I was a fundementalist christian for years. Read my bible six hours a day, and was so proud that I threw out Disney movies in favor of my children reading it, too; for shame. Disney has nothing on the damn bible. I gave up holidays and traditions of men to follow god, but all I got was a lower self esteem, and the first suicidal thoughts of my life. There was always something else to give up, and I knew I was going to burn forever. As an agnostic now I still have doubts, at times.

Yes im with you. The way religion is sold is so appealing that you want to believe it. Especially if you were taught from birth (like me) that this is the way life was born. The stories are truly beautiful, as well as unnerving. Realizing that God may not exist is a long process.Coming to this revelation does not happen overnight, It comes with a lot of reading and studying and a free spirited mind.

As a borderline Atheist/ Agnostic. I always question my Atheism considering there's always the possibility of me being wrong. Frankly, I welcome the idea of someone proving me wrong as it pertains to the possibility of the "Unknown". Whether it's God, Allah, or some other form of mystical divine being that MAY exist. But until that happens, and that someone can provide to me real proof that something out there in cosmic universe really exists, I will remain a person w/ doubts.

Me personally, when it comes to the so called debate between evolution & creationism. I'm more inclined to believe the scientist who argues the theory of human evolution than someone who believes that man and dinosaurs co existed 1000 years ago.

And talking with a former atheist I converted into agnostic using science and understanding, he said without religion atheism wouldn't exist and we would all be agnostic by nature.

Yeah i tried this guy named Jesus, he makes the best quesadillas i've ever come across. I mean, this aren't regular quesadillas, these things come really loaded, he uses different types of cheeses, i had never seen that before. He grills the cheese before preparing the guacamole. You dont spend time as a christian. when you become a christian nothing can seperate you from God. You say if there is a God then you are bound to go to hell, well if there is a God than that is your choice if you go to hell. Just because you FEEL that there is no God does not mean that there isnt one. Even christians have doubts it's human nature but it takes faith and prayer. You have the same amount of proof of god coming into your life as an ancient Greek citizen looking towards Mount Olympus, and believing that Zeus is interceding in theirs. Religion is cultural. Sin & Hell, I come to the conclusion that a loving & just god, would never had set us up that way. In other words, how coudl we be blames for Adam & Eve's failure? What's more, how could god hold them responsible for sinning when he put the tree right in front of them, then allowed the serpent to make sure they'd fail!

I was a fundementalist christian for years. Read my bible six hours a day, and was so proud that I threw out Disney movies in favor of my children reading it, too; for shame. Disney has nothing on the damn bible. I gave up holidays and traditions of men to follow god, but all I got was a lower self esteem, and the first suicidal thoughts of my life. There was always something else to give up, and I knew I was going to burn forever. As an agnostic now I still have doubts, at times.

While skepticism requires some sort of rational framework it is not a belief (i.e.faith) system.

That is wrong because atheism is no such thing, but the result of a rational, skeptical outlook (i.e., not an assertion of fact or a value judgment).
You'll be surprised at the no of ppl who are skeptical in everyday life but still hold religious beliefs - see current and past deists, buddhists. Perfectly understandable in the past.

Dromaeosaurids = Members of the velociraptor family. And yeah...they are in fact just a (very deadly) chickens, especially some of the small ones. As for tyranosaurus, he went from a badass killing machine to a glorified hyena.

Yes im with you. The way religion is sold is so appealing that you want to believe it. Especially if you were taught from birth (like me) that this is the way life was born. The stories are truly beautiful, as well as unnerving. Maybe just to be insane, Yaweh wrote some crazy books and gives double torture to those who live by them. There's no reason to believe that an inscrutable, unfathomable entity giving instructions wants those instructions followed. Even if God is real, that's no reason to do or not do any specific action or ever not fear hell.

@supersmash43 The "hence it is mythology" at the end would take a small bit of offence to someone, but most people who try to convert to you try to convert you even if offended. Just saying- "I'm an atheist and have no intentions on converting" would all to be needed. And talking with a former atheist I converted into agnostic using science and understanding, he said without religion atheism wouldn't exist and we would all be agnostic by nature.

Ok, so we generally now call ancient Egyptian and other people's religions' mythogies. Yet we (excluding non-believers like me) are greatly offended whenever somebody calls our religion mythology. Yeah i tried this guy named Jesus, he makes the best quesadillas i've ever come across. I mean, this aren't regular quesadillas, these things come really loaded, he uses different types of cheeses, i had never seen that before. He grills the cheese before preparing the guacamole. He doesn't use sour cream, instead he uses a strange sauce that is only prepared in certain parts of Mexico. Anyways, he told me he got the recipe from his grandmother Consuelo. Best food in San Diego.

You dont spend time as a christian. when you become a christian nothing can seperate you from God. You say if there is a God then you are bound to go to hell, well if there is a God than that is your choice if you go to hell. Just because you FEEL that there is no God does not mean that there isnt one. Even christians have doubts it's human nature but it takes faith and prayer. I think if we have faith in God and turn the other way towards the world, it is very selfish. thats my two cents worth

It has been proven by Professor Fred Hoyle, the man who coined the phrase the big bang and who led to the Anthropic Principle that shows all life comes from carbon from the Sun and therefore could not have begun on Earth as evolution in every carnation describes. No human being could come up with this concept of Jesus dying for our sins...forgiveness...all of it. God is real and so is Satan. when it gets down to it. They appear completely ridiculous to those like myself who do not believe because they try so hard to "save us" from an imaginary fate. It would be like me begging you to pray to the purple unicorn under the sea because if you don't you'll be eaten by the Great Deku tree. My intentions would be good but unnecessary. As an educator I try to save people from ignorance and dark age superstitions.

You have the same amount of proof of god coming into your life as an ancient Greek citizen looking towards Mount Olympus, and believing that Zeus is interceding in theirs. Religion is cultural. If you were born in Iraq, you'd be praising the wonders of Allah like every other Muslim that believes in their faith as strongly as you believe on yours.

glad to see another non-white atheist. Was starting to get worried. Only found one other on here. I was raised in a Catholic/Baptist family myself. I was a Xian for most of my life. I've had those same questions and doubts that would surface occasionally. But when I really study the question of Orig. Sin & Hell, I come to the conclusion that a loving & just god, would never had set us up that way. In other words, how coudl we be blames for Adam & Eve's failure? What's more, how could god hold them responsible for sinning when he put the tree right in front of them, then allowed the serpent to make sure they'd fail!
