On some of his other records GC was sometimes on the verge of sounding whiny, but they put a little echo on his voice here and it sounds fantastic. CT did the definitive version of this song, but this one matches it.
Glen can do no wrong! He has a great sense for great music and how to do it. He sings great and plays great. How can ya top that? Just an exceptional artist. I'm just saying.
I haven't listened to Glen Campbell for awhile. I forgot how good he really was. Great voice and an incredible guitarist. I agree he tops Conway Twitty.
Once in a while a singer comes along who can improve on the original recording of a song and Glen Campbell does it in spades!!! This is the best version of this song there has ever been and that includes the original. He makes it his very own and no other version comes anywhere close. Love it.
I have loved this song my whole life never knew why, just found out it was released in59, the year i was born. This is a great version still like conway better....
Well, it's an awfully cool song, Wolfsky, but it's from 1970, and in reality, "Rhinestone Cowboy" was a much bigger hit....but I like this one tons more. Progressive chord changes rule!
From '73, it was Glen's all-time biggest hit, & I never, ever tired of hearing it. KODOS to Al DeLory for all those magnificent arrangements he did for Glen. What a difference it makes. Wolfsky9
I always loved his voice. Just beautiful!

Yep, must agree - just listened to Conway Twitty a few moments ago - this, in my opinion is much better.

I wish Elvis P recorded this song. He's voice would have suited it. But this is one fine version.

I definitely prefer this to the Conway version - has more oomph and emotion.
