Sam, I really don't know how anyone could think that John Hall didn't ruin the band program. My Freshman year, there were over 100 people in both bands. By the middle of my Sophomore year, there were 33. Reflection on his teaching? I think so.
@MoerderKrampus Mhm, my husband wrote you that comment. So going creeper-style on me really isn't needed. However, I really don't think it's appropriate to slander former teachers.
@MoerderKrampus maybe this is a reflection of how students only joined band before because they thought they could goof off which is what they did with Miss Altmann. People only quit because Mr. Hall made them do things they didn't want to do like practice and sit up when you play. Can you say that Larose is doing any better of a job. Ask anyone who was in band after Mr. Hall left they would choose him over Larose.
All that I have to say is that all of those people who dropped out of band don't have any idea of how amazing John Hall was. Mr. Hall was an amazing person and the only reason why people didn't like him was because he actually made them do things they were supposed to do. I learned so much from him. And also the reason why some of these students arn't becoming real musicians is because they are lazy and quit hence the reason why they quit band. You should be more respectful. End of story.
Brings back lots of memories. When I was in the NHS marching band (class of 1976) we had many more members (over 80) but I can still see the spirit. Good luck to you all.
Too bad JohnHall raped the Band Program... Then the Band members would have had a chance of becoming real musicians....
