it did take more than a plane explosion, it took a plane impact. an intentional, full speed impact, punching a giant hole into a building. you'll notice that the second building to be hit was the first to fall. this is simply because it was hit lower, it had more weight to hold up.
explosion destroyed the fire-protection layers of concrete (or mortar or similar isolation) on the buildings steel frame, causing the steel structure to collapse
cause of collapse was not impact (atleast not directly), it was fire
a building like that can an would survive a fire, but not without the fire protection that was destroyed with the explosion

you're right except that fire alone could bring down the building, if the whole building was engulfed in flames for hours or days. it would have to be incredibly hot, but the fireproofing would give out eventually and something would weaken somewhere. an airplane, however, simplifies the matter significantly, leaving the structure already very weak before the fire even starts.

but on the other hand, i do think that this building was way to big for that kind of assumption, since this kind of things never happened on megastructure before, and the forces on a structure that tall and heavy are enormous

cause of collapse was not impact (atleast not directly), it was fire
a building like that can an would survive a fire, but not without the fire protection that was destroyed with the explosion
atleast that's what my college professor says (civil engineering)

you're right except that fire alone could bring down the building, if the whole building was engulfed in flames for hours or days. it would have to be incredibly hot, but the fireproofing would give out eventually and something would weaken somewhere. an airplane, however, simplifies the matter significantly, leaving the structure already very weak before the fire even starts.

by building project, it should be able to sustain a fire (alone, not talking about the impact), fireproofing makes it impossible (in theory) for fire to expand to entire building, so the main structure should remain stabile, and fire localised on one section
just like that Madrid building that burned down, and other examples of fires that spread to many floors and did not collapse

but on the other hand, i do think that this building was way to big for that kind of assumption, since this kind of things never happened on megastructure before, and the forces on a structure that tall and heavy are enormous
p.s. dont argue with conspiratists, bad for your nerves, as they tend to completley ignore evidence, and bring up theories based on some assumptions without much knowledge of the matter, lots of them are just plain ignorant

The planes were the decoyt for the explosions idiot, no steel structure has ever came down by fire and those building were built to handle more than one plane in each of them. the '07 collapse of the interstate 580 overpass is a great example, with footage. the best one is the windsor building in madrid in '05. every section that was steel construction collapsed, with the concrete core remaining standing. but those structures were not hit by anything, they suffered no structural damage before the fire. the world trade centre buildings were heavily damaged, and the fire only needed to weaken their weakest point until the weight made it give out
