Flagged?! I am a belly dancer myself and we are trying to erase the misconception that belly dance is purely sexual or "stripping". The fact that this is flagged is an insult to belly dancers and propagates the stereotype. Belly dance is a celebration of femininity and power, and is quite visceral, and if people think this is erotic and obscene, it is because false misconceptions have led them to believe so.

I've been looking at many videos of hers and as someone said, they are repetitive but I never tire of watching her. And yes, she didn't create the moves but it's unique way one move flows into another....effortlessly. I've taken Yoga for 4 years and am now belly-dancing and I can't, not yet anyway, do her moves. I really like this style because it's not as alluring and sensual as Egyptian Belly-Dancing, her style of dance is more about power than sex. patanjali

I agree with every you said, patajanli. However, i'm going to have to disagree with you that Egytian style belly dancing is about sex. I dance classical Egyptian and I've never met another dancer of that style who does it for the sake of pleasing men. Yes, it's a lot more flashy, but hardly about sex.

Wow, what a lovely dance. I just started practicing myself. From what I've seen there are a lot of people who claim they can belly dance, but all they are doing is random undulations with no form and very little hip/stomach movement. Of course, I understand she's trained for this - but still. Very very nice.

hmmmmm....I prefer Didem myself but this is because I'm Turkish and grown accustomed to the way Turkish people dance.When I 1st watched Rachel I was amazed.I still think shes amazing but when she spends too much time slithering like a snake I start to get a little bored.Just about all of Didems performances are different whereas Rachels get a little repetitive..still props to them both.

I will be totally honest: Rachel is very good. I usually don't expect much of a performace when non-middle-eastern woman do bellydance, since I haven't seen too many good performances, but Rachel has talent. She surpised me big time. The only thing I don't like is when some people make the statement that all those moves have been invented by Rachel. All the moves that Rachel performes have been used by other belly dancers before, even before Rachel was born. She has great talent though.

It's a bit patronising to 'not expect much from non middle eastern dancers'. It's like not expecting people not from India to be good at yoga, or not from Scotland to be good at bagpipes. If you practice, study and enjoy an activity, there's no reason not to be very good at it. These moves are influenced by middle eastern dances, but we were all tribal people once and many similar moves have been shared by many peoples over countless generations - if you're going to use origins as an argument
