The beat is composed of many layers of samples... the most prominent is a complex hihat pattern stolen off an experimental jazz record of the new york scene (no names named :-) and a tambourine pattern taken off some old prog-rock record... the rest was programmed by me from individual hits...
The row and column that are lit are internally programmed as MIDI cc messages (rather than notes). Then the bottom row is assigned to the master track's effects controls and the rightmost column is assigned to scene up/down/launch in Ableton Live. I don't use this configuration anymore though since I bought the AKAI APC40 controller...
i like it; reminds me of some of amon tobin's older stuff. may i ask what sort of samples you used to make those drum beats?
