For people that are curious about the welding parameters of hard facing rod are usually written on the box they are sold on. But with most that i have used, i keep my amperage slightly lower then a then the same size of a low-hydrogen rod, and have my polarity on AC instead of reverse. Mainly because this will reduce dilution of the base metal, and prevent any arc blow which you sometimes might get with these rods. Im a journeymen welder in Canada, Alberta, and been welding for 10 years.
if you run a weav patten you will use less rod and it will whear better make x workds well give a place for the drit to stick and then the small lare of dirt is proteting your cutting eages on a small thing like that would not make much diffence. it's just i know how much that rod cost.
welcome aboard , thanks for the tips , mines gonna see light use so i wasnt real worried about , gonna replace field tiles in soft dirt. and play around yard
what i do like about using those rods is , if they wear down i can just add more weld.
That's a good lookin bucket. I haven't been put on the tig where I work yet but I'm cutting with carbon arc and should be welding soon - watching your metal fab is gettin me pumped up.
500, Thanks for posting the bucket hardfacing welding process on your YT channel. Those stick welds look good in my book. I have finally found a project to build. I am looking forward to putting it on YT.

Would a quick cold quench help this to be harder? or is a fast quench not required for this alloy?
rubnayr 2 months ago
@rubnayr
i never heard of anybody
quenching after using these rods
but i dont do it very much.

great video 500 why did you weld the teeth on with a stick welder and not a mig welder.
MasterWelder1991 3 months ago in playlist METAL WORKING
i dont have the need to weld hardened edges that often so it wasnt cost affective to change my mig set up . its cheaper using the rods

we use flux cored mig wire 1.6mm dia for hardfacing. Twice as quick as rods
prodeltd 2 years ago
sounds good man , i didnt have enough to do to make it worth setting mig up for fluxcore , and that was the only hard facing rod they had,
i dont use hard facing very much. :) thanks for commenting, 500

hey now that is some pretty welds. i notice that the welds were smoothly interlaced, that is very tricky to do! can not wait to see it all mocked up.
