@silvermane1516 I enjoyed the way he seamlessly worked in the fact that they could still be friends and assured her that the alimony check would show up on time. Gotta love a guy covering all of his bases in a break-up tune that the whole crowd can sing along with the chorus to.
Yep...when you get through telling em' It don't hurt now..do like Teddy Pendergrass again , but this time you cap it off with this one: "I don't love you anymore!" Case we can't work it out anymore...in fact we can only be friends....LOL
I remember when this song was played on the radio all of the time back in the 70s.
I am not sure but I think this song was originally recorded when he was with Harold Melvin and the Blue Notes and then re-released when Teddy became a solo artist.
Spending the day supposedly working. Started Teddy's music and now I can't pay attention to my job. Pretty funny watching a 68 year old woman at her desk jamming away. RIP Teddy<3
When this first came out you should have seen all the record stores selling this. The 45s, 33s, and the disco version sold out quickly. Thank God for cassettes tape in which I copied it from a friend.
Definitely the Guy's tell it like it is song, but funky as hale! People forget Teddy was a Drummer b4 going lead with The Bluenotes. I believe he played the drums on this one too. One of my faves.
I agree great break-up song, the next Teddy song would be "GET UP GET DOWN GET FUNKY GET LOOSE. Once you're over the heart ache that song will get you on the road to recovery. LOL
@ttmistress 'Sorry to hear that. 'Hope you workin' it out. I got 21 yrs under my belt with the wifey and I know it's been hard on both of us at times. God bless.
Love it!

That horn at the beginnin sounds like the beginning of Elvis's live Vegas performances. Teddy was the true King of R&B alongside Marvin Gaye.
