i have respect for these men. I couldn't possibly hate war any more. I don't care about the average soldier for any country in any war because i love the entire world more than the United States of America. But these men are brave. End of story.
@thatoneguy9112 you have to be a Sgt. in the Marines to go for EOD. you can enlist into eod in all the other branches, but that makes attrition rate high at EOD school because you're right off the street.
@marleynrs8 well last i heard, theyre gonna stop takin guys off the street cause they cant afford to keep sendin kids to a quarter million dollar school only to have them fail out.
@itstony45 sounds like a good idea, but where will the manning come from? its already such an in-demand career field, that i think they need to send the kids through even if only 40% make it through.
@marleynrs8 nobody knows. at least none of us. I'm sure someone up top has an idea. but current thoughts are that we wont be as in demand as we are now in a few years. Iraq is said to be over, and the genius's who run the show think Afghanistan isnt far behind. Once thats done with, EOD wont be in demand nearly as much as it is now. Thats assuming our next war will be against a standing army, not another "War on Terror"
@itstony45 you're EOD? how do you like it? yeah, its too bad people up top think that way, because it'll be right back on the critical list as soon as something else starts up. but maybe it's good for the community if it keeps immature people out
@marleynrs8 I love my job. And keeping the community small is crucial. You have to trust everyone, because you dont want your buddy downrange in 5 years with his life on the line working with someone you don't trust anymore than you would want a guy like that working with you.
@itstony45 is EOD school as hard as statistics show? like for instance what if you spend all the time studying and paying attention, you should do pretty well?
@marleynrs8 cant tell ya man, it all depends on the person. i know some idiots who make it through, and some real genius's who fail out. all depends on how bad you want it, and how hard your willing to work. being able to pick things up quick helps alot too. you thinking about enlisting?
@marleynrs8 Marines are the hardest, cant go EOD until you've been in a few years and make E-5 (Sargent) Army is the best, not to hard, but not to soft either. They still let you go EOD off the street, to my knowledge. They want to change that though so talk to your recruiter. We're also way more laid back than anyone else in the Army. Great place to be is Army EOD. Air Force and Navy take EOD brand new people too. But they are so easy they shouldn't even be considered military. But EOD is EOD.
@itstony45 Regardless of what branch you choose you go to the same school to learn to be an EOD tech. What I'm getting at is the branch itself. Army and Marines deploy the most. Navy EOD and Air Force EOD deploy more than other people in AF or Navy. But if your going to be something else, like a mechanic or what have you, then AF and Navy are kush jobs. Layed back, easy life, hardly deploy, good food, nice rooms. They got it easy. Of course, civilians think military is military but you'll see.
@itstony45 well the thing that attracts me to Navy is their techs get the option to eventually work with SOF, and lots of extra training. but my eyesight is too bad for them, so I was thinking Army is the second best choice. im afraid of failing out and getting some shit job, though. but sometimes you have to take that gamble. does Army do more QRF response or route clearance? whats the "better" mission to have from a tech's standpoint? without violating OPSEC of course.
@marleynrs8 regardless of branch, if your EOD your gonna work with SF guys at some point. as for extra training I've been all over the country for extra training. Navy is however required to jump from planes and helicopters. some of us get that chance, others dont. failing out, yeah, its a risk. but so is crossing the street now a days. the mission depends on where you are. cant say a whole lot of details on specific areas.
@marleynrs8 as for best mission??? route clearance is boring as shit most of the time. the best mission in my mind though is any where everyone comes home alive and intact, and you still get to see a pretty explosion. ;)
@SCAR416 YEah!! That's brass balls, steel nerve and anti-freeze blood man! They hate the US because they can not surpass what simple American service men can do as duty calls. All they are good at are strapping their bodies with explosives then taking the name of their GOD in vain to commit murder on helpless civilians using religion as passport to commit atrocities. GOD bless America!

You tell them you want to work in EOD which stands for Explosive Ordnance Disposal. I've considered this field myself in the US Air Force.
