Damn right Kashuad17! Joe Gibbs is 1 step from God for Skins fans. To get to 1 SB is a fantastic achievement for any head coach. To do it 3 times shows the man's skill! His 2nd innings showed us Skins some of the best advances since 1992. They did NOTHING until he came back and he showed us the playoffs again. REDSKINS RULE! HAIL SKINS! I may be English, but I BLEED Burgundy & Gold. I'm looking forward to my 26th season as a skins fan....
lets not forget character..belichick had an affair with a married woman..shoved a photogapher..shoved a camera man..and ran up the score in 2007..the 98 vikings and the 83 redskins who held the recoed for most points in a nfl season NEVER went for it on 4th down with a 20 point lead int the 4th quarter with 4 min to play..belichick did....how many more points would the 83 skins had scored had they pulled that crapped??? lets not 4get da pats won all 3 SBs by a fieldgoal..
Its amazing what gibbs accomplished when he came back. The team he inherited was in shambles and his salary cap was atrocious. Gibbs left a much better team for zorn than he received.
that one more loss the skins had in 91???? last game of the season they had a 17 point lead in the 4th quarter and took their startes out to rest and not get hurt...eagles came back and won the game..
Shouldn't have had their starters in at all then. There are no asterisks next to their 1991 record. They were 17-2. Perhaps the most impressive thing about the 1984 niners were their playoff wins. They crushed the giants 21-10 and then shut out the bears 23-0. Those 2 teams just coincidentally would go on to win the next 2 super bowls. Walsh was prophetic when he said those teams are the teams of the future. And then Marino and the fins with what even today you'd have to call one of the best O
are you forgeting the skins offensive line in 91..9 sacks given up the whole season..and duper and clayton faster than clark and sanders..what the hell have you been smokin?? wilbur marshall was a tackling machine...and darell green would have been on rice like glue..way to many weapons for the niners to stop..byner goes down send in ervins..than throw in gerald riggs for good measure..monk clark and sanders only wr's in history with 1000 yards in the same season..lol..
Not smoking anything. The 84 dolphins scored 513 points in the regular season while the 91 skins scored 485. The skins though were sounder on D, giving up 224 while the fins gave up 298. The other impressive thing about the 91 skins was their D, giving up just 224, even 3 fewer than the 84 niners did. Overall, looking at the entire season + playoffs point differential, 84 niners were +304, the 91 skins were +322. But the skins did lose one more game.
I think the defense would match up well to any Niner team and our offense would be matched up well to your defenses as well.
We all forget about the 1983 Redskins who didn't win the Super Bowl yes, but scored 541 points, lost just 2 games, but only by 1 point each, had John Riggins, a record breaking running back with 24 rushing touchdowns, Theismann being the Pro Bowl MVP in an NFC rout and a ton of other Pro Bowlers.
the 89 niners had one thing 84 didnt: jerry rice. Of course walsh wasnt their coach in 89 either. The 89 niners tore thru the playoffs winning their 3 games by a combined 100 points, something I doubt we will see topped anytime soon. I just favor the 84 team because of walsh and the one less loss. Plus the dolphins in the SB were by far a much tougher opponent than elway and the broncos.
who put up 485 points in 1991, more than any other Niner team {including super bowl teams} ever put up, and Wilbur Marshall, as mentioned, a tackling machine. I agree that the 89' Niners were a great team, but I have always thought the 84' Niners were the better team. Rice did play in 89' but the one less loss and doing everything done in 89' without him in 84' over the Dolphins is why I would favor the 84' team.
I just think the Redskins had so many different weapons, but Walsh was tricky.
Actually you arent exactly right about the 1991 skins. Great offense no doubt, but a team we havent even been discussing here, the 1994 niners:
1994 Super Bowl Champions
Scored 505 points (31.6/g), 1st of 28 in the NFL.
Plus they scored at least 38 in each playoff game. I discount them though because no walsh and 3 losses, inlcuding a rather ugly 8-40 loss at home to the eagles.
Also, the one loss the 84 niners had was to the steelers, at least a team that made the AFC title game.
Oh yeah I forgot about the 94' Niners my bad. Still, 485 is a lot, but true that we did take our starters out in the final game of the season up 17 on the Eagles and had won 3 shutout games 34-0, 45-0 and 23-0, but didn't score anymore. They still finished first in scoring in the NFL. They also in the playoffs allowed only 41 combined points, while the 1994 Niners allowed 69, but didn't run up the offensive score because there was no need. Their two losses also were by a combined 5 points
Anf the Niners did lose to the AFC Title Steelers which proved they were good, but the Redskins also lost to 2 winning teams in the playoff Cowboys and 10-6 Eagles. The 1994 Niners did have to go without Walsh and had that bad loss, but Seifert had proved he could coach by winning a Super Bowl as a head coach and assisstant coach, not forgetting the NFC Championship games he led them too.
I actually don't know all these teams would be matched up well.

your right I guess...gibbs wouldnt have won anymore superbowls after the age of 52 when he retired in 1993..he would have coached 12 more years and retired at 64 with nothing more than a 12 year drought..even though he went to 4 in his firat 11 years...your absolutly right...
Well he had 0 super bowl wins in his last 5 seasons there: 92, and then 04-07, so yes you are right - I am right. The skins were pitiful from 93 thru the rest of the decade. Gibbs wouldnt have changed things enough to the point the would be winning super bowls.
you forgot to mention 1987 49ers 13-2 but couldnt beat the vikings at home in the playoffs..so the skins had to do what the 9ers couldnt...then they go out and break pretty much every super bowl record ever against the broncos...oh and i'll bet my money that dexter manley would kick the living shit out of charles haley any day of the week...
49ers were just overconfident in 87. And yeah you had a nice game against the broncos setting all kind of records....until the 9ers dismantled the broncos by 13 more than you did in the 90 SB! You never went 18-1 like the niners. You havent won 5 sbs which walsh was responsible for either directly or indirectly.
Man you just never give up do you. The reason the skins didnt make the playoffs in 85 was they were reamed at home by the niners 8-35!!!! You think making one more super bowl makes him a better coach? By that logic, Marv Levy is a better coach than Walsh. Ignore the coaching tree, the genius draft picks, and how his offense has been used everywhere. Nice logic, dude.
Yeah the niners had a rough period from 85-87, losing 3 playoff games all in blowout fashion. But better to be there than not.
oh and one other thing...Yeah the niners had a rough period from 85-87, losing 3 playoff games all in blowout fashion. But better to be there than not..thats exactly what you said...than since gibbs was 3-1 and walsh 3-0 in superbowls....than Gibbs is superior.....
Being in the super bowl or not is different from being in the playoffs or not. Walsh never lost a SB and you are silly if you think had he not retired after 88 he wouldnt be 4-0. A 38-9 thumping in 1984 when you are favored. Nice job.
So teams lose Super Bowl and they lost bad, like the Dolphins before 72' lost 24-3 to Dallas and some coaches have lost 3 Super Bowls or even none and been seen as great, and he could be compared by winning with 3 different quarterbacks in 3 Super Bowls. The 1991 skins was an example of a team he coached that could hang with the 1984 Niners.
The 91 skins were a great team. Pretty balance offense. I still think the 49ers hall of fame secondary (wright, Lott, et al) would have shut them down much like they did the dolphins in the 85 SB. 49ers may not have beaten the skins by 22 because the skins had a more balanced offense but I do think the 84 niners would have beaten the 91 skins by maybe 10-14 points. Come on, Mark Rypien vs Joe Montana??
oh yeah lott and wright would have just shut down art monk,,gary clark,,and ricky sanders..right up until the time that gerald riggs would go up and put ronnie lott on his ass and on the sidelines...and lets not even mention what wilbur marshall would have done to that niner offense...
The 1984 dolphins had a better receiving corps than the 91 skins. Check out how that one turned out for them. And they too went 14-2 in the regular season.
As I said, the 91 skins would have been tougher due to their better running game and D, but if that game is played anywhere outside DC, the skins go down by 14.
I think hall of famer Art Monk and Pro Bowler Gary Clark had speed and size to burn their secondary because they did. Montana was 1-1 against the Redskins so it could go either way, and they did shut down the Dolphins, but the 91 skins also had a mixture of great runners like Ernest Byner, Ricky Ervins and Gerald Riggs. The 84 Niners were great but I think the 1991 skins could have gotten won. They had a great defense but the Redskins had a complex offense.
The Art Monk of 1991 wasnt the art monk of 1984. Montana was better than 1-1 against the skins. He beat them in 81, lost in the playoffs in 83 (very controversial though), beat them in the regular season in 84 and 85, lost in the regular season in 86, and won in the regular season in 88 and beat them in the playoffs in 90. Thats alot better than 1-1.
Some say the 84 niners, despite finishing 18-1, werent the greatest niner team. Some say the 89 team was better because despite finishing 17-2....
Still, Monk was a great target and put up good numbers then, like Clark, and both still had Pro Bowl talent. I know he beat them more than once but I was talking playoffs and he was 1-1 against them, but most of the years he beat them, the Redskins weren't good. Accept for 1984 and 1986, there weren't any great Redskin teams he beat. Plus like that guy said up there, you talk probably of one of the best offensive lines ever, Darrell Green a Hall of famer on Rice a Hall of famer, our offense
oh almost forgot your right gibbs didnt make the playoffs in 85 he went 10-6..the 49ers went 10-6 in 85 and 86 and made the playoffs...WHY???? cause their division SUCKED!!!!! and what did they do in the playoffs in 85 and 86 and 87...lets see...they went 0-3....LOL.....
2 best teams of all time are the 18-1 1984 niners who routed a miami team that in their season opender went into washington and scalped the skins 35-17. 2nd best is the 89 49ers who lost one more game than the 84 team but won their 3 playoff games by a combined 100 points. Had walsh not retired after 88, he would be 4-0 in super bowls. As it is, his 3-0 is still better than gibb's 3-1. And u ignore the fact the niners were horrible when walsh took over in 79 while the skins were at least decent.
Yeah but what happened to the 83 skins in the super bowl? Didnt just lose, but got blown out! Turned on their ears! Walsh never lost a super bowl. Not even Bellichick can say that. 84 49ers didnt play in the nfc east but beat every team in that division except the cowboys who they didnt play. 89 49ers went 14-2 and played the rams for the nfc title. The rams who by the way destroyed in the playoffs the cowboys of the "allegedly" superior nfc east twice in 3 years (83,85). You're the delusional 1
Id rather go 3-1 in the big game than 3-0...at least he made it to a 4th game...and answer the question...why was he 33 games over 500 while gibbs was 60 games over 500 with a higher winning percentage??????
Again, walsh coached 10 years, 79-88. Gibbs coached 81-92 (12 years) plus another 4 (04-07) so gibbs went to the SB 4 out of 16 times (25%) while walsh went 3/10 (30%). So as always, gibbs loses to walsh. And had walsh not retired after 88, he would have gone 4/11 and been 4-0. Walsh drafted rice and montana when few else would even give them a 2nd look. His coaching tree is spread all over. His offense is copied everywhere. Sorry gibbs was a great coach but out of his depth compared to walsh.
I mention walsh's legacy like coaching tree and the brilliance to draft one of the qbs ever and probably the greatest receiver ever and his offense and all you can talk about is games over .500? Ok how about this: Walsh made the playoffs his last SIX years (83-88) while gibbs missed them 2 of those years, 85 and 88. How about THAT??????
gibbs went 10-6 in 85 and 7-9 in 88 his only losing season in 12 years in his first stint..and if gibbs had not retired in 93 who knows how many more superbowls he could have won...and the skins had not made the playoffs the previous five years before Gibbs got there..more wins, higher winning%, more superbowl appereances, and more games over 500..conclusion...BETTER COACH!!!!!!
oh and the 85 bears were the best ever...Im not biased...but second was the 91 skins who were the most balanced team ever...led the league in avg yards against on passing defense and avg yards a pass on offense..3 out of there first 4 games were shutouts...lost two games that year ..one was a close game to the boys who would win the next two SBs and the other the last game of the season against the eagles had a 17 point lead in the 4th and took all there starters out to rest and lost.
Once again you show you dont know much. The 85 bears were a great team, but dont you realize they had EIGHT automatic wins with that shitty nfc central? Shit the 86 giants were a better team than the 85 bears, as were the 84 and 89 49ers.
Neither of those teams were as good as either the 84 or 89 49ers. 84 niners beat the next 2 super bowl winners in the playoffs, then crushing one of the most explosive offenses of all time in the 84 dolphins. All the 89 49ers did was go 14-2 and won their 3 playoff games by a cumulative 100 points. NOBODY WILL EVER MATCH OR TOP THAT.
Not better than Bill Walsh. How anybody can type that with a straight face is hard to fathom. Walsh won 3 super bowls and set the path for the 49ers to win 2 more (young, rice, etc).
His time-out gaffe was incredible. But I will admit overall Gibbs is a great coach.
not better than walsh...how many super bowls did walsh win without a qb named montana..zero..gibbs three superbowls 3 different qb's...plus the nfc west sucked when walsh coached...if they played in the nfc east they would not have won as many games...the 49ers won 5 more regular season games than the skins did in the 80's and their division sucked..the rams the falcons and the aints..i mean the saints..try going up aginst the cowboys,,giant and eagles in the 80s..walsh wont win as much my frien
You cant blame walsh for being the genius he was for drafting some skinny kid from ND. Do you think Bill Bellichick should start another qb to prove he is a great coach? How many super bowls did Dan Reeves with with Elway and then how many did Shanahan win? It is not walsh's fault he found montana or that he retired when the niners were at their peak. This man could have EASILY won 5 super bowls. Again, both coaches are great, walsh is just better, and never lost a super bowl, esp not 9-38.
you failed to mention that pussy division they played in...try going 14 -2 in the nfc east in the 80s....I can only imagine how many games the skins would have won playing in the nfc west back then..and oh maybe they did lose 38-9 in the sb in 84...but who did they beat in the nfc championship that year to get there....those wussy 49ers....
That "pussy division" you refer to...well lets see, I am pretty sure the rams whipped the cowboys twice in 3 years in the playoffs. Saints were 12-3 in 1987. The NFC east was good with Dal, Wash, and NYG but Dal started sucking starting in 86. Oh yeah that nfc championship was a fraud with those phantom PI calls. At least the 49ers would have given th e raiders a game. Oh and the the niners went 18-1 the next year. Too bad the skins didnt show up, it would have been alot worse than 24-21.
I can only imagine what gibbs record would have been had he got to play the rams..saints and falcons 6 times a season...and phantom pi calls look when the 49ers played the skins in jan 91..every time green touch rice with a finger nail the flags would fly..monk would go down the field and have two guys mugging him and no flags..
Would they have gone 15-1? Did the skins EVER go 15-1? The rams were a perennial playoff team from 83-89, knocking the cowboys of that awesome nfc east out twice in that span. That means HALF the nfc west had playoff teams in it for most of those years. In 1984, the niners beat every nfc east team in the regular season except the cowboys, who were lucky enough not to have to play them. Then they beat the giants in the playoffs and then the bears who beat...hold on.....YOU in the playoffs.
Futhermore, what are you talking about in 91? The niners clobbered you 28-10, so let's say you were robbed of 2 tds and a FG in that game due to these "bad calls" - you still would have lost. Hardly a comparison with the 84 nfc title game.
we were up 21-0 the 84 nfc title game in the 3rd quater...so how were the 49ers..robbed...oh and who beat the 86 and 87 bears in the playoffs IN chicago????
And the 49ers then outscored you 21-0 on you own home field, then won with the gift from the refs.
The niners never lost to the bears in the playoffs under walsh, outscoring them 51-3 in 2 nfc title games, including the 28-3 win in Chicago in 1988 (jan 89). So I wouldn't be bragging about that.
the bears werent defending sb champs in 88..in 86 they were...the 83 skins lost 2 games in the reg season both by a 1 point each..they were the highest scoring team in nfl history that year and held that record for 15 years. beat the rams 51-7 in playoffs that year who beat the 49ers that season..gibbs had a higher winning% than walsh and was 60 games over 500..walsh was 33 games over..come on now..plus if you think the NFC west was tougher than the east than your living in FANTASTY LAND DUDE.
I'm going to miss him on the sidelines. It was a dream come true when he came back. Now I have to live without ever seeing him coach the Redskins again. :( His career will always be celebrated and looked back with joyful nostalgic eyes. The good thing is we can still learn from him as he continues his public life in Nascar.

Yeah the niners had a rough period from 85-87, losing 3 playoff games all in blowout fashion. But better to be there than not.
rawn4203 3 years ago
oh and one other thing...Yeah the niners had a rough period from 85-87, losing 3 playoff games all in blowout fashion. But better to be there than not..thats exactly what you said...than since gibbs was 3-1 and walsh 3-0 in superbowls....than Gibbs is superior.....
collin355 3 years ago
Being in the super bowl or not is different from being in the playoffs or not. Walsh never lost a SB and you are silly if you think had he not retired after 88 he wouldnt be 4-0. A 38-9 thumping in 1984 when you are favored. Nice job.
rawn4203 3 years ago
and joe gibbs was 52 when he retired in 1993...how many more superbowls would he had won if he retired at 65 instead of 52...NUFF SAID!!!!
collin355 3 years ago
So teams lose Super Bowl and they lost bad, like the Dolphins before 72' lost 24-3 to Dallas and some coaches have lost 3 Super Bowls or even none and been seen as great, and he could be compared by winning with 3 different quarterbacks in 3 Super Bowls. The 1991 skins was an example of a team he coached that could hang with the 1984 Niners.
daFBtigga136 3 years ago
The 91 skins were a great team. Pretty balance offense. I still think the 49ers hall of fame secondary (wright, Lott, et al) would have shut them down much like they did the dolphins in the 85 SB. 49ers may not have beaten the skins by 22 because the skins had a more balanced offense but I do think the 84 niners would have beaten the 91 skins by maybe 10-14 points. Come on, Mark Rypien vs Joe Montana??
rawn4203 3 years ago
oh yeah lott and wright would have just shut down art monk,,gary clark,,and ricky sanders..right up until the time that gerald riggs would go up and put ronnie lott on his ass and on the sidelines...and lets not even mention what wilbur marshall would have done to that niner offense...
collin355 3 years ago
The 1984 dolphins had a better receiving corps than the 91 skins. Check out how that one turned out for them. And they too went 14-2 in the regular season.
As I said, the 91 skins would have been tougher due to their better running game and D, but if that game is played anywhere outside DC, the skins go down by 14.
rawn4203 3 years ago
I think hall of famer Art Monk and Pro Bowler Gary Clark had speed and size to burn their secondary because they did. Montana was 1-1 against the Redskins so it could go either way, and they did shut down the Dolphins, but the 91 skins also had a mixture of great runners like Ernest Byner, Ricky Ervins and Gerald Riggs. The 84 Niners were great but I think the 1991 skins could have gotten won. They had a great defense but the Redskins had a complex offense.
daFBtigga136 3 years ago
The Art Monk of 1991 wasnt the art monk of 1984. Montana was better than 1-1 against the skins. He beat them in 81, lost in the playoffs in 83 (very controversial though), beat them in the regular season in 84 and 85, lost in the regular season in 86, and won in the regular season in 88 and beat them in the playoffs in 90. Thats alot better than 1-1.
Some say the 84 niners, despite finishing 18-1, werent the greatest niner team. Some say the 89 team was better because despite finishing 17-2....
rawn4203 3 years ago
Still, Monk was a great target and put up good numbers then, like Clark, and both still had Pro Bowl talent. I know he beat them more than once but I was talking playoffs and he was 1-1 against them, but most of the years he beat them, the Redskins weren't good. Accept for 1984 and 1986, there weren't any great Redskin teams he beat. Plus like that guy said up there, you talk probably of one of the best offensive lines ever, Darrell Green a Hall of famer on Rice a Hall of famer, our offense
daFBtigga136 3 years ago
oh almost forgot your right gibbs didnt make the playoffs in 85 he went 10-6..the 49ers went 10-6 in 85 and 86 and made the playoffs...WHY???? cause their division SUCKED!!!!! and what did they do in the playoffs in 85 and 86 and 87...lets see...they went 0-3....LOL.....

Joe Gibbs is the best coach ever!!!!
toolsdoorway 3 years ago
2 best teams of all time are the 18-1 1984 niners who routed a miami team that in their season opender went into washington and scalped the skins 35-17. 2nd best is the 89 49ers who lost one more game than the 84 team but won their 3 playoff games by a combined 100 points. Had walsh not retired after 88, he would be 4-0 in super bowls. As it is, his 3-0 is still better than gibb's 3-1. And u ignore the fact the niners were horrible when walsh took over in 79 while the skins were at least decent.
rawn4203 3 years ago
Yeah but what happened to the 83 skins in the super bowl? Didnt just lose, but got blown out! Turned on their ears! Walsh never lost a super bowl. Not even Bellichick can say that. 84 49ers didnt play in the nfc east but beat every team in that division except the cowboys who they didnt play. 89 49ers went 14-2 and played the rams for the nfc title. The rams who by the way destroyed in the playoffs the cowboys of the "allegedly" superior nfc east twice in 3 years (83,85). You're the delusional 1
rawn4203 3 years ago
Id rather go 3-1 in the big game than 3-0...at least he made it to a 4th game...and answer the question...why was he 33 games over 500 while gibbs was 60 games over 500 with a higher winning percentage??????
collin355 3 years ago
Again, walsh coached 10 years, 79-88. Gibbs coached 81-92 (12 years) plus another 4 (04-07) so gibbs went to the SB 4 out of 16 times (25%) while walsh went 3/10 (30%). So as always, gibbs loses to walsh. And had walsh not retired after 88, he would have gone 4/11 and been 4-0. Walsh drafted rice and montana when few else would even give them a 2nd look. His coaching tree is spread all over. His offense is copied everywhere. Sorry gibbs was a great coach but out of his depth compared to walsh.
rawn4203 3 years ago
once again ANSWER THE QUESTION!!! why was gibbs 60 games over 500 when walsh was 33 games over 500....BIG DIFFERENCE!!!!!
collin355 3 years ago
I mention walsh's legacy like coaching tree and the brilliance to draft one of the qbs ever and probably the greatest receiver ever and his offense and all you can talk about is games over .500? Ok how about this: Walsh made the playoffs his last SIX years (83-88) while gibbs missed them 2 of those years, 85 and 88. How about THAT??????
rawn4203 3 years ago
gibbs went 10-6 in 85 and 7-9 in 88 his only losing season in 12 years in his first stint..and if gibbs had not retired in 93 who knows how many more superbowls he could have won...and the skins had not made the playoffs the previous five years before Gibbs got there..more wins, higher winning%, more superbowl appereances, and more games over 500..conclusion...BETTER COACH!!!!!!
collin355 3 years ago
oh and the 85 bears were the best ever...Im not biased...but second was the 91 skins who were the most balanced team ever...led the league in avg yards against on passing defense and avg yards a pass on offense..3 out of there first 4 games were shutouts...lost two games that year ..one was a close game to the boys who would win the next two SBs and the other the last game of the season against the eagles had a 17 point lead in the 4th and took all there starters out to rest and lost.
collin355 3 years ago
Once again you show you dont know much. The 85 bears were a great team, but dont you realize they had EIGHT automatic wins with that shitty nfc central? Shit the 86 giants were a better team than the 85 bears, as were the 84 and 89 49ers.
rawn4203 3 years ago
Neither of those teams were as good as either the 84 or 89 49ers. 84 niners beat the next 2 super bowl winners in the playoffs, then crushing one of the most explosive offenses of all time in the 84 dolphins. All the 89 49ers did was go 14-2 and won their 3 playoff games by a cumulative 100 points. NOBODY WILL EVER MATCH OR TOP THAT.
rawn4203 3 years ago
I love the redskins and you love the 49ers but if you dont admit the 85 bears were the best SINGLE SEASON team ever than your not making sense....
collin355 3 years ago
Not better than Bill Walsh. How anybody can type that with a straight face is hard to fathom. Walsh won 3 super bowls and set the path for the 49ers to win 2 more (young, rice, etc).
His time-out gaffe was incredible. But I will admit overall Gibbs is a great coach.
rawn4203 3 years ago
not better than walsh...how many super bowls did walsh win without a qb named montana..zero..gibbs three superbowls 3 different qb's...plus the nfc west sucked when walsh coached...if they played in the nfc east they would not have won as many games...the 49ers won 5 more regular season games than the skins did in the 80's and their division sucked..the rams the falcons and the aints..i mean the saints..try going up aginst the cowboys,,giant and eagles in the 80s..walsh wont win as much my frien
collin355 3 years ago
You cant blame walsh for being the genius he was for drafting some skinny kid from ND. Do you think Bill Bellichick should start another qb to prove he is a great coach? How many super bowls did Dan Reeves with with Elway and then how many did Shanahan win? It is not walsh's fault he found montana or that he retired when the niners were at their peak. This man could have EASILY won 5 super bowls. Again, both coaches are great, walsh is just better, and never lost a super bowl, esp not 9-38.
rawn4203 3 years ago
you failed to mention that pussy division they played in...try going 14 -2 in the nfc east in the 80s....I can only imagine how many games the skins would have won playing in the nfc west back then..and oh maybe they did lose 38-9 in the sb in 84...but who did they beat in the nfc championship that year to get there....those wussy 49ers....
collin355 3 years ago
That "pussy division" you refer to...well lets see, I am pretty sure the rams whipped the cowboys twice in 3 years in the playoffs. Saints were 12-3 in 1987. The NFC east was good with Dal, Wash, and NYG but Dal started sucking starting in 86. Oh yeah that nfc championship was a fraud with those phantom PI calls. At least the 49ers would have given th e raiders a game. Oh and the the niners went 18-1 the next year. Too bad the skins didnt show up, it would have been alot worse than 24-21.
rawn4203 3 years ago
I can only imagine what gibbs record would have been had he got to play the rams..saints and falcons 6 times a season...and phantom pi calls look when the 49ers played the skins in jan 91..every time green touch rice with a finger nail the flags would fly..monk would go down the field and have two guys mugging him and no flags..
collin355 3 years ago
Would they have gone 15-1? Did the skins EVER go 15-1? The rams were a perennial playoff team from 83-89, knocking the cowboys of that awesome nfc east out twice in that span. That means HALF the nfc west had playoff teams in it for most of those years. In 1984, the niners beat every nfc east team in the regular season except the cowboys, who were lucky enough not to have to play them. Then they beat the giants in the playoffs and then the bears who beat...hold on.....YOU in the playoffs.
rawn4203 3 years ago
Futhermore, what are you talking about in 91? The niners clobbered you 28-10, so let's say you were robbed of 2 tds and a FG in that game due to these "bad calls" - you still would have lost. Hardly a comparison with the 84 nfc title game.
rawn4203 3 years ago
we were up 21-0 the 84 nfc title game in the 3rd quater...so how were the 49ers..robbed...oh and who beat the 86 and 87 bears in the playoffs IN chicago????
collin355 3 years ago
And the 49ers then outscored you 21-0 on you own home field, then won with the gift from the refs.
The niners never lost to the bears in the playoffs under walsh, outscoring them 51-3 in 2 nfc title games, including the 28-3 win in Chicago in 1988 (jan 89). So I wouldn't be bragging about that.
rawn4203 3 years ago
the bears werent defending sb champs in 88..in 86 they were...the 83 skins lost 2 games in the reg season both by a 1 point each..they were the highest scoring team in nfl history that year and held that record for 15 years. beat the rams 51-7 in playoffs that year who beat the 49ers that season..gibbs had a higher winning% than walsh and was 60 games over 500..walsh was 33 games over..come on now..plus if you think the NFC west was tougher than the east than your living in FANTASTY LAND DUDE.

Joe Gibbs is a good man we can all learn from.
