I was there from '66 to '68 & worked for civilians at the power plant...attached to the 5010th Civil Engineering Sq. They treated me like family & invited me to their homes for great dinners! Will never forget the cold (-59 degrees), snow & "Northern Lights".
my dad is in the airforce and i lived on eielson. went to school there. it was great. i moved out here to PA 8 years ago. ill be back some day. i hate life out here and ive been to a few states on my own since i was 18 and no place compares. my dad builds bombs and missiles for the a10 and f16. good video though. any one want to help me get back up there lol? look me up on facebook. JAMES DARROW maybe i even know some one.
My family was stationed at Eielson '75-'78 and I went to Anderson Elementary School. I still remember it like it was yesterday. Went back for the first time in 30+ years to visit, guided by a Guardsman, and retraced my steps from our housing to the school. Great memories!
my family and i were at Eielson from 05-09 and those were by far the BEST 4 years of our life! we are at Nellis now (from one extreme to the next for sure!!) and we are dying to go back! definitely want to retire up in Alaska. its a completely different world up there and i cant wait to return!
I was at Eielson 1970 1972. it was a lot of fun...very cold winters and huge mosquitos in the early spring. Everyone was great and we worked hard and had a real camraderie that when I got back to the lower 48 I never found again relative to my AF tenure.
Nick, your thoughts about Eielson, and moving back to the lower 48 sounds very much like what my father said, too. We lived there '73 to '77. He worked in the engine shop for the 02's.
We did alot of camping and fishing while there, and much of that was with his friends and their families also from Eielson. Very tight knit group, and alot of good memories.
We moved to K I Sawyer AFB, Mich after Eielson, and things were just never the same again.
i lived in north pole from 1985-1992, eielson afb on portage from 92-95,postdivorce north pole 95-97, those dividends sure came in handy when i left my two sons were born there at bassett army hospital, they're both active duty serving in the air force and both are trying to get back home as they refer to the last frontier this video brings back many memories thank god for the ipcots for i may not have been able to enjoy the graciousness of this state for so long thought i'd never miss the cold
My dad was just stationed to Langley, Virginia, but we used to live on Eielson. My dad worked on the A-10s I believe. I hate Virginia. I wish we could have stayed at Eielson. Oh and 2:26, is that the extreme makeover dude? I remember when he came up!!! I think it was sometime last year. we were driving to walmart and this car was driving next to us that said "Extreme Makeover, Home Edition" with that Ty dude in it. it was awesome.
I can tell a lot of those pics were from places in Alaska other than Eielson. Good presentation, though. I was stationed there way back in 1983-84 when we had A-10's and O-2's. Back when it was the 343rd TFW. Of course those SAC maggots had an active duty wing there, too. They had the KC-135's and RC-135's.
Beautiful video -- I've watched it many times and it doesn't get old. Eielson '75-'78... stationed there with dad's assignment
