its too bad they went bankrupt before they can do the Solon Heritage Campaign story, they had to launch it as it was with just skirmish and multiplayer. an i think what finished the company off was that ALOT of copies didnt have the CD key with it, i baught it twice an there was no CD key i couldent play. had to find one online luckily found it. so they had to recall many of them games just cause they failed to put the Booklet with the CD key in the box an then that was the end of them.
@Anoleis That probe cannot be detected on sensors. Send it to the system of your choice, then deploy it. Then select the ships you want, and order them to "Jump to Probe." They will after a short delay appear in the system the Signaler probe entered, without using the Wormhole. However, because this form of transit is less safe, the ships who warp through will be damaged quite a bit (and will be randomly placed around the target system). It is best reserved for Cruisers or Battleships.
@Anoleis If you haven't done this already, get the Solon Heritage expansion pack. The original's gameplay is largely a race to get the most battleships with the most upgrades. The expansion pack rebalances the game and makes the other ship classes far more important, as well as making the other factions far more unique.
When I saw the Solon base first time in Legions of Iron campaign, I almost pissed myself. I was like: Oh my f*cking god, f*cking huge spaceship destroying my ships in one shot. If it will come for me I'm f*cked. :D
Too bad there was no Solon race in The Solon Heritage expansion. If there was, it would be goddamn badass and little OP :D
@MartinRusin There are Solon ships in the expansion, and they are extremely powerful. Any race can build them, but not without a Solon Communications Centre station. Without that, the Solon Ships can't move or fire.
i just got this game and it is quality, however i can only play it for 5mins, then 4 some strange reason get "sytsem sound error" then take be back to desktop well anoying!, looked everywer 4 a soultion, but their is nothing, which is a shame cuz this is a quality game
It's good to remember what's been done before. This game had some balance problems, but it was great for its time, even now, and in my mind could have been much more popular.
yeah, the reviewers have been wrong alot. I've been doing alot of advertising for haegemonia/hegemonia. It paid off, because many of my friends play it now.
You might want to check the vector prime mod out, see my profile for vid and information how to get it.
To mazryonh: A 1.0 version of VP has been released a few weeks ago, so go to the modDB profile and get it!
I'm in the middle of crunch time in my course, but when it's finished I will have the skills to help you even more.
Hopefully there will be those who remember Nexus: The Jupiter Incident as the revolution it was, as well. Long live the good ones, however unsupported they were.
wow! I never new that they made an expansion for this game. I played through the original and then the game seemed to die out. I always felt it had the best space visuals of any game ever released but that its game mechanics were just plain broken. Also the campaign was very poor. Whats the expansion like? Is it any good?
Yes, they did. It was only released in Europe though.
The game mechanics are much better in this version, as it isn't a race just to get battleships anymore (they have no anti-fighter defenses, so you could take them out with fighters!). Spies get more abilities too, and each race gets 2 new unique units.
Thats too bad about the release. I think that if you took an updated version of the Heagemonia graphics and laid them over the game mechanics of Sins of a Solar Empire that you would have a definate game of the year candidate
I felt the missiles were very effective, more so than ion or lasers, at least with ships. You have ECM resist, and I tended to get about 80% hits with campaign foes (who are idiotic, and easy to beat. Especially since they can't use spies.) Ignoring the slippage, which was considerable. And yeah.. pretty video. I have SH too ^^
You're welcome. I was talking about human opponents, who are perfectly capable of researching ECM technology, except for the Darzok, who are stuck with 40% ECM chance.
Of course, the "Meteor Gun" missile is best used for assaulting ECM protected planets, since almost any target can evade it just by moving. Still, it's funny to fight the Terran AI and watch their missiles blow up like a fireworks show against an ECMed planet.
Are you talking about playing as Kariak? They have the best Ion weapons and decent missile weapons (the only ones that can stun shields!).
I like playing as Terran or Darzok, though as Terran you pretty much have to research proton weapons and missiles, which negates their 10% RP discount.
There's nothing more cruel than researching Planetary ECMs and laughing as 80% of hostile missiles explode harmlessly.
ECM planet... that`s hella funny. I was playing against terran AI, they broke into my system (afk rulez) and were going for my planets... i was like "shit... no wait. rocket battleships? HAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAA"
hah. Only missile thing i use are 2 cruisers for getting planets...
i`ve got no idea why, but in Solon Heritage i couldn`t get a planet with proton, neither quantum weapons, but as soon as i pushed missile cruiser on them, i conquered them...
and i`ve discovered a bug. In skirmish, when mercs ask you if you need their help, they kill off enemy ships, attack planets, etc etc. But... when 4 squardons of their fighters passed next to Gas Giant, i suddenly had message
"You conquered Phoenix (...)" (Duel skirmish map, "zoo" system as i call it). I think "what phoenix?" check the starmap, and i see... gas giant with radar and name "phoenix" o_O it had population of 836/0 millions, and i started Planet Terraforming immediatly. I was fast enough to complete it.... and i had gas Giant turned into Gaia o_O
I´ve managed to finish the campaign of haegemonia - legions of iron and played all mods for TSH. I still gotta admit that its the best space strategy game ever created still. It has superb graphics, great gameplay and a soundtrack which sucks you into the game. It's a shame that haegemonia 2 was never developed...
Well, Star Apocalypse is trying to recreate some elements of haegemonia. The game will include several gametypes. The game is still in early stages of development
I didn't finish Nexus yet, I'm in the 3rd episode, the mission where you have to sneak into the gorg base. Haven't got much time to continue it, as I'm in my final year of college (and don't want to screw up)
I played a lot on this game (didn't managed to play it out) but my old computer died out on me so I bought a new one with Vista. But the game won't instal on it. Something to do with old OS... I would love to play it again if I could.
This is why it's sometimes beneficial to keep a partition on your hard drive with an old OS on it, like Windows XP, or even an older computer. There's just too much fun to be had from the XP era to give up on it yet.
I'm completely lame at RTS games, but Tamás Kreiner's music is great! That's the only reason I played the demo. Too bad that here in Hungary mainly RTS games are made on "hihger budget".
i bought it yesterday and i like it. The thing is that is very difficult to play. i started an easy mission and the enemy is attacking me from the very beggining :S
Good! Hope you're having fun with the new Solon ships, the powerful new weapons (did you see the new quantum weapons, which are snowflake launchers?), the new units (such as the Terran stealth nukes), and all the nifty new inventions!
That's the price you pay for a great-looking engine and highly detailed ships, man. If you want more units, play on the "Bulldoze" map on the Solon Heritage Expansion. Many more units possible there, except you can't expand your fighter squads.
I hope you show the game to other interested friends!
Teh best space RTS imo! Nice balance, good tactics, good selection of ship classes (nice visual disign as well btw) - and excellent graphics including space and explos that look awesome even today!
You should. It involves quite a bit of strategic and tactical skill, not to mention a lot of espionage. But be sure you get the expansion pack, since the game is rather unbalanced without it.
I will post a vid response which shows the storyline. Although the movie is very outdated, it still is good enough. The devteam name has changed to Darkmatter Development (as we want to make more games later on)
I am also trying to make a game bit like haegemonia, but with some elements of space empires 5 included in it (Stellar manipulation, for the curious ones, it enables 100% map alteration during gameplay). The project is getting started now, with the engine done ( :D ). We are now going to focuss on coding the rest, and working on the graphics. The game will be 100% free, thus non-commercial
It's kind of sad. This game was amazing and it simply never took off here in america. You go onto the forums and you cant even believe this game exists. I remember when I got it logging onto the multi player and sitting there for over 2 hours.... No one else came online to play it. Was so sad =(
I would agree, it's a great game, but it was underexposed in North America. I hear it was successful enough in Europe to warrant the expansion showcased here, though.

Vector Prime, well, the main modder returned, so we're bundling what we've done separately now. Work has been delayed though.
I also created a haegemonia group, see on my profile the groups for info ;)

started playing the game i understand its better to aim for one weapon type.
which one is the best?proton\quantom\ion?
i dont like the missles.
barak219 4 years ago
Terrans specialize in missiles and proton weapons. Kariaks do best with Ion weapons. Darzok do best with Quantum weapons.
Take the time to read the weapon research descriptions; you'll learn lots about them that way.
Mazryonh 4 years ago
Missiles easily crack any big ship. I use a combination of Ions and Missiles. Ions for fighters, Missiles for the big ships.
