So the Eugenics philoshopy is now called a Functionalism?
Well its nice to know that western civilisation once more finded a new way to explain to it self that the "reallty" is mainly nice & comfortable cos its body is healthy while the bodys of East & South are in nefariously poor, neglect and all in all in shity state.
Still I wonder if somebody one day would cut a transfusion hose which pump the blood from East&South body to the Western one would the West still stay so functional as now?
The assumption that functionalism only applies to the large scale is seriously mistaken. Functionalism was adopted by most anthropolgists for studying very smalll scale societies by 'participant observation'. F.ism is rooted in the 'paradigmatic' assumption that all phenomena have a purpose which contributes to the viability of the whole, eg livers, kidneys, families, organisations.... and that sometimes that each is prey to pathology. Functions may be research by any convenient technique.
Using my broad spectrum of analysis I can use my ascribed status to preform a proper functioal analysis using critical thinking we can see why the iron law of oligery plays a big part in todays society where marxism is often practiced.
this reminds me of the diversity video we just had to watch at work. I never see color, creed, gender. I personally treat all people kind. I cant understand why there is such divide? We are trained from our childhood who to like and to dislike from our parents. I on the other hands judge people for myself. If people are nice to me I am going to be nice to them I have a mind of my own now that I am an adult. So shame on me if I don't treat people kindly. you need more than love though
@dbarr73 you've missed the poin then, however the beloved soundtrtack may have misled you..... diversity is more of a postmodern idea than a modernist structuralo functionalist one.
Just one thing... if this is related to Talcott Parson's theory (and it seems to me a lot), then the family isn't a necessary condition. He distinguished in economic, political, SOCIAL and cultural functions. So this doesn't imply explicitely family (father, mother, etc.), but other people that care for you in general (which could also be alternative ways of living together, e.g. single parent, relatives, boarding school, homosexual parents etc.)
This video was really helpful. I could never understand Functionalism but now I do :)

The ending was weird, staying on that guy, staring at the car... - but the rest was very helpful!
