I have to say, ive had the spektrum dx5e, dx7 and dx8 and with those try going to a major rc event and fly your plane lol, it will crash! It will lockout! Since when have you seen an avid Jet Turbine modeler fly a spektrum? They know better than that. Spektrum does not have anything on Futaba.
I have seen videos of problems with the DX8 with some causing the model to crash. Was this a hardware or software fault and more importantly have they been sorted yet? As I really want to get one.
@RoseBowlFlyer26 We had Chris Huhn on our Podcast, the R/Cast, a few weeks ago. He stated that the DX10 will be coming Stateside, however no specific announcement time frame has been given.
Our local Hobbytown is really good about getting Horizon products to us - I should be first in line for them once they hit the shelves here. When I asked them to put my name on the list for the DX8 most of them hadn't even heard of it yet! I've purchased my DX7 and 9303 from them, they treat us well here for JR and Spektrum products.
I'm definitely going to buy one as soon as they hit the shelfs, replacing my 9303 BUT to say this is the first air radio with telemetry isn't true - Aurora has telemetry.
But seriously, I think it looks fantastic despite what some knit pickers may say! Personally I'll take features and performance over looks any day. Glad I held off almost a year on buying a new Tx, this one seems perfect for me. Can't wait!
One question...What about future firmware updates? Can this be done now at home by the user?
Do the model settings that transfer on the memory card...does that also bring over the model match info? Can I put a card into another DX8 and have it bind immediately to a plane that I bound with with my model memory on another dx8? Or will I have to rebind?
@djmoosecom Yes, anytime you re-locate the model memory to a new location in your TX or another TX you will have to re-bind the recevier. It is remembering that specific model memory location. However, if you would like to say have IMAC flight settings and 3D settings for the same model you can set up "Flight Modes" for each then just flip the switch to move from one setup to the other.//JB
@HorizonRCdotCom Thanks for the clarification. It would have been cool if you could keep all of your models on your memory card...and simply use any DX8 that you put your memory card into.
@djmoosecom Well DJ it is just about that simple. If you use a 3 wire switch harness with charge jack you can stick the bind plug in there then turn the TX on in bind mode, wait for it to bind, then go fly. Given the security you get I think the 15 seconds to bind it is not a big deal. Radios that let you use any model memory at any time provide a huge opportunity to accidently select or try to fly the model with the wrong model memory, escpecially these days when we take 3 or 4 to the field.
The model match info does not transfer. Model Match uses a key which is unique to the transmitter housing & model number. To transfer these would be unsafe, as it would allow two transmitters to attempt to operate the same aircraft (just like the bad old 72MHz days). You will need to rebind the model with the new transmitter after loading it.
@f14fan1243 I don't believe so. This was John Adam's personal radio and, to the best of my knowledge, he has a Hangar-9 B-25 Mitchell that he is flying with electric power.
Hey guys, we totally appreciate the excitement out there but please remember to keep the comments G-Rated. We get a lot of kids and younger people who watch our videos and read our comments. Please keep that in mind, I hope you understand.
That is a very nice radio. Plastic case great, why waste money on the case. Who looks at their radio when they are flying? The case looks great! Not flying the radio.
How do you look at your Telemetry while flying?...
...without crashing?...

What about a 4servo wing sailplane with crow with elevatorcompensation?
Can it do that?
Cheers.

@johnschenck It's the first Spektrum radio with Telemetry, that was the point. You are correct that other systems have offered telemetry before this.

@lockpicker2k Yep, firmware updates are easy to download to the SD card then upload in the TX.

I think its way over due telemetry. Its been around for years. The air people I think needed before the surface radios. About time.

makes my Dx6i seem a bit out-dated. and the model name is "B-25 Elect" maybe a clue for what's coming up?
