hi. all 3 ports are open which means your ultra is in 20hz tune which means anything below 20hz is chopped off by your sub's built in hp filter to protect the driver
this pulse scene goes down into the single digits which means that when that pulse wave goes down low, you're not experiencing the true effect at all
to experience this scene properly at reference levels, you need about 4 ultra's in 10hz tune or 8 of them in sealed mode
@TheAudioCritic Wow, sounds like you were on the internet within minutes registering your disgust throughout the world. Anyway that is completely wrong. Go to SVS's page, under info about PB13 Ultra, there is a graph that shows the SPL testing at the various tunings. 20Hz simply means the tuning is centered at that frequency for the highest output. You can still get 80dB min. at 15Hz with that setting, but you'll get more output there with lower tuning (87+ dB). Great try though!
It's likely a cabinet or something in their house that hasn't been properly tied down/restrained. Hearing rattling like that really takes the viewer out of the movie experience, so it SHOULD be addressed..
My friend had one then replaced it with a custom cabinet built locally by a furniture maker, a JL 13W7 and a Velodyne SC-1250 amp. It was way better and had automatic tuning. Cost less and he didn't have to lift a finger.
you're rigt florida995..there is nothing wrong with the sub..PB13 ultra is the pinnacle of SVS and it should work very fine as their other poplar subwoofers..I own a PB12 plus and i gotta tell you that it produces the lowest bass i've ever heard in my life..it cud hit DOWN TO 12 Hz!!!!! it's just scary mayn...
This part is insane on my HSU VTF-3 MK3 w/ Turbo sub, Try resting the back of your head against a wall as this plays.

sodiumwinter1, your sunfire is no comparison to the pb-13 ultra, you should get one, for most humans, only one is enough

Try putting that thing an Aurelex isolating pad. It will help control the rattles of things around the room. It'll also raise it by 1-2 inches
mkygod 2 years ago
how many watts is that sub? I have a sunfire that rattles my whole room.
sodiumwinter 2 years ago
750 watts I think. Bash amp. =)

nice how much did it set you back? i was thinking of getting a 2nd sub and have this shortlisted.

@sodiumwinter1
$1699ea, duals are the way to go, evens out the room response. With a single I had peaks, valleys and nulls. All eliminated with twins.

I'm sure you may already know but for others, placement also plays a role.

Is that rattle part of the movie or is it coming from the subwoofer?

if you can open up the amp and check if any of wires are rubbing against the speaker
gixxerjoey 3 years ago
The rattling is probably from the room, not the ports. This is an extremely capable sub, worth every bit of $3k or more.
florida995 4 years ago
There is an issue with the sub that has been found during the Pulse scene. Read about it on AVSforum.
