My family and I just got back from eating at Outback in Live Oak, Texas. It was the worst dining experience ever. They told us a 40 minute wait which turned into an hour wait. The ran out of baked potatoes. The steak was horrible. Finally the waiter spilled a plate full of food on one of my guests. DON’T EAT AT OUTBACK!!!

And you know what, sometimes I can't even tell a Canadian just by hearing him/her talk. I didn't even know Jim Carrey is Canadian until I looked it up years ago.

There are however certain words, i.e. "About", "House", and "Against", that automatically tells us they are Canadian by the way they say those words.

Assuming you're American, the reason you can't tell is because you're not familiar enough with either accent to tell the difference.

The difference between Australian and kiwi accents is almost the same as the difference between Canadian and American. Americans sound almost the same as Canadians but there are a few key differences and if you're familiar you can pick them out

There are a few subtle differences between Canadian and American talk, not that anybody, even in North America can, spot them. But there are a few differences.

Listen for the key words...."against", "house", "about", "outfit" "sorry". Listen to how we as Americans say those words and then listen to how those Canadian say them and you'll notice a considerable difference.
