  • This brings backs so many memories

  • man i started watching some clips of this movie and i can't get this song out of my head. But it makes me happy so i guess i'm off to have a zip-a-dee-doo-dah day.

  • that black guy is scary!!

  • Omg! I remember this song! When I was young I used to love it!

  • I'm so glad there's youtube! So we can still enjoy it!

Without YouTube, I would'nt even know that this DISNEY CLASSIC existed.

I know the Song of the South by the Dutch Donald Duck here. That makes strips of Brer Rabbit. And that's also my favorite character!

Very pity that this film is not on DVD. :(

  • ewwww

  • Timely lyrics amid stressful moments allow perspective and self control.

  • I really this movie to be released on DVD.

  • The CGI back then was amazing! can't even tell they are not real! :O

  • @MattCheltz ummmm thats not cgi its hand drawn animation

  • @moviewerewolf I think he means the bald guy in CGI *next* to the hand drawn animation.

  • @disneypassholder the bald guy (uncle remus) cant be cgi next to the hand drawn animation because in the year of the films release (1946) cgi never exsisted

  • @moviewerewolf I get it. I was joking, like MattCheltz was.

  • ive never watched this movie or even heard the songs, my friend told me about the songs...i just wanna ask how is this racist?? am i missing something?

  • HOLY SHIT, IT'S 1 AM HERE, I'M HALF -ASLEEP, AND CLICK ON THIS VIDEO, AND ALL OF A LL SUDDEN A MAN IN A DARK ROOM STARTS TALKING WITH FULL VOLUME. HELL, THAT SCARED THE SHIT OUT OF ME!

  • Thumbs up for the kid getting gored by the Bull

  • I loved uncle remus as a kid. thumbs up for uncle remus!!!!

  • I'm a kid and happen to love this movie. I don't understand how anyone can call this 'racist'. I'm lucky enough to have grandparents who own a copy of this, so I'm able to watch it every time I visit them, but I'm so annoyed that I can't buy this because it's supposedly 'racist' and isn't sold anymore. :(

  • SHAME on anyone for considering any part of this movie as racist! Get off your victimized, ignorant soap box and see this for what it is. James Baskett and Hattie McDaniel were two of the greatest actors and singers of the 40's, and now their talents and wonderful performances in this movie will be lost and forgotten due to the unedcuated, uninformed, clueless followers who feel like they have to cause trouble to feel special. What a disgrace to blacks and the democratic party!!

  • I don't see the racism in this... Can someone explain it to me?

  • Comment removed

  • i love this film , im only 14 but have loved it since i was 2!!!

  • ok, most children who would watch this wouldn't even know what racist is. its a classic disney movie and should be presented so. if you don't like it, too bad, don't watch it, others might like it. p.s.if its that bad why do they still have the ride at disney...i love that ride its so great and im glad they haven't gotton rid of one of the last original rides, because people can't get along and understand. keep the classics running, don't go soft.

  • hahah DUMBO is more racist than this. ever listened to the song where they sing "we make our pay then throw it away"??

  • Yea, my friends and I just watched this last night expecting something horrible, and it's really not racist from what we could tell.

  • I used to love this movie when Iwas a kid. They should bring it back,it's not racist!

  • Wow. Absolutely awesome and amazing. Imagine that - black folks and white folks actually getting along is movie. No Malcom X, "Kill Whitey," or "Blonde haired-blue eyed devil" rhetoric. No glorifying gangasta rappers or gang members. No "biatch," "hoe," or other degrading songs or moron-speak. And they say Song of the South is racist ?!?!?

  • oh everyone just SHUT UP and enjoy the clip!!!!!!!!!! your ruining the zippety doo daaaaahhh!!!

  • There are many reasons why this has been TAGGED as racist (Most w/o merrit). However, I tend to push the roots of this to the B/S of the late 60's and early 70's. When you want to change the world start with feeding the B/S in the name of the children. Signed generation, Who?

  • At 48 years old, I still find myself singing these songs to myself. When things are going good, it is Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah. When things are all going wrong, it is Laughing Place. I think it is because of this movie, that I can laugh, when life sucks.

  • i grew up with black people on the south so dont talk racist about this movie ya here?!

  • oh lawd...

  • What's offensive isn't what's there, it's what isn't. "It's as though Disney made a movie about Jews after the Holocaust with a song titled 'Hey! Nothing bad had happened to us, ever'". (cracked) And also, the actor in this wasn't allowed to attend the premiere.

  • why are they not showing the moving anymore ? i actually did not know the name of the movie that zip a do da came from intill right now and im 29 yrs old would love to see it

  • @DEEG2005 You can probably see it here on youtube it's cute I remember watching it on youtube or veoh it was some website.

  • This movie is precious nothing is racist about it.

  • So very beautiful...

  • lol.......splash mountain......

  • i agree its not rascist the black charecters always win and the white ones win also . this is a great movie it may depict slavery but if your young enough you wont even noice .

  • @kobe24bballking It doesn't depict slavery. The story takes place after the Civil War during Reconstruction. That's why Uncle Remus can leave at the end, and come back by his own free will.

  • i find that guy VEERY creepy

  • movie was made in the 1940s...u can argue that its racist all you want, but back then it was not considered racist because of the times....and now it is just considered a classic

  • @emysue1992 I'd say it was very progressive for 1946! And it's not racist in any way. Uncle Remus was by far the wisest person in the story.

Write to Disney Corp...demand they release "Song of the South"!!!

  • @Drboogerson ??????

  • not racist but the dudes eyes look creepish through the whole first song

  • i wanna watch this movie so bad!!!!!

  • 5 people couldn't get to the Laughing Place.

  • I don't understand, why do people think this movie is racist??

  • i miss livin' in the south, i used to live in mississippi

  • People these days... this is NOT racist. It is an adorable story meant for kids. I swear some people just try to find things that are wrong with simple little things like a children's show. I'm white, btw, and I find nothing wrong with this show, honestly.

  • 5 people did not have a zip-a-dee-doo-dah day.

  • @bart11114

    make that 7... :)

  • @bart11114 he say ay not day

  • I love this movie!

  • UNCLE PHIL!

  • @hemmpyhemmpy Uncle Remus.

  • @AdrenalineAddict610 One is played by James Avery, the other by James Baskett. (Weird, two uncles played by actors named James.)

  • I dunno, the term "tar baby" is kind of absurd in itself. Also, the characters all speak like Stepin Fetchit...plus the dude lit a cartoon frog's pipe-personally, I don't give a fuck. But I can easily see how some people could find this offensive.

  • i guess its cute to see happy slaves.smh.

  • i love this movie grow up with it.

  • Uncle Remus is a legend.

  • it's not racist. if a cartoon had White people in it will it still be racist? if anything, this cartoon gives blacks a chance to shine. please not get into race every time there is a black person in cartoons.

  • I've grown up with this movie and I didn't see it as racist at all when I was a kid. I'm a history major and having studied the time period this movie takes place, I know it's not as racist as others may think. If anything, it teaches kids about facing your problems nonviolently and making friends. I bet that if you showed this movie to a room of kids who had never seen it before they would not only have a good time, they wouldn't think it's racist either.

  • @TheITinFIT I agree 100% I do not understand how this movie is supposed to be racist. People who think that obviously haven't seen this movie.

  • @TheITinFIT I didnt find it racist as a kid & I`m mixed race myself =-P

  • @TheITinFIT I have never seen this movie, but I have been dying to see it...If I am not mistaken, I found it on Netflix. x3 I don't understand how we could ban such a movie that faces the facts of reality, when, in truth, we show MUCH worse stuff in our society today. I will try and test that statement if I can, about showing it to a room full of kids. I am a Junior in High School, and everybody I talk to, other than huge Disney fanatics (like me), has never heard of it. It truly makes me sad.

  • @Inuyasha7543341 I know where you're coming from. Most of the people I knew in high school dismissed almost anything from Disney as childish except for its outpourings of annoying teen pop stars. According to Netflix it hasn't been released on DVD yet, but I'm hoping someday somebody high up on Disney's corporate ladder will change their mind about that. If you really want to see the whole thing, search on YT, it pops up from time to time (proof that it can't be kept hidden away forever!)

  • @TheITinFIT Ah, well. Thank you for that bit of help. My friends and I all love Disney, and I always go into a fit of rage when someone insults it... (not the best approach, but...) At least some of us are trying to keep the GOOD Disney alive. (I hate the stuff Disney is putting out atm...>.<)

  • @TheITinFIT i saw this movie on you tube and i didn't find it racist either and do u know whar i can get this movie on dvd

  • @celestlived how could you say that this causes you pain? you wernt alive when slavery was about and you never had to live the pain. this movie wasnt racist then because thats how life was back then. if youd rather disney portrayed a real version of slavory then go ahead and write a letter to disney productions. kids have to learn about it somehow. im sorry your black and have hostile regression, but get over it. its 2010 and you have just as many rights as a white man so shutup.

  • i love this movie <3

    BRER FOX <3 <3 <3

  • thanks for the song!! (: been looking for it(:

  • thanks! (:

  • My friend came over at my house with this movie and i loved it! The songs are happy and i actually saw no offense to it. I really don't see why people think its racist.

  • It's not racist... the cry babies today don't know the words of imagination!

  • The reason many blacks find this movie offensive is because is a happy slave singing. Put yourself in this position, heis a slave, so why would any slave be happy? Another reason is for the way that all of the characters that are black have ill grammar. Now we understand that many black slaves did talk as such, but when many black are forced to hear this speech again we regress to thinking about the pain that many of our ancestors were forced to deal with. Im black thats how i feel watching this

  • @Celestlived are you serious? the reason you find this offensive is that the slave is portrayed as happy? and the movie utilizes actual southern slave dialect patterns? clearly the existance of a happy slave in a movie is more surreal and less likely than a talking rabbit, or a frog that smokes a pipe.

  • @Celestlived If we ban all movie that make us think about the pain that many of our ancestors were forced to live with, then we should ban all westerns because of the genocide committed against my ancestors at the hands of the federal government. We would have to ban all movie that have anything to do with the War Between the States because of the pain that many of my ancestors had to suffer at the hands of the Yankees. Your ancestors suffered at the hands of the Yankees as well.

  • @littlewilma22 Or all cartoons, because of the smoking and violence.

  • I love the how do you do song!

  • these are actually very catchy songs, Disney should have released it.

  • @lpslittlestpetshop yh thats wat i mean its supposed to be about slavery but if it was about slavery wud u have a happy singing black man :/ i think not

  • I grew up with these movies and cartoons. They bring back wonderful memories and I see nothing racist about them. Was The Beverly Hillbillies racist because them made fun of us country people?

  • Who wouldn't want Uncle Remus as their surrogate uncle or mentor? 8D

  • Thank you so much for sharing this.

  • People thought it was racist because it shows African Americans being happy on a white man's plantation. But that's stupid, isn't it good that they're happy. Would it be better if they showed them not being happy? Besides it's a damn kids movie, Seriously people! There are far more racist things on TV and in movies now a days and people barely complain about it as they did back then!

  • laughing place is a great song

  • imagine uncle phil doing a remake of this film

  • I want it on Bluray

  • i just cut the animated part in nice 25 min cartoon

  • There is nothing racist in this movie...you hear racisim or stereotypes in songs today but they're still selling them anyway..if they can do that then they need to sell this movie again since it puts a smile on everyone's face!

  • wouldn't it be as bad if gone with the wind or civil war movies were

"racist" at that time african americans were slaves/house servants But now we dont have slaves. are civil ear movies racist now?

  • Its considered racist because Uncle Reamus is a slave during the Civil War. The songs all have a minstral feel to them as well as exaggerated vocal and physical characteristics. The Baer Rabbit character is the classic trickster like Koapelli or the Americanized version of Bugs Bunny, only the character is African in origin

  • @1motorcycleboy This movie is post civil war first of all, and secondly he is not a slave. He has his own quarters, albeit on the farm, and he can come and go as he pleases. He is an employee. People need to realise that while you might not /like/ the fact that the only employees on the farm were black, that was the time period. Just because you don't like it, doesn't mean it didn't happen. It's not racist, there are no racial slurs, it's just historically accurate (socially anyway).

  • I love this movie so much!!! I used to have a record with all the songs on it.

  • Best youtube video ever. These songs always make me happy :D

  • I used to watch this movie when I was a kid. I just loved it. It wasn't until some years that I noticed that it was banned because it was considered racist. Too bad, I think it's a wonderful movie in many ways

  • I suppose it's racist because most the black people in the movie are the servants, but not releasing the movie because of that is silly in my opinion as I believe that it is a beautiful disney movie. I'm lucky I still have it recorded on video off the tv from when I was a kid, but I would love to have it on dvd.

  • @Rimmer89 Actually, this was post Civil War, and they are supposed to be paid...

  • I dont see what is racist in the movie. I really dontt... Can anybody help?

  • @tomibic, personally I don't see why they (Disney) won't release the movie, it is not banned though. Just not allowed, Disney has spread "rumors" around that they will release it.

As to your question, the only racism I can see - the white people don't seem to do any (or only a little) work while the colored (or blacks, or however you want to call them, I can't say as it is so controversial) do a lot of work. Cooking, wood gathering, indoor working, farming, and etc. Hope this helps

  • it was a great movie too bad it was too racist to be played. however it wasnt to racist for the internet

  • its a fucking log ride bro.

    youre friends are pussies

  • /soap in your mouth

  • You're kidding, right? That ride is freaking adorable, and personally it's also my favorite:D Your friends must be pussies.

  • lol it's not trippy at all. not even remotely trippy.

  • If Brer Fox ever wants to ea again, he REALLY should stop hanging with Brer Bear xD

  • He's not evil he's dyslexic.

  • lol. i have this movie.

I loved it as a child

  • 4:18-4:19 lol

  • This song always makes me happy:]]]]]

  • LOL this guy is like always on acid

  • if the film industry is still allowed to sell Shirley Temple movies, most of which have racist elements in them, why the hell can't they sell this anymore?

  • This movie is adorable I don't get why it's racist.

  • It was targeted because it "portrayed as slaves as being happy with their jobs"

I dont understand their logic exactly.

  • Actually they're happy even though they bust their butts. Although it isn't anywhere near as bad as how slaves are portrayed in Gone With The Wind.

  • LOL in a free land Like Amerika you cant buy this movie becouse it have MAYBE racist things? Here In Germany you can get it ^^

  • But not in English huh? 'Cause I was in Germany not too long ago.

  • @TamamaCandyLover I learned the reason of why.

According to someone I know, he said that it's where Black people would end up possibly mistreated, and/or judged by others. I know this, because he said so.

  • @TamamaCandyLover apparently its to do with slavery but if it was about slavery wud you have a happy singing black man :/

  • @princessbabyfirefly It's actually not about slavery since this movie was set during the reconstruction era and not before or during the war.

  • @littlewilma22 everyone says thats why its racist and i dunno why :/

  • @TamamaCandyLover Neither do I..

  • @TamamaCandyLover thank you finally someone who watches the movie and sees it for what it is a classic disney movie

  • @TamamaCandyLover Its Not that its Racist, Its just history Really...There are a few elements of Racism but not cruelty. It has a Pedophile them, Uncle Raemus was regarded as wanting to sex the little kids lol

I personally love this movie still today and Im 23! I dont think he is a Pedo :)

  • People should enjoy the films for what they are - children's films!! That's the audience they're aimed at after all! (Even though I still love 'em and I'm in my 20's!! lol!)

  • So does the "It's a Small World" ride, but that's not shutting down anytime soon. It was a time in history and it was the (although unfortunate) status quo of the time period. Nothing can change that, so why censor the public now? Shouldn't they have it so that we can, if nothing else, learn from our mistakes? Whatever. Rhetorical questions.

  • I don't see why they don't just release this movie on DVD. It's not like they completely got rid of these songs either. They're played on Splash Mountain all day and night, so I don't quite understand exactly why this movie and the songs are considered so racist. I don't get it.

  • you can see it 5207me5207 its on youtube just type in song of the south pt 1 it was there when i type it

  • That whistle noise that Mr. Bluebird made is the same sound at Disneyland when they scan your ticket! :D I wish I could see Song of the South. :(

  • omg it is isn't it??? thats crazy. how cool.

  • this movie is one of the very best disney classics. I love it. its sad that they wont put it on DVD. so few people i know have seen this movie. but i do belive its a classic no matter what. Poor uncle remus only 44. =( i woulda loved singin zip-a-dee-do-dah with him.

  • so why all the fuss? I don't see any racism....am I missing something?

  • Its so sad the actor that played Uncle Remus was only 44 when he passed away. Years ago for a birthday present for my mom I was able to buy a tape of the movie. Its her favorite movie!

  • Since I've watched this rare Disney classic a few times from beginning to end on YouTube, I think that it deserves its place on DVD and maybe even BluRay. Former Disney CEO; Michael Eisner, recent Disney CEO; Robert Iger, and Walt Disney's nephew; Roy Edwards Disney have been putting this topic off long enough. I think the Walt Disney Company and Walt Disney Pictures should just realease it onto DVD legally, that way it will cut down on people buying bootlegged copies from outside the U.S.A.

  • Its because they're pussies and don't want to "offend the African American population" hey, stuff happens, and I know lenty of black people that could care less if this movie was realeased on DVD.

I think that this movie is alot less offensive than The Three Calbroeeros (sp?), if you ask me. At least, Uncle Remus is portrayed peacefully, and isn't shown shooting a gun... unlike a certain parrot.

  • Hey, the Three Caballeros isn't more offensive than this movie. If it were it wouldn't have a Mexican film composer or stars such as Aurora Miranda, Dora Luz, Carmen Molina, and several other Latin American stars. I'm Latino and I'm not offended by it.

  • i,m glad they made that movie. im mexican and saw nothing offensive.. only white people do..

  • Why is that?

  • White ppl like to complain about stuff.

I'm mexican and I love TheThree Caballeros!!!

  • @commentmutant We dont find it racist.

  • @commentmutant I'm white. I didn't see anything racist. I want to see this though.

  • @Danielk1996 The Three caballeros?

  • @commentmutant Basically. I meant Tom and Jerry.

  • Very awesome!! Thanks for sharing this. I have always wanted to see the entire film... unfortuantly the only way i ever saw any of this was via an old disney sing along tape :(. This was very cool thanks.
