This is kinda misleading, as there is no one (1) sami language, but eleven (11) different dialects, where Northern Sami is the most widely spoken and two (Akkala and Kemi Sami) are already extinct. Just google "sami languag" for more information.
May the culture of the Sami last for another 10,000 years. It's haunting melodious voice calls from the almost forgotten past when we survived through our connection to the land, and we sang our lives out. Everyone has a native origin somewhere in their genetic past, where songs like this were sung to teach to share and to commune. It is so pure and undeniably universal!
Why she use the swedish name "rensjö" when there are plenty of saami place names around? Rensjô "town" lies east of Ávreluoppal and north-east of Njouhcamjávri.
I'm going to have to join the bandwaggon on this one...her eyes, piercing beauty. They say the eyes are the window to the soul, I see nature, purity, innocence but somehow a readiness to fight if it is needed. Very much like wolf eyes. So fitting for the snowy, cold scenery. The area looks so desolate, so peaceful..so beautiful.
Why work for the trinkets of man, when the trinkets of the world are readily available and so...much more enticing? City life is not for me.
Just as reindeer are like the woodland caribou. Sami are like Cree, and Mikmaq. Just as cloudberries and lingon berries can get around, so can culture. There is little need to share goods around the far north, but there has always been an interest in sharing culture, a good story, a good song, styles of clothing.
BTW... Miksi ruotsin sijasta ei voi opetella saamea?! Olisin mielummin opetellut peruskoulussa saamea, viroa tai vaikka arabiaa tai kiinaa :D ku ruotsi on kuitenki saman tapasta ku englanti, mut paskempaa ja arabia on lähempänä sitä kieltä mistä ruotsi synty. Kiina on hyödyllistä koska suurin osa ihmisistä on kiinassa. Saamikin on sentään sukulaiskieli suomelle
@Koyzo11 Now what the fuck does America have to do with any of this? I'm so sick of these random bashes from people who seem to not be able comprehend what kind of hurt they're inflicting with these ignorant comments.
What if I were to say "fuck Sweden" for their history of wrongs against Sami people? It's just as ignorant, stupid, and hurtful but it at least has some relation to the video's subject.
Same story here! I've been searching for this short film for years, namely because of those eyes! And now I justed stumbled across it by chance! I'm so happy!
I hoped I'll have a chance to study a saami language at university, but there's no such option, so Finnish will have to do. Finnish is great, actually, but I've always wanted to learn an endangered language like saami or scottish/irish gaelic.
She sounds to me like a north-saami speaker. I recognize her looks to many women in farthest north of Scandinavia. She have same look as (search in Youtube for) "sophia and anna". Suspect that they are the same Anna's!
I'd tap that

Some says that native Saami language and their music have a striking resemblance to native American, you'd be the judge.
