My God, I am sorry for my sins with all my heart. In choosing to do wrong and failing to do good, I have sinned against you whom I should love above all things. I firmly intend with your help to do penance, to sin no more, and to avoid whatever leads me to sin. Our Savior suffered and died for us, in His name, my God, have mercy. I learned it in 2007 and that's what they taught us in school
This "Act" is terribly insufficient and greatly altered from the original indulgenced "Act of Contrition" prayer. Next, the woman had no head covering, and her skirt was far too short to be 'reverent', as was her 'gallop' to kneeler Lastly, they ignore the differences between Perfect and Imperfect contrition. PERFECT contrition is because you are sorry that YOU OFFENDED GOD; imperfect is your sorry you 'got caught'. We MUST strive for Perfect Contrition which ultimately lessens our penance.
@csrtitus Yes, Christ died for our sins. However, in doing so, He opened the gates of heaven which were closed by the sin of disobedience from Adam and Eve. We are to model our lives after Christ, as He was the model of how we should be living our lives. Christ was sinless, but died for the sins of humanity. However, we cannot enter heaven unless we are repentant and make penance for the sins WE have committed against Him.
@csrtitus Let's use this analogy: You want to see a movie; you do not write the script, hire the actors, put it into film production or distribution or own the building or equipment in which the movie is shown. Of course, all of these things have a cost to them. You do not have to pay the multimillions of dollars in which it costs to bring the movie to you. However, you must pay a small fee in order to view the movie and use the facility. Christ brings you the movie, you pay small entry fee.
@jrlomy2k Good analogy and all but if I choose to not see the movie or I walk out of the movie the theater staff is not going to damn my soul and send me to hell.
@csrtitus Very true, but that is a choice you made and then can't complain that you do not know what the movie is about in the end. God does not send us to hell; we send ourselves by sin. He has set the laws and its up to us whether or not we are obedient to them. "The law is harsh, but is still the law." Confession allows for absolution and penance, indulgences and grace. You receive sanctifying grace when you are absolved; a pure, spotless soul once again. The only kind that enters heaven
People today forget that in the end there are two judgments at/after death: General and Particular. The particular soul is judged immediately after death; whether it's Heaven, Hell or Purgatory. This is between you and God. General Judgment is at the end of time; all souls for all time will be shown their sins to everyone else, and they will see yours; only Heaven and Hell remain. We will see 'why' souls went to heaven or hell. An absolved sin is a forgotten one at Judgment.
Personally I am a non believer, but it's well made and well explained.
Personally i think the point of confessing and preforming the "Act Of Contrition" is to make people reflect upon their deeds, which i think everybody should do, because that is what makes us better people!
So what ever reason you have to do so, do it and do it often!
This is one of the things I like about a lot of religions, is that they tell people that they should reflect on their deeds.

Jesus said when you pray do not use vain repititions, as the heathen do. Memorized prayers said over and over again are empty repititions. You holler "my repititions are not vain!" but the very repeating over and over makes it empty, and your heart doesn't connect with Jesus
Jesus wants to hear the words from your heart, not a dead recital of empty, useless words
I totally agree, vain repetitions of prayer is not what was intended. But still they chant their prayers day and nigh, when will they realise how useless they have become.
Thank you for this. I was trying to find a video for my God Daughter who I felt the books given to her, even though for a younger age, still would go over her head. So I looked for a video like this that would help her get ready for her first confession and her first holy communion.
I think this video is a little silly, but Confession (which for my Protestant brothers and sisters is what Christ put in place)is a beautiful Sacrament and the peace and healing that comes from it is amazing. Praise God!
@BUSHIDOCHAN SSPX and other schismatic catholic groups: also invalid as they have no jurisdiction. I have yet to find an SSPX'er who can answer this question: If you still pay homage to a false pope, and still believe that you can remotely obtain salvation through the Novus Ordo (which you cannot), then why the supposed 'state of emergency' from Lefebvre and his illegitmate 'traditionalism'?
I say...

There is a saying, "It is best to keep your mouth closed and be thought a fool, than to open your mouth and remove all doubt"
And on top of that.........you can't spell.
