  • sweet sounds!

  • Awesome soundscape.

I also have a Godin guitar, GR-33 and a Boss looper.

  • awesome

  • This is great. I'd often messed about with delay but never even had heard of fripp at that time...its almost as if fate took me there. I still use primitive effects and an ebow to generate my soundscapes but hope to get proper synth capabilities. Would you recommend the Boss RC looper then? I only use Korg ax1500g at the mo

  • Thanks!

I'm using the RC-50 now, which allows you to loop three different sounds against each other in stereo. It's quite powerful, but if you are only starting out, I'd recommended trying the RC-20XL or the RC-2, which is a budget version of the former.

Good luck and have fun with it!

  • this is unreal, i haven't discovered much music like this. I use a looper myself but never like this, must be very interesting to be playing it. how long have you been playing? this style of music as well as guitar in general?

  • I started to learn bass guitar back in 1987 and slowly moved over to the guitar in 1990. My experiments with MIDI guitar and ambient looping began in 1994.

  • Beautiful.

  • gorgeous soundscape man :)

  • Hi,

I'm considering getting a Godin xtSA, primarily for synth access. How do you like the guitar in general, and more specifically, how is the synth tracking?

  • The xtSA suits my playing style and the synth tracking is the best I've known and I've done internal GK-2A MIDI conversions on Strats and LPs and they don't compare to the xtSA. I wholeheartedly recommend them!

  • What patch are you using on the GR-33? Is it a patch that can be found on a GR-20 as well?sounds like strings but better than what can be found on the GR-20. :)

  • It's a custom patch. The best results with the GR-33 are gained by creating your own patches. The GR-20 doesn't have the same level of patch tweakibility, so I am not sure if you'd be able to recreate the exact same sound. But the fun is in experimenting! :-)

  • That's what I figured. I have a GR-20 and this patch your using didn't sound like anything on the Gr-20! :) Thanks for the info.

  • beautiful but dark, very cool man.

  • Beautiful sound!

  • I didn't know electric guitars could do that!

  • Electric guitars CAN'T do that... but electric guitars with MIDI pickups systems (like this one) CAN do that, and even more. Just plug it to a synth module and turn your guitar into a synthesizer.

Btw, cool vid! Very Frippish! :-)

  • great

  • This is so cool.

  • Hey, cool soundscapes! I'm interested in that guitar of yours, the Godin xtSA. I've never had the chance to try it myself, but I've read reviews and info about it. I know all about the features and stuff, and it seems pretty amazing. But one thing seems to be a bit unclear: do the humbuckers split to single-coils in pos. 2 and 4 to get that strat sound?

  • Nice job, I have the roland gr-20, I am looking at the godin xtsa, how do you look the action an ebony neck. I hear it has great sustain. Thanks for the vid

  • The Godin xtSA is a fine guitar which I wholeheartedly recommend to those interested in guitar synths.

  • wow.. your sound is what i'm looking for. i've thought it'll be so cool if i make the sound on the stage.

  • I do a lot of robert fripp soundscaping myself, but I also work with synthesizers to make certain types of soundscapes too (play an access virus with a roland pk-5 footpedal so I can guitar and synth at the same time). I have to say that you really bring out the beauty of that synthesizer, i've never heard it been played like that. Very new age sound.. keep it up.

  • I find myself looking this soundscape up on a near daily basis. It's stunningly beautiful and peaceful. This has inspired me to get back into guitar soundscaping. Thank you for your contribution to music

  • Brilliant. Thanks.

  • this is excellent!

  • I liked that. I was just considering getting a GK 33. Now I need one badly.

  • Nice sweet trippy tune !

I love this kind of drone/loop music.

By the way, don't you even try to make a tune with only the guitar sound and using a volume pedal for slow attack and maybe octave & chorus & phaser pedals for synth sounds ?

I tried this and it is great to keep the organic, imperfect, lively sound of the guitar.

  • Hello, very nice. I want to buy a GR-33 and a Loop station like you. But I really need to make bass sounds at real time with guitar sounds. Is it possible or there´s some delay? Thank you.

  • The tracking is almost instantaneous. Hope this helps, Darren.

  • sounds like something that should be in Bladerunner

  • This is stunningly beautiful music! Thanks

  • Very very nice, very tasteful. What all instruments are on that pedal?

  • Yes - that's the nature of a guitar synthesiser. Imagine a keyboard synthesiser, but it being triggered by the guitar.

  • does it have sounds on it i could use for a melodic death metal band?

  • I don't know what that it, but a GR-33 is tweakable so I guess you could come up with some gothic sounds for your music. You are just limited by your imagination, I guess.

  • ah right, its just i was going to get a gr20 but dunno which is better

  • From what I've read, you can customise the sounds better on a GR-33 than a GR-20. A GR-20 is a more "basic" model of guitar synth for those who just want trumpets and pianos, etc.

  • Really, so i can get a darker sound with the gr33, ive noticed its cheaper also. Ive been looking for a demonstration that shows all the different sounds it has, do you know were i can find any?

  • Check out RP Hunt in the search box. 'Capture Rapture' part 3 is excellent and similar to this.

  • i play guitar... but ive never even looked into synth stuff... do you have to get a specific guitar with synth access or could i use my sg?

  • You can use any guitar as long as you buy a MIDI pickup that is attached to your instrument. Guitar synths like the Roland GR-20 and GR-33 come complete with the detachable GK MIDI guitar pickup. Hope this helps!

  • yeah it does, that sounds awesome... i believe i'm gonna need to buy me one :) thanks broseph!

  • very nice. did you record direct to studio or did you use an amp?

  • All my recordings are DI. No amps were harmed during this production... :-)

  • is the gr 33 something you can use in performance, like an effects pedal, or is it like a big guitar modeling processor like thr p50? also how much does it cost?

    this sounds great

  • The GR-33 is a floor-based guitar synthesiser. You can use it in performance and studio settings. It's about the same size as a regular FX pedal unit.

  • cool, thanks

  • what effect is that?

  • Amazing work.

  • Great affect and very patient and ambitious project. Keep going. It would be nice to see this used as a soundtrack. Someone, somewhere will buy it.

  • Nice ambience , but still far away from Mr. Fripp !!!

  • True, but with regards to Mr Fripp it is about inspiration, not emulation and I would never even dare to compare myself to him. I am a non-musician groping in the dark.

  • dude that was the fucking bomb.

  • Very cool stuff man, keep it up

  • Great stuff.

Y'ever hear of the band Jakob? Their latest album Solace (all their albums, actually) would be right down your alley.

  • HEY GREAT SOUND! Btw I just got my DD-20, and its my first delay pedal. Just a quick question though. I can hear a pulse sound created by the delay. is that normal?

  • Thanks for the kind words. The DD-20 shouldn't be creating any other sounds. I'd take it back to the shop and ask for a replacement if I were you. If the problem continues, it could be an issue further up the FX chain.

  • Great sound...

  • Great work. Real music for airports here (?) but very beautiful. Thanks. In the 70s this would probably have been on a very expensive German vinyl import album..... (and I would probably have bought it, haha)

  • Do you use a GK-3 with your Gr-33 ?

  • No - the MIDI pickup circuitry is built into the Godin xtSA. Those guitars come pre-equipped so there's no need for the external GK-3 pickup. Google "Godin Guitars xtSA" for more information.

  • like it

  • waow, very cool! great job, very very well, beautiful

    Alex

  • Thats sounding amazing dude...

how much did all that gear cost?

  • Considerably less that Robert Fripp's rig... ;-)

  • haha, good job... either way i have this on my favourites and show it to anyone who comes near my computer, lol.

    keep them coming!

  • Superb! Excellent work! It's still a soundscape, but it's not like you're trying to rip off Robert Fripp's style of constructing them.

  • awesome music

  • Really nice sound. I like it.

  • Man that is tight!

  • That was sick, Sid is grining from the nut house.

  • Depends which Sid you are talking about. Cashews are my favourite nut...and yours?

  • Why Syd Barrett of course, (could'nt edit spelling before) that reminded me alot of Floyd, you'll have no trouble selling your CD

  • Ahhh, the late great Roger Barrett. Not really an inspiration, but an important icon on the rock landscape. Yup - I flog a few CDs now and again. I knock 'em out cheap. ;-)

  • Do you listen to Terje Rypdal ?

  • No, I can't say I am familiar with that artist. If you have a recommendation for me, I'll happily check them out. I am always happy to try new music.

  • Check in my favourites videos section...put it on see all videos...and check the recordings with Terje Rypdal and Scott Walker.

  • wow!

  • Glad you liked it. Your single superlative is greatly appreciated. ;-)

  • OK I wasn't too sure about the "loud" one, but this is nice. Reminds me more than a bit of Steve Roach too. nice job!

  • Thanks for the kind words. Soundscapes come in all shapes and sizes. ;-)

  • good job.

What have you got to create this loop?

I do my frippertronics with analogs pedals, but (in sounds variety) are poor than you :(

    What´s your equipment?

    thanks

  • For this recording, a Godin XTSA guitar, a Roland GR-33 guitar synth, a Boss RC-20XL loop pedal and a Boss DD-20 delay. For guitar tones, I use a Roland VG-88. I hope this list is helpful to you.

    Regards, Darren
