No, But I know it is a very good style. How long have you been training? I have been training for 24 years now. Age 19 to 43. We live in United States, Darlington, South Carolina
Iv been doing Kyokushin for 16 years, age 11 and on going! I have cross trained in alot of other styles aswell. Im in South Wales in Great Britain. Wish i had a Dojo like yours, most Dojo's in the UK are rented sports or church halls!
Good to here from you again. In Kyokushin do you practice Katas? Kyokushin is known here more for their awsome kick. Any suggestions behind practicing that?
Yes Kata is a major part of it. We have many kata, probably very simular to your own with a coulple of differences. Kyokushin is very power based, but ultimatly all karate styles should be striving for that Ichi Geki (one strike, one kill(or knock out, dependimg on what they'v done!). There is a massive emphasis on repition of Kihon and conditioning which will lead to powerful techniques. If your ever in the UK let me know, maybe we can meet up and swap training methods.
Osu! Well I dont't know that I will be in the UK anytime soon, but you never know. What is your name? I am Curtis Boyd. I saw some of your breaks on video, do you have any videos of your katas? We have the same philisophy, one strike down. Each technique should be powerful and dynamic enough to destroy whatever part of the body you hit. Send me some of your videos and we can swap some Ideas that way.
My name is Terry Birkett, ill get some vids of me doing some Kata and ill upload for you. Have you got any vids of tameshiwari? There are thousands of vids of Kyokushin fights on here there are some awsome knockouts, take a look. osu
Osu Terry. I do not have any tameshiwari videos. We have broken boards but never proceeded to blocks or tiles. I have watched the knockout videos, they are awsome. Do you compete? We compete, and only wear cloth hand pads, but do not allow knockouts. I noticed they do not strike the face with the hands. Are they not allowed to make hand face contact? I know they love the round house kick to the neck standing inches away. I love that kick! Osu.
Yeh i used to compete, but haven't the last few years because I run my own business and couldn't find the time to train for them. Iv been the British Knockdown champ 4 times, winning the heavy weight as a middle weight twice aswell. Big international tournaments are open weight so it doesen't really matter.
No arm techniques are allowed to the face, because no padding is allowed either, some tournaments make you where shin padding but normally there are no pads allowed.
You can hit with any punches and elbows to the body and legs, you can kick with any kick you want to the body, face and head.(except groin and direct joint attacks) Hit as hard as you can, no pushing or grabbing so you have attack all the time! Its a tuff type of fighting, but you train hard for it first, its not something you get thrown into, your instructor will tell you when you can fight.
I love your Dojo.
