  • wow. i knew bama and vols fans got into it, but bandies? I can't decide who's better. Million Dollar Band haspretty awesome pep tunes but I love the Pride as well. The fact they never repeat a show at home is amazing. :D I'm for both bands.

  • oh, and take note that the only reason i commented on here in the first place was to defend what one of your "classy" fans stated about the mdb. otherwise, it never would have happened. i respect the pride. which is why i was on here to begin with. i believe the mdb is much better overall when you take all aspects into consideration, but never once did i have the sole intention to bash your band. what's classless garbage is for YOU to sit there and be unable to admit that the mdb is even good.

  • fact is, neither of us can truly say that either of our bands is FOR A FACT better than the other. alabama fans such as myself have a much better case to argue, however, in favor of our band because of all of our accomplishments, talent, legendary shows and conductors, lore, (the most) television appearances, and hardware. let's just leave it at this: both of our schools have stellar bands....and alabama just so happens to have stellar football in addition. ;)

  • No, no. Like I said, you have to perform well for me to admit you are a stellar band. The only people who are proud of you are your parents.

  • But I tell you what. You just leave your comments on videos of your own band, and I'll do the same. You won't find comments of mine on videos of the MDB and I'll keep it that way. But since this is a video of OUR band, how about you just stop? Alright?

  • ....because this is america, last time i checked, and this is youtube, and therefore i can look and comment on any video i please. if you have a problem with that, then maybe you should get a grip. and good for you for not commenting on mdb videos. but i honestly don't give a crap if you do or not. but countless vawls like yourself DO comment on mdb videos, trashing and bashing them. go look for yourself. and if tons of people trash a video, that must stem from jealousy.

  • So if a band wants to take on that amount of dedication, let them step forward. But three dull, motionless shows isn't going to cut it. You could be playing the best music ever written, but with no motion, there is no excitement. You think a rock band would get a standing ovation if they just stood on stage and never moved? Microphones, flip folders, and a trophy that no one will ever see mean nothing. What matters is performance, and the MDB has never even come close to that of the Pride.

  • wow, i read the first post you put up here, and then i just stopped reading. it's the same fluff being typed over and over, only in different order. you must have a lot of time on your hands, bud. and i'm not quite sure what you're still on the defensive about. i've already claimed that yalls band is the best marching band ever on the face of the earth. isn't that good enough for you?(rolls eyes)seriously though, dude, your statements that ut's band is better than ours is just as biased as mine.

  • I've taken a strong interest in the Pride since I first saw them, researched them, and befriended them. I'm not a member of the Pride, but damn it I love them. I'm proud of them. I've seen dozens of bands in my years as a Tennessee fan, and NONE of them compare to the dedication, the honor, precision, discipline, history, and tradition of excellence for which the Pride stands. We are the Tennessee Volunteers for a reason, and the Pride represents that tradition with unwavering loyalty.

  • Sudler Trohpy- Believe it or not, some bands don't want it. If the Pride wanted it, they'd have accepted the nomination. They didn't. The Sudler started in 1982 with the University of Michigan, and no band can get it more than once. Hence, it goes to lesser and lesser bands year by year. 2003 is pretty far down the list, and is NOTHING that should be bragged about. Anyone can win a sudler. Arkansas has one for God's sake.

  • Because guess what- if you're behind, above, or far down from ANY band in Neyland, you WON'T HEAR THEM. Not the MDB, not the Golden Band from Tigerland, No one. Another thing about sound- There is a monstrous difference between a LOUD sound, and a GOOD sound. And with network microphones, every bad sound and every mistake is picked up and amplified. If the Pride couldn't handle that, they wouldn't be amped. And you know what? I didn't hear a single bad sound out of them.

  • Microphones- NO BAND CAN BE HEARD BY EVERY PERSON IN NEYLAND STADIUM, but the majority of them would like to hear the Pride. So you don't mic your band. Well, maybe you should. It won't make you worse. I sat behind and slightly to the left of the MDB at this year's game, and never ever heard a single note out of them. I heard the pride, not because of the speakers, but because they were FACING ME. I'd rather hear their sound through a speaker than not at all.

  • What we don't want to see is the same show several times. What we don't want to see is a band standing on the field, motionless, while they play loud, uncontrolled, meaningless music. Chattanooga Choo Choo was one of several songs played in the circle drill medley, which has special meaning to the state of Tennessee. And it wasn't the most complicated. Even if is was, take a look at what they're doing WHILE they're playing it. They sure as hell aren't just standing there and humping air.

  • I liked dudeman's list of points, so I'm gonna make some of my own.

    1) Flip folders: The Pride performs a new halftime show for every single home game. With pregame, this adds up to 8 shows in a season. They also rarely if ever stop moving in any of these 8 shows, so yes, music and drill get exceedingly difficult to memorize. If they only learned 3 shows in a year as the MDB does, they wouldn't use flips. None of the 108,000 fans in TN care if the Pride has black plastic on their horns.

  • but i'm finished posting on this video. i'm obviously beating a dead horse here. ut has an amazing band that is second to absolutely no one, and the million dollar band, and every other band for that matter (ESPECIALLY those silly rascals who have won those useless trophies) are total pieces of garbage. there. i fixed it all. all hail the circles and pinwheels. and you will get turned around quickly with kiffin and possibly beat us next year and win 5 national titles. ;P happy holidays, yall.

  • and look up some videos of our last show against florida and auburn, and tell me honestly that it's not WAYYYY better and more exciting than a rotating pinwheel.

(but good luck with Kiffin, btw. you made a FAR better choice than auburn.)

  • 1) The Pride's sound is amplified, but only in the stands, and only before the game begins. This is also not the band's call; the athletic dept. decides this.

    2) The Pride does use flip folders, but only during halftime (excluding Circle Drill). The purpose is not so much for the music as it is the drill moves. Most shows that they perform are learned over the course of 4 rehearsals (8 total hours of rehearsal time).

    3) Happy Feet could not shake a stick at Circle Drill. Pride 1, MDB 0.

  • So what you're telling me is that, in essence, your band is looking at a DRILL CHART during halftime. WOOOOW. who DOES that? no wonder it's "the most DAaAaAaNgerous drill." and of course you only use mics in the stands. duh. you can't walk around on the field with a mic. but i'm sure yall would if you could.

and happy feet might not trump the actual DRILL, but Chattanooga Choo-Choo????? COME ON. MDB's great sound, playing ability, big sound, memorized drills, and music choice 5, PRAHDE 0.

  • and thanks, amanfromaplace, for proving that you really have no class about you whatsoever. it's really comical how you view our band as such a "rivalry", because frankly, we don't view it the same way. we don't like you, but we can admit a decent band when we see one. that's one of the many things that separates us from you. and Boogie Wonderland was a HECK of a lot more complicated than the darn chattanooga choo choo. LMAO. i mean, let's get real here.

  • You came on to our own video and blasted our band. Don't try to talk to me about class. You won't find any comments of mine on a MDB video. I don't even know who you're trying to convince, because no one here cares about our microphones, no one cared about your show, and no one cares about your sudler trophy. No one but band members even knows what a sudler trophy is. Give it up. I'm not wasting any more time here, and neither should you.

  • oh, silly tennessean, i will repeat, i only commented because of the trashy comment left by one of your fellow Vile fans. other than that, i would have gone my own way. and i'm not trying to convince anyone, because our hardware and national prestige speaks for itself. and i CAN talk about class, because i told you that i believe you all have a good band. band rivalries may exist up there, but down here, we couldn't care less about your band because we are too busy supporting our #1 ranked team.

  • Bands have historical rivalry just like football teams do. Being from Tennessee, it'll be a cold day in hell before I say that Alabama has a good band. Like every other fan, I judge bands by their performance. I don't give a damn if a band has a hunk of metal locked in their band room. Bands that stand on the field in crooked forms playing "Happy Feet" don't impress me, and neither does a Sudler trophy. The Pride performs and never disappoints. They don't need material to prove themselves.

  • and THANK you, gcropgcrop. all three are magnificent bands. they all just have different styles. the only reason i got on here in the first place was to defend the mdb from that bozo flapping his gums about ut being a "real" band with "real" tradition. as opposed to a fake band with fake tradition? please. sounds to me like you're upset that bama has shalacked you two years in a row (with no end in sight), and you're resorting to attacking something that can't actually "beat" your school.

  • oh boy. i knew one of you hill people would get upset over what i said. like i said, i RESPECT TENNESSEE'S BAND. they are very good. in no way am i "insulting" yall. i am simply pointing out ways in which we are different. and pal, there are tens of thousands of people sitting around EVERY band at football games, and you don't see them amping their sound. yall are good. but correct me if i'm wrong, but you have YET to win a sudler trophy, and the MDB won it in 2003.

  • Again, you're talking about something you know nothing about. If you didn't want to get into anything, you shouldn't have said anything in the first place. Do yourself a favor and stop now.

  • or what? the only thing that i was wrong about was the fact that you all mix up your shows more than i thought. you still amp your sound, you still use flip folders, and you still haven't won the sudler trophy. so obviously i do know a thing or two about what i'm talking about. stop being bitter and accept the fact that i'm not trying to pick some sort of fight with you. and by the way, you have YET to say that the mdb is good, and i've already stated that ut's band is.

  • @hillcrestscotty Besides the fact that you made a complet ass of yourself two years ago here, do you know why the Pride does not have a Sudler Trophy? The band's last director, Dr. WJ Julian, is the man to whom we all owe thanks for Circle Drill, Rocky Top, everything the Pride is and has been for the last fifty years is his doing. He made the band into what it is today. Well, Dr. Julian was offered the Sudler Trophy many times. He never accepted it. Sousa has continued this.

  • @hillcrestscotty So really, most likely the only reason several bands have the Sudle Trophy is because the Pride has never and will never accept it. I believe Dr. Julian said "We don't need to compete to prove we're better" or something along those lines.

  • I have been to 9 of the SEC stadiums and I will say the worst I remember seeing is the South Carolina band (not sure of their "official" name). No straight lines of any kind.

UT, Bama and LSU all have great bands. No need in arguing over it.

  • also, you wanna know why you sounded so much bigger than the mdb? it's because you PIPED YOUR BAND'S SOUND throughout the stadium over speakers. speakers! that's cheating. your pretty circles do look nice. they really do. but just because we memorize music, change up our shows three times a year, use our real sound, and march in straight lines doesn't make us inferior to you. your band would be TOTALLY lost if you had to march one of the mdb's halftime shows, and those lines would look awful.

  • You should come to every home game in a given season before you assume that the Circle Drill is the only show the Pride puts on. The Pride performs a completely new halftime show at every single home game, every season. As for straight lines, you obviously didn't watch their pregame, or any of their other halftime shows. The UT band is amped so that every one of the 106,000 people in neyland can hear them, because there are tens of thousands seated behind and above them.

  • I did watch the MDB's halftime show. And you know what? Their lines were terrible. I also never heard them play anything while they were marching a difficult set. Who cares if our band played through the system? They played WELL through the system, WHILE they were marching an EXTREMELY difficult drill, through the ENTIRE show. And that show was merely one of SEVEN, not just three. DON'T try to insult our band, because nothing you said was even close to true.

  • ok, can we all just acknowledge that BOTH bands are very good? saying that one band is better than the other really has no base at all. i will be the first to tell you that i despise tennessee, but i have tremendous respect for their band. but saying that they're "better" than the mdb is crazy. yall use flip folders (instead of memorizing music), and you do the same circle drill over and over and over again (of course you would be good at "the most daaangerous drill" if that's all you EVER did).

  • It's not all they ever do. The band does up to 7 shows a year. We love seeing the Pride doing Circle Drill and if you take into account the fact that there are several freshman down there on the field performing this for the first time actually makes it even more impressive.

  • With my seats being right there on the 50 yardline, right beneath Bob Kesling (the Voice of the Vols in the pressbox), I had a great view of both bands, and I'm not going to lie, the PotS destroyed the MDB. They outplayed and outmarched them. I love watching all the college bands perform, and I must say that the Pride and the Golden Band are the two best bands in the SEC, if not the country.

  • You lost any credibilty you may've had. You're obviously biased and clueless post hardly warrants a response, but i'll give you one anyways. The LSU band is among the elite, and is by far the best band in the SEC West playing wise and marching. I don't know if you watched the bands this weekend but the Pride's circle drill dominated Bama's park and blow show. The Pride is one of the most prestigious bands in the country, playing at the last 11 consecutive presidential inaugurations. $2 BAND!

  • roll fucking tide.....OH FUCK ROCKY TOP AND FAT PHIL

  • ROLLLL TIDEEEEE!

  • Wander whats with all the crimson jerseys in the crowd? lol

  • guess they decided to stay and see what real traditions and a real band were like

  • Happy you got a good band because your team

is not worth shit. 29-9 you redneck.

  • Wow Bama fans have a better team than us for the first time in more than a decade and it goes straight to their heads... As for redneck, if i'm not mistaking NWA stands for national wrestling alliance, hahaha redneck.

  • Bama has won 3 out of 4. I'm Gator fan how have yall done vs them the last 15 years?

  • ok... wow we won like 7 straight just a few years before that. And I could care less if you're a gator fan, i was proving that you were a dumbass which i did, not what team you liked.

  • I just looked it uop Bama beat your sorry asses 11 in row under Bear and 7 in a row another time.

  • ok.... that was my point that it is a historically streaky rivalry and winning 2 in a row or "3 out of 4" as you said is nothing. And if you place so much empahsis on it lets take a look at your team. We won 10 straight over Florida. Floridas longest over the Vols? 5. hahaha

  • You think the "Pride of the Southland" can even touch The Million Dollar Band?

Two bands in the SEC reign supreme: The Million Dollar Band and the Golden Band from Tigerland. All the rest are, quite frankly, terrible.

    Have a nice day.

  • btw the $2 band tries to immitate the PRIDE'S circle drill and it sucks. Every year they try to outplay the Pride and it never happens. Circle Drill to 11 minute long halftime shows to try to keep the pride off the field i've seen it all but it never works. At the end of the day the PRIDE gets as much applause as the $2 band at Bryant-Denny and I don't even need to mention Neyland

  • lurch, you are completely classless. never in my life have i heard "as much applause" for ut's band as the mdb at bryant-denny. you're completely full of it. and you're right, we can't outplay you. because you're one of the only bands in the entire country that magnifies their sound with microphones. how fake. the mdb couldn't care less about the pride, because we are among the elite bands in the nation. sudler trophy = something we have and you don't. sorry, chum.

  • What microphones?!?!?!

If you are referring to the microphones in the stands they are placed there by the tv network broadcasting the game......

  • ut's band puts their sound through microphones. because i was sitting in the mdb section and there was a set of speakers directly in front of us on the sideline, and no sound came out of them until the ut band started playing. and then i saw more of them around the stadium. heck, look at the pride at a game. they have a suspended mic right in front of them in the stands.

  • Sacapuntas has a valid point. I was in the student section right next to the band before the Florida game, and a guy from CBS was setting up the mics in the stands. So, to completely prove you wrong, the mics are set up by the TV stations, not the band. You're a moron.

  • no, i'm not a moron. you're telling me that television networks have control over amping your band's sound. no other prestigious band or athletic program in the sec or hardly the nation would allow a tv network to do something like that. also, if the television networks set up the microphones, then how come there are large speaker sets stationed DIRECTLY in front of the visiting band? this is simply an intimidation factor that ut has tried to implement to boom rocky top into everyone's faces.

  • Maybe TV networks don't want to listen to other bands...Just a thought. When the Vols are not on national/regional TV, there are no mics in the stands. And as Amanfromaplace said, they are on the mic only before the game, seeing as how it's not allowed to be on mics during the game.

  • @hillcrestscotty The Athletic Dept. mics the band because they're IDIOTS. The band has been crapped on by Atheltics for the last twenty years. You know nothing about the Pride, or anything else you're blabbing about.

  • @hillcrestscotty You REALLY don't seem to get this. When I was leaving the UT-Bama game this past fall, yes we lost, but I heard BAMA fans talking about how much better the Pride was over the MDB. Same ol' park-and-bark Queen routine we've seen so many times. They amplify their sound in the STANDS, not the field. And that's because of orientation in the stadium. If you're sitting behind ANY band or above them, you WON'T hear them! Oh, and I don't think I need to explain the Sudler again, "chum".
