Game Gear was an 1:1 handheld version of Sega's previous generation home console, in fact it can read real master system cartridges by an adapter :p

PSP is ALMOST an handheld version of Sony's previous generation home console, PS2. But it's not as powerful, wich denies real 1:1 ports

apart from that, they're basically the same concept in 2 different eras: "Hey Nintendo, your hardware sucks balls!"

GameGear color palette was not just wider than Master System, it was even EIGHT times bigger than Genesis, wich means the GameGear has someting better even than the "next gen" counterpart :) (Master System has 64 colors, Genesis has 512 colors and game gear has up to 4096 colors).

I prefer psp. Because it can play Game gear, Sega Genesis, Master system, Nes, and a lot of great retro systems. Game gear was awesome though. I have one. The problem is short battery life, it's large, bad caps, and it takes double a batteries so you can't just plug it in and charge it. Psp also has a better backlight. Game gear games kicked ass but the system was inconvenient. I have a game gear with a few games but it needs new caps. I would rather play the games on psp though.

I have the PSP, the DS and the NeoGeo Pocket color and as well the Gamegear. I'm 38 now so trust me I've seen video games since the Atari 2600! I love my PSP and my DS not the same machine and not the same games. There is no comparaison here as far as I'm concerned. The old systems are as good to someone like me cause I remember when they came out and the hours of fascination they gave us back then. In the end lets just play for the fun of playing video games. Game gear will always be good.

Well, I am 29 and build gaming pc's too, the point is the psp isn't crap. The stock games you can get are great, the ps1 games are great, and if you install custom firmware, there is nothing it can't do! Hardware acclerated quake 1 and 2, internet radio, all the homebrew games and emulators, with a large 4gb+ mem stick you can have 1000's games on it without changing a disk! Its almost like a mini pc!

Also, Super Game Boy wasn't much more than another way to play Game Boy games, the only difference was that some games appeared in color or had other features than on an ordinary Game Boy, but few games actually took advantage of that. I know that it changed a lot, but think of this. The game gear is similar to a game boy advance (more or less), and the nintendo DS came out in 2004 (I think, and PSP on 2005 I think) so the 'great evolution' was only in 3 years :P.

The game you played in Game Gear looked VERY cool, I mean, the 'speed' in that racing game is the same compared to that Outrun 2006. I don't know if I was clear enough.... well anyways it doesnt matter.

I disagree. Although the color was a nice feature on the game gear, the backlight was so weak, I couldn't even play my Game Gear outside in direct sunlight because the screen didn't reflect the light unlike the Game Boy Color. And because of the weak backlight, the colors didn't show up very well. The Game Gear ended up being a battery-eating waste of $200. And besides, what memorable games were released on the Game Gear anyway? Sonic 2?
