves before? They're almost like wearing nothing compared to the 16oz boxers/muay thai fighters use.

If U think that our style isn't great because we don't punch to the face look at my videos. Then talk about it again.
No gloves is as realistic as it gets, but it involves to much blood in the face so we prefer OKs with high kicks over blood baths.
kyokushinheart 3 years ago
yea but its not real fighting though, ppl wanna know how to defend themselves and no one in a real fight is gonna be body punching.

oh, punch you in the gut/lower/ribs, kidney, or liver, in a real fight, and you can become a believer.
