  • My dear cousin Greg Semu is the photographer featured in this video! Rosanna Raymond and the Pacific sisters OMG how young we were all back then! Alofas <3 I think this vid is directed by Rosanna's husband Kerry Brown.

  • Has anyone got the album version of this perchance?

  • i love the sentiment and meaning in this song about forgiveness and love

  • Sounds better live :)

  • love love this song went to see Tim at the gluepot in auckland for the release of befor and after lucky enough to go back stage and meet the wonderful man ohhhhhh the perks of working ain the industry all those years ago x

  • I really like this song. Out of all the covers on "She will have her way", it was the only one that stuck to the spirit of the original. That and Imbruglia's "Pineapple Head" cover. The other artists butchered such Finn classics sadly.

  • This song stands out on the "Other Enz - Split Enz and Beyond" 2-CD set, and I think I've played it 20 times in the past two days. Beautiful song, voice, and delivery. It's a keeper for life.

  • Yep, top song from my travels - just as good now as it ever was, what do you reckon MJ ?xx

  • luv this song

  • Classic Kiwi tune.

  • I have been convinced for a while that this is Tim Finn reflecting back on his relationship with the stunning Greta Scacchi, she broke his heart I believe...I mean they where together a long time. However it could be also about his differ cult relationship with is brother....or both. Anyway this was co written with is friend the amazing Richard Thompson.

  • @zombiedawn50 Hi, his self-titled album (with the singles "How'm I gonna sleep" and "Not Even Close") was the one that directly approached the ending of his relationship with Greta. She had left him for Vincent D'onofrio during the filming of a movie they were in together. I think this might have come after his time in New York, and the death of some friends.

  • @Treehouseman I did not know she did that to him - what a TNUC - he is far better than that crap behaviour... and hasn't her career boomed... NOT

  • @zombiedawn50 Great tune !! The Harbour Lights Motel (at the beginning of the vid is now a block of apartments that's had a minor facelift) I always appreciated it's retro chic as did a lot of bands, as the owner was regularly paid a sum of money so that bands could shoot videos there. I've been delivering mail in Parnell for years (sadly ; ) heh heh) I was at a friend's 21st birthday party at a pub in London about 20 odd years ago, unbenknownst to me Greta Scacchi was there also in another

  • @zombiedawn50 part of the pub. If I'd o known, I probably woulda stalked her. No wonder Tim was devastated...she was and still is GORGEOUS !!

  • @zombiedawn50 I agree. Sorry dude but "differ cult"? difficult ..... Great song borne out of the misery.

  • @zombiedawn50 zombie I would say 100% you are right on both counts, but without asking Tim directly, I don't see this as a painful song, just my interpretation of it, it is always good to hear musicians write a song without being bitter and hateful, hence why this is such a wonderful track

  • Ironic - Greta breaks heart, goes to Criminal Intent star, Vince dumps her, Tim didn't take Greta back - the one who breaks your heart ends up with a broken heart - that is why this song is indirectly about revenge that is not bitter, but simply a cycle of karma

  • tempted by the promise of a differant life theres a constant battle running through my head im to open to persuasion i still believe god damn these songs..........

  • My all-time favorite Tim Finn song! Thanks for posting! :)

  • still in mono since its been uploaded in 2008. nice to hear it remastered . come on plzzzz cant u at least be persuaded into remastering mr treeman. plz????5 * rated all the same.

  • @leanda27 Hmm, I'll have to find the old VHS this came from. I think it was recorded in mono unfortunately :-( I'll try my hand at remastering soon.

  • @Treehouseman thanks treeman great look fwd to it leanda

  • Could you resubmit this video with the sound remastered please. It only plays mono and doesn't do this wonderful classic Tim Finn song the justice it deserves.

  • I love ya Tim, from an old bogey jazzzer (i think?)

  • Everything this man does is brillant, musically, lyrics...and that voice.... perfect package....gorgeous too......just so sensitive to human nature , the world is a nicer place while he's in it:)

  • Love this song.

  • I hear this song quite a bit on a local community radio station

  • An amazingly underated world class singer songwriter. Look up his other work - just so touching.

  • if you play it backwards it says eat more burgers

  • I heard this in a McDonalds in Prague and then again in McDonalds in Dallas a week later. I think there's something going on. I asked the manager in the Dallas branch about it and he pretended he didn't know anything about the Prague McDonalds playing it. Or Amsterdam McDonalds. But I reckon he was lying. I mean, does Tim pretend not to know about this? With his curly hair he could be Ronald MCDonald. I mean, really, has anyone seen Ronald McDonald without make-up? It's all starting to add up.

  • Recently went overseas to Amsterdam - shocked as hell to hear this is McDonalds

  • Last time I heard this song, McDonald's in Bethpage, sometime in the early 90s. I stopped eating fast food a long time ago, but still love the programming on FM1, though in the 90s it was at its best.

  • Women win. Good choon.

  • A great song-- co-written with Richard Thompson, another under-rated master.

  • love this song ! Tim sounds exellent

  • I remember hearing this song for the first time in 1996, and then I didn't hear it again for 11 years until I got the two disc album with stuff from the affiliates of Split Enz. Just when I was beginning to think this song had been something from my imagination! The live version Tim does on the album is better though...

  • I bought the album Before and After, which features this track, when it came out in 1993 and its only recently that Ive revisited it......and its being played to death! Timeless music, cant recommend it enough.

  • I've got Before and After and I agree. It's a great album that went largely unnoticed over here. It's a shame. So many really good songs.

  • Mate, you got taste! This is a great album and i like all the songs.Nell finn has a fab voice and has is a great songwriter

  • I love this song, played it a lot. Makes me warm in a cold Sweden.

  • great song

  • OMG THANK YOU!!!

This is surely the rarest of all Tim's music videos-VERY hard to find, and this is such a pristine copy at that! :)

  • Persuasion is such a great song. All Tim Finn's work needs more recognition!

  • Thank you, thank you, thank you soooo much!

You don't know how long I've waited to see this clip and to drink in this song and fully appreciate the masterful creation that is "Persuasion". Once again, thanks!

  • Been waiting AGES to see this, thank you SO much!

  • Thank you so much! Never thought I'd see this one.

Do you have other rare Finn/Crowded House or Split Enz videos?

  • Only the little 2 minute Fingers Of Love clip. I wait in breathless anticipation of what RAGE will bring from the vault (as soon as my Media Centre is up and running!)

  • The Fingers of Love clip was also much appreciated and enjoyed. *g* I'll be waiting with equally breathless anticipation for that which you find and share. Thanks, again!

  • Excellent thanks for the upload :o)

  • Thanks so much for this.

    Great song, nice clip.
