how do you get the little ding sign to come up in your video, and what do I need to do this? Great shooting platform you have and I love the 243s , they will put anything in the keystone on the grd. thanks again
Great shooting! I've got a Rem 700 .243 SVS with a bushnell DOA scope but it's only limited to shoot out to about 600yrds. I didn't think a .243 would carry to 1000? Thanks for the vid. Could you tell me what kind of scope you use?
@AdamB9098 The .243 is a outstanding 1000 yard rifle with the right bullets and barrel twist. For 1000 yard shooting you will want heavy, high BC bullets. the 105,107,115,etc. will get you to a grand no problem. But you will need a 1:8 or faster twist. I have heard that the 105 AMAX will shoot in the 1:9 1/4 twist. My scope was a NightForce NXS
Your buddy musta been out there with a hammer! Haha cool shooting man... I've got an Ackley barrel coming for my 243. Planning on some 95 NBTs and maybe 105 Bergs. Sweet rig you've got there!
@detectiveinspekta Hello. Load info...Lapua brass. Wolf primers. 107 SMK's seated about .010 off the lands over 40.1gr of H4350. Running about 2975fps. I use a hundred yard zero and come ups worked up with the rifle and load. To get to 1000 yards requires around 27 MOA with this load and rifle. Take care
@BgBamBoo Very nice shootn. I shoot a savage I built myself with a CBI varmint bbl in .308 Win. Im running Alliant 2000MR, CCI250s and 175 gr SMKs. I love that 1000 yd 'ping'. Im using a Nikon scope with BDC and a 500 yd zero on the low 'O' come ups and windage calculations made into a range card with hornadys online ballistic calculator using the number produced by my load/rifle.. Thing I like most about the BDC reticles is it eliminates the need for a MOA canted base.
What is the kick of the .243 compared to .308? I have the Tikka t3 lite in .308 and I like it very much, but I would like even less kick. I had a Saiga in.223 but sold it because it wasnt very accurate. But when shooting the .223 caliber it had so little kick, that It felt like a BB gun and I think I could even improve my accuracy on a rifle with such a small kick. So how does the .243 compare to .223 and .308 in terms of kick in your opinion?
@Igoman1984 Install a muzzle brake. A well designed brake will make your .308 seem like a .223. For long range shooting the .243 with the right bullet is far superior ballistics wise.
@BgBamBoo So true. My long range load is 35.1 grns H4895 under a 95 grn Berger VLD also seated .010" off the lands. MV is 3070 FPS out of my Savage model 12 with a 24" heavy tube. FUN load! Great shooting!
@BgBamBoo i hav a tikka t3 in .243, my scope has a few mils or incraments for shooting further out.. its sighted in at 100 yds and i have 3 mils under that.. each mil equals 100 yds.. but my question is just because im shooting 300 yds do i need to use my second mil? or does the .243 shoot flat enough that putting the target inbetween the first and second mil work? ps wen i say first mill i mean the 200 yrd mark
@pyropaintball1313 I can really tell you anything. I have no idea what bullet your using, how fast it is shooting, etc. The best way would be to go to the range and shoot it with the ammo you plan on using at different distances and make a drop card for YOUR rifle and ammo. That way you will know exactly how much you need to hold over for a given distance.
@Igoman1984 It's like comparing a .22 to a .50 MBG!..LOL. The .243 has next to no recoil at all. It's a very small bullet with a medium cartridge so it gives a very small kick but nothing an 8 year old girl couldn't handle with ease ;)
@BgBamBoo Think about it this way. People were making thousand yard shots over a hundred years ago with not nearly the equipment I have now. I put in the time and effort for my success.
@ShootingStuffCanada "i did that with a 299$ savage edge 243, 99$ tasco scope and winchester 90gr"
Can't wait to see the video's, I hope I'm wrong but it sounds of smack imo, just another "talk is cheap" statement. Time will tell, although I doubt any video of significance will be provided. Please prove me wrong and show that the dishwashing youth of today actually will do what they say.
@ShootingStuffCanada Holy F'n SHIT! 1000 yards with a Tasco! Don't get me wrong, i like Savage (own one), but.... uh.... I'm not really buying what you're selling, you know what I'm saying?
@ShootingStuffCanada Any rifle that shoots bullets is potentially capable of hitting targets as far as the bullets will travel. The reason for the expense and experience is to be able to do it repeatedly and on command. Everyone gets lucky at least once in their life... Point being.. If you fire enough bullets at the target ones bound to hit it sooner or later..;)
@jmhudson08 About $4700.00 for the rifle. Add another $1800.00 for the scope. Go to Surgeon Rifles website for more info on the rifles they build and sell. Take care.
@van10nistelrooy Thank you. The new load (one I am working on) looks promising. It is about 175 fps faster then the load I am currently using. So if it works out I will get a little less drop, drift, and flight time. Take care.
Thankyou for the info.

Load details? Did you have to zero on at 1000 or do you use a ballistic computer?
I shoot a 95gr VLD bullet. Measured the speed at around 2900 but it is very variable ~100 spread.
