"Greenies" aren't out to control big oil, they're developing alternatives because fossil fuels are fast running out. If the alternative is cleaner and safer (no harsh toxins; no one dead in a mineshaft), what are we waiting for? What good is all that power if earth is un-livable? We need to pollute less. Point is, if industry were powered with safer technology (which now exist) we wouldn't need people to dig underground or to get terminally sick working at a toxic factory. Oil companies can improve, but we need to wean ourselves off fossil fuels. Soon enough, we'll be forced to. Why not choose to do it cooperatively now?

In a sense I agree - the TRUE green protectors are the people who work in big oil, forestry, gas and those people are the ones who find more and more efficient ways to exploit resources into life-giving energy for our world. 'Fossil fuels' are cheap, efficient and the best we have so far.

It's impossible to live without using Something - we are not cavemen. It's HOW we use what we need, and to what ends, that is at question. Those in power now should help the rest of us.

You can't have clean safe and lasting at this moment. You can change that by taking engineering courses and inventing safer rig designs. Then you can vote in (or out) politicians and laws that (for example) make them drill far off the coast where leaks are nearly impossible to stop.

Then you can vote with your dollars. Which you do. You buy products which are efficient and last the longest.

You can do that today and big oil doesn't do nothing but encourage it and like it.

Even if global warming isn't related to humans at all, the benefits of lowering our environmental footprint are obvious. Cleaner air, nice rivers, increased health...why is global warming such a dividing point? On the topic of the human population - it's not a personal attack - of course decreasing the population would make it easier to coexist in the world. Even if each couple had two children over time the population would stabilise and decrease, why would that be so bad?

I could be wrong but it is worth considering I think the Ozone hole was caused by the atmospheric testing of nuclear weapons, not CFCs as advertised. Dont expect governments to admit they have damaged the planet

Global warming has been caused by the Sun getting hotter. (See solar cycle) We know this because all the planets in the solar system are hotter too. Man made CO2 is < 0.1% of greenhouse gasses. 96% of green house gasses are water vapor (clouds).

All the greenhouse gases has an effect on the climate change; * water vapor * carbon dioxide * methane * nitrous oxide  * ozone * CFCs

When a greenhouse gas is overproduced it hurts the stratosphere, and because trees need a lot of co2 it really bad that there is so much deforestation :( But remember that natural produced greengases actually helps the stratosphere. A big part of the stratosphere consists naturally of Co2. To much of anything is never good :(

I don't think we are quite aware of all the benefits of living in harmony with all around us. It's not just about saving the planet and the immediate threats of flooding,etc, but the cutting of pollution and living healthier has a positive effect on the health and wellbeing of the population, stemming accelerating cancer rates, asthma, chronic fatigue syndrome and other health issues. Understanding interconnectedness is the key. :)
