Actually, I literally grew up in radio stations. My father was voice talent at some of the biggest stations in Houston, TX in the 70s. I guess I inherited a bit of the old man's purr.
You are really good at this. Linda Ellerby pops into my mind, but it's probably just your glasses. I wonder what your future will be on the internet? I think you a talent. Good luck.
ok, you lived over by the Pasadena town square. My Dad used to work in that tall building by the post office back before the mall was built. You looked kind of familiar so I thought it would be wild if we were in the same grade school...I'm just two years older than you.
Great vid Tushy! Can i identify or what. I've been collecting vinyl for many years, albums and 45's- have some going back to the late 50's and inherited dad's Mrs Mills records (nobody plays the ivories like Mrs Mills). Also inherited his Spike Jones and his wacky wacketeers records(oddball musical humour) There are a few Spike Jones vids posted on YT that i've favourited. Looking forward to hearing the Dave Brubeck and Mancini stuff in particular (gotta be peter gunn) :)
I LOVE this video, love the stories from the radio stations and especially can relate to scrounging thru boxes in search of the amazing.. 'cause most people won't, which is why most people miss it.
This should be an interesting series. I miss vinyl. I miss the big, easy-to-read album covers with art and photos you could actually see and appreciate.
I love to listen to the great Billie Holiday, too. I love it more when I'm listening to her on vinyl.
Maybe I should try to find my 45s and play them for everyone. I had some stuff of hers in MP3 format but I seem to of lost them. Bet I can come up with something. :D
I still have some vinyl, some of it's rare. My turntable still works, and there's a new stylus in the cartridge. What to play? I still love your videos!
Sadly I don't play mine much at all anymore. I'm not sure why.
If I ever win a million dollars I'm going to invest in one of the laser record players. Looks like a giant dvd player but for records... no needles... no wear. *sigh - dream*
I used to work at the Pacifica station--KFPF--in Los Angeles. We had AP AND Reuters teletypes. Every once in a while an important story would come down the pike, and the machines would go "ding ding ding!" And a classical music library to beat the band. I used to love cutting 1/4 inch tape with nothing but my fingers and a razor blade. I was there almost 24 hours a day--it was all I wanted to do for about 3 years.
Ahh YES... the dinging! I'd forgotten the dinging! And when it happened some DJ would come flying around the corner to retrieve the story!
I miss all of that so much some days.
Dad worked at talk radio, classical and easy listening stations around Houston for nearly two decades. The pay was awful but he got some fame and I got some neat childhood memories. :)
I'll probably do a vid about Old Time Radio some day. There are a lot of places around the web where you can listen to them for free and if you use a file sharing program like Limewire then you can often find them there and D/L them.
It's amazing how well the comedy still holds up, altho the horror and drama is often silly by today's standard.
You are too cute! I wish I had the records I had when I was a kid, nothing I'm sure compared to your collection, but fun no less. I love your vids, you are so kewl! xoxoxo
I have one record,of course our record player died a while ago.lol.

You've got a nice, sultry lady-voice. You should be a DJ! Or in the radio at least!

I own a Spike Jones record too but it's not an oldie... it's a "best of" issued in the 70s I think.
There's just something about the pop and ticks with vinyl that feel comforting. Love the liner notes and big pictures too. :)

you voice reminds me so much of being read books while in the classrooms at school when I was young ;)
ChristyG1969 5 years ago
You know... I've had people say things like that to me for years now.
Someone even said they wished they could be my child so I could read to them every night. Made me tear up.
Being read to right before you go to sleep seems to make one feel that they live in a completely safe world. :)
