@j444n I realize this comment is 3 years old, but I just can't help responding to such lunacy. Of all the reasons NOT to vote for McCain, this plainly unremarkable comment is the one that you find most compelling. Forget that he would have bombed every living thing on Earth (not that O has been much better), he called his opponent "that one!!!"
I know, it has "racist" undertones, right?...like everything in the universe these days. Absurd.
I don't think it was meant to be racist although many people perceive it to be but I must admit it is discriminatory towards Obama but not specifically his race.. Just look at all the negative campaigning, all the negative comercials on t.v. This seems like a live example of that. Well thats just my opinion.
It was not racist. McCain the poor angry old retard has no idea and is completely out of place in this presidential race. He does all he can to stop dribbling when he talks. McCain + Pallin = McFailing

@rustEshakelford Correction it is a MAJOR issue, because it tells you everything about John McCain as a man. He's arrogant, churlish and rude. This wasn't racist, this was disrespect at its height. How dare he refer to a fellow congressman as "that one". McCain will live to regret this moment, and it's beginning to show. Keep digging the hole John; it's getting wider and wider.
McCain's comment about "that one" was low and cretinous. He has no class. In fact, he's treated Obama with disrespect throughout the debates. Obama, on the other hand, has been nothing less than gracious, even in spite of McCain's attitude. His behavior is detrimental to civilized debate - and in a presidential campaign no less.
"That One", Mr. McCain? Seriously?
Well let's go ahead and vote for "THAT ONE". I'm ready to do it just to spite McCain.
this guy is still living in the 50's where statements like "boy" and "colored" were acceptable. why else would he think that obama has to do what is asked of him or else there would be repercussions. and if you still dont follow, john mccain's reason for going negative in the campaign is that barack would not do as he is told and debate him in a townhall setting. WHAT??? This motherfucker done lost his mind. Thats why he's comfortable calling the "MAN OF THE CENTURY" "that one". RACIST FUCK.

I fail to see why everyone is overreacting over something so trivial. God forbid, he called somebody "that one." It doesn't change the fact that his political policies and ideals are what will bring this nation out of economic ruin. Contrary to what Barack Obama and the Democratic Party would like for you to believe, raising taxes for businesses DOES effect middle class Americans. Who do you think ends up paying the difference? Consumers.
people are far over reacting, quit focusing on simply the two words which were taking out of context and try paying attention to how he plans solve the country's major issues before you rule him as being a racist, which is unfair
It wasn't racist, it was a bit childish. The whole thing about it being racist is BS. As a person of color, and someone who has faced actual violent racism, believe me, that was not racist. He was simpy pointing at Obama and comparing himself with him, wasn't done nicely or maturely however its not racist.
it isn't rascist, but is this the president you want, if he would treat a man like this think of yourselves. Sen. John McCain (R-Ariz.) made an overnight change in the homeowner bailout he proposed at Tuesdays presidential debate, making it more generous to financial institutions and more costly for taxpayers.
McCain is the best."ThatOne",what a groovy thing to say.He spoke from the heart and thats good. But the correct vernacular meaning should have said been "that black one sitting right there"that way tightass pompus celebutes like katie curric would have something to naw on.
Hey everyone see it is people like this in the world Oh! i didn't mean people i meant assholes like this in the world that say shit like this This is the reason Palin and McCain are on the ticket. this is our future, make sure thats not the case.
If Obama's off the cuff remark about putting lipstick on a pig was slammed so bad by the GOP, I don't see how they can possibly in a million years defend this. While I personally don't think it was meant racially, it still shows how badly McCain is out of touch with common Americans, and hopefully this comment finally sunk this clown and his evil fascist running mate. Time to get these old clowns. We need a new voice. Vote Obama.
I don't think it's racist, I think it's very disrespectful to call a US Senator "That One". End the end, it just makes me dislike McCain more than I use too.
His statement/reference to the only black US Senator as that one is more of a sign of blatant DISRESPECT. One can infer that his disrespect for Senator Obama may stem from racial prejudice. Furthermore, his campaign although may not endorse or advocate racial comments or references, they sure as hell don't discourage them nor reprimand when those at a rally refer to a US Senator as a "terrorist" or shout "kill him." Mr. McCain is leading a very disrespectful and shameful campaign "my friends"
To me, he's obviously talking about which senators voted for the bill, and he pointed at THAT senator. Yes, that one. What a stupid argument to play the "race card" mere weeks before the election! Look at Barack, he clearly had zero reaction to that statement, because he understands he's being referred to as a SENATOR.
Calling your opponent in a debate "that one" is not derogatory?? Well, I'm not American, but over here anyone who used that term would immediately lose all chances of being elected. It's one step short of calling him an ape. I sincerely hope for you guys that McCain does not end up as president.
wherever you're from sounds like a bunch of idiots if they would base their vote on whether someone is referred to by name or not. give me a break, kid.
And calling someone "kid" when I'm most likely older than you, as well as referring to my country as "a bunch of idiots"... that's just what I was talking about. Keep the debate decent.
Obama's going to have the same problem come election day that most Democratic candidates have had going back 30 years (all except Clinton)...the polls aren't accurate because too many people say they plan to vote Democrat and then that Tuesday night comes (that one) and instead of voting they're sitting in their basement getting high or playing video games or whatever. Then the serious Democrats cry foul when the numbers don't seem to add up. Do like you did with Clinton. Get out there and vote!
Ha, good one. Mine is: due to McCain's comment, he truly shows that he's just "that normal politician" None should worry, Obama has now almost guaranteed himself the presidency after this debate.
ChickenBot: You say that McCain doesn't know how to lie. Obviously, you didn't watch his appearance on The View where he said, when asked, that two of his ads against Obama weren't untrue, when in fact it was obvious that they were bold face lies.
John McSame is toast. History at this point. As Biden said today... Maverick? More like a Sidekick. Thank you John for your years of service and may you have many more. But the race is over.
I'm glad someone posted this clip. I was so appalled that McCain referred to Obama as "that one". As someone mentioned it reduces the other person to an object and dehumanizes them. And yes, I would have been equally appalled if Obama had addressed McCain in this fashion.
I think it's very telling of the disdain that McCain has for his opponent. I can't go as far as saying it's racist, but it's extremely disrespectful and callous.
i'am an independent. please dont vote independent. vote for obama. cant you see hes honest. you must like bush politics because a vote for independent is a vote for bush, err i mean mmcnut.
Dude. At this point it is absolutely certain that an independent won't win this. If there were a chance in hell i'd say 'go for it!' but there's not. Its too late in the game for an independent to win the entire country over in this election. Therefore a vote for an independent is a vote for mccain which might as well be a third term for bush. Making you a self-righteous voter in a sense. Just vote obama, because he's as good as it gets. And that's actually...pretty goddamn good if ya ask me.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
Obama is a masterful liar, the best liars of course are the ones that really seem to be on your side, the Dems did not place Obama there because he cares for the people....are you stupid or something?
McCain in the other hand does not know how to lie, that is why he messes up so much, loses his temper, even when he tries to lie, you can tell...he is not that smart.
Mccain is a mother f***ing racist. He did not even look at the Obama.Anybody saying that this comment was not racist you are pathetic. Didn't you see Cindy Mccain after the debate, she did not shake anybody's hands, humm, i wonder if she really like the Mavericks. I guess not since she is rich, she doesn't need to shake some middle-class dude's hand, does she now.But in the other hand Obama and his wife stayed and SHOOK EVERYONE'S HANDS,doesn't that tell you something, about who really care for us.
I don't think the that one comment was racist but it certainly was meant as an insult. Such a comment reduces the person to an object instead of a human being. McCain should be ashamed. I was a McCain supporter and after Palin was chosen I ditched the old coot. Every time he opens his mouth now I thank god I withdrew my support. He's an idiot just like Bush.
Well, the comment itself was disrespectful, but not racist. However, the intention of it was racist; I don't think it was an accident, I think it was said on purpose to motivate the bigots that are still left in this country to vote against Obama, but it backfired, and it made McCain look like an idiot.
This comment has received too many negative votesshow
C'mon now.. i'm a HUGE Obama supporter, but even I know pointing at Obama and saying "that one" when you're insinuating something in a debate is not meant as being racist... seriously, this just makes obama supporters look nieve, and like they're trying to make an issue out of something that's not even there.. please remove this video..
It's not racist. What it is is disrespectful. Obama is a fellow senator, and has a name. If I was talking about what a coworker did, even if I was against it, I'd never call them "that one".
oh, i couldn't agree, more. McCain is so disrespectful. It's because he's going to lose it when he doesn't become president, after going this far. I bet McCain will crack, when Obama gets the nomination, and he'll end becoming a terrorist against obama's presidency.

if that is not his end as a politician
i really don't understand the american people
and if the next president of the U.S. won't be obama its evidence for the stupidity of

A vote for independent is a vote for independent...what is the matter with you?
Bush is not independent. Don't give me that crap about a vote for I is a vote for Bush.

I, D or R we are royally screwed my friends.

C'mon now.. i'm a HUGE Obama supporter, but even I know pointing at Obama and saying "that one" when you're insinuating something in a debate is not meant as being racist... seriously, this just makes obama supporters look nieve, and like they're trying to make an issue out of something that's not even there.. please remove this video..

I'm Black and I know it's not racist, but I do think it's funny..and not the most respectful thing to say to someone.
cjh8 3 years ago
well thank you for at least confirming that it's not a "racist comment". i think most rational people can tell that... that said, GO OBAMA!!
Gangularis 3 years ago
It's not racist. What it is is disrespectful. Obama is a fellow senator, and has a name. If I was talking about what a coworker did, even if I was against it, I'd never call them "that one".
FirePuffchan 3 years ago 4
I agree completely. McCain lets the political game completely get to him, and forgets common courtesy in debate cenarios.
Gangularis 3 years ago
i agree is not a racist remark, but think about it; who wants a president with such horrible manners?
MournfulDemon 3 years ago 3
oh, i couldn't agree, more. McCain is so disrespectful. It's because he's going to lose it when he doesn't become president, after going this far. I bet McCain will crack, when Obama gets the nomination, and he'll end becoming a terrorist against obama's presidency.
