  • toolsnfire got a tool in his mouth.. this is great like all your stuff mick

  • Man..this is brilliant ..my favorite cover of the moment...

  • mick, where in the heck do you find those herdim picks? they are like trying to find a needle in a haystack!

  • one of the roots to be a fan of u2... THE FUCKIN´EARLY DAYS.-..... BOYS DON´T CRY AND LEARN TO PLAY GUITAR FROM THIS GUY, AND OF COURSE FROM THE EDGE.....

  • good version, very ballsy and like the sound

  • Sounds good to me!!!

  • Fucking beautiful :)

  • COMPLETE AWESOMENESS!

  • Dude, you're not even playing the right fret notes, and the muted delay chunk chunk parts,....as Edge does. Relearn Redo. Gibsongirlthesecond got the muted delay chunk chunk parts at least. Check her out.

  • @ToolsnFire thats it i quit post your version so i can learn

  • @ToolsnFire This is just my opinion, but I think Mick and Gerry both play it much better than Gibsongirlthesecond.

  • @EaglesStir, I hear ya, but everyone's missing particular/proper fret notes, but at least Gibsongirlthesecond got the muted delay 'chunk chunk' parts as Edge does. You can see what Edge is doing pretty well in the 1981 old grey whistle vid, and even the 1983 red rocks performance adequately shows his playing.

I'll post sometime soon, I've got the 1981 version basically all figured out with the 'proper' fret notes.

  • @ToolsnFire you can hardly hear the video.

  • very good

  • Yo dude, ya know, on the basic percussive riff, Edge only strikes once per note on the first four notes of the percussive sections, and let's each repeat, with the 'just right' kind of palm-edge muting at the bridge(not too much), what you're doing is striking twice per note, with unmuted strings, although it still sounds right enough, but it's not the Edge way to play, which is easily repeatable, only difficulty is the tonality will depend on the volume 'mass' and overdrive subtleties.

  • perfect!

  • Brilliant

  • mick told me you is standard 440 or down a semitone?

    thank you

  • I love this sound. Great, mate.

  • Mick, what kind of drum machine are you using for the drums?

  • @goku8586 Its an electric drum kit that I play.its a Roland TD6

  • @mick3b1g Great, thanks man! You,J316and Michael from from guitar tutorials really inspire a lot of us U2 fans with your musical skills. Keep up the good work!

  • ottimo!! Sia il suono che com'è suonata, complimenti.

  • I think you're holding that pick wrong

  • @coolkid2446 nahh your just looking at the vid upside down :)

  • @mick3b1g No seriously you really are

  • @mick3b1g

All the edge's fan(especially who play guitar) Know that this is the Right way (edge's way)to hold the pick, the blue herdim pick!!

sorry ,mick ...my answer was 4 coolkid2446!

  • @coolkid2446 there is no right or wrong! it´s a matter of preference. I also hold it upside down

  • Mick, I see you used a 1/4 note delay for this song. How do you know when to use a 1/4 note vs. dotted 1/8th?

  • Mick, I love the color of that neck! I'm aiming at a Strat with a neck color like that. Perhaps you could give me a little info on yours? did it age like that or maybe you modified it?

  • @AntiRellik It aged like that. Its a 1979 strat. I actually own 2 black 79 strats and the necks are totally different. This one is a baseball bat. My other is a bit thinner and lighter in color

  • you are great mick 2 tumbs up

  • Oh, are you serious with that sound? It's just.. unbelievable! Congratulations, u just nailed it.

  • Keep them old songs coming Mick cheers, btw I ended up buying a Panasonic HD camera, sound is great on it cheers Mick mate ^5

  • Hey Mick

Underrated song imo - took me back to RR's - sound and playing out of this world as usual

    Harmsworth

  • you are without a doubt the second best at U2 songs. of course, behind only the Edge himself..

  • The man is a genius, thanks mick, best wishes Edinburgh, Scotland

  • I think you are the best person who covers U2...

  • @qwerty54321879 wow Thank you!

  • @mick3b1g

    i think so too :)

  • @qwerty54321879 you are not wrong there, makes my u2 vids look 2nd rate lol

  • @qwerty54321879 i completely agree.

  • Searing, fantastic tone.

  • Very nice sound out the guitar mick...i wish i get that sound....its almost the same sound o The Edge at that time...

Mick i want to ask a favor , i play on the church but i want to make improvising with the same ``accent`` of the edge....the sound.... where i can get improvising on style edge...or transporting some riffs to a song...

Can you make a video explaining the best bases to do some riffs and things like thar?

    Thanks a lot!

  • @EmpireAsus key is the delay..You want modulation in the repeats I usually go for the digital delay with mod if using the M13. Rate around 4.0hz then bring up the depth so it gets etheral or chorusy sort of vibrato-ish. Then pre that with an overdrive like a screamer or similiar. Thats about it. Key is the delay times verses the bpm of the song so the repeats are in sync with the groove of the song. Last and most important the holy grail...The Herdim pic :)

  • @mick3b1g Thanks for the tips mick! , but i dont have the whole gear to do this ...i only have a Floor Pod from line 6...its a shame to want to play u2 with that....i want to trade him for a boss dd 20 and maybe get an overdrive.... Yea...i alredy now about the herdim picks....but here in Brazil dont have this little guys to sell....but i get one similiar of gibson(if i am right...) its nylon to and 1,07mm inch...

  • @EmpireAsus well the pod has delay with mod..Its a bit lacking but will work and works really good for fast delay songs like the early stuff. Longer delays it doesnt sound as good in my opinion but does work. Pod also has ts9 emulation and classic distortion which works and i think tube drive as well. Try and squeeze as much tone as you can

  • i cant believe how good your tone is! what are the settings for the m13? maybe i can try this one again with good tone.

    great job as always

  • WOW! You really nailed this. The playing and the tone was perfect. And thanks for the great camera angle. I'm kind of new at this and I'm not much of a gear head, so other than the strat I don't understand what it is you're using for tone. Could you possibly spell it out in more detail.

  • @marccomptois0913 sure its a very simple setup. Guitar/M13 left input/1965 vox pacemaker amp. M13 I used a screamer, analog delay with mod set to 416ms/room reverb(very little) thats it. Amp was on 11 miced with a sm57. I played/built the backing track using my electric drums and Fender Jazz bass

  • You must like U2 or something :)

  • Superb work Mick!!

  • Always been a favourite of mine, great song, these songs of this era were classics. Can the new stuff live up to this ? Under a Bloody Red Sky is still my favourite live DVD. Beautifully played Mick, great tone and sound with the M13 and its given me a few idea's as to where I have been going wrong. It is one of those songs that you never play the same twice. I SO wanna order those woodstocks but the delivery and taxes in the UK make it a very expensive shop ! Thanks.

  • Nice ! very very nice !

Where have you got tab of u2 ?

  • @Gael47nx no tabs sorry

  • @Gael47nx

    vvv.e-chords.com/tabs/u2/11-oclock-tick-tock

    obvoiusly 3 times w....ciao

  • Awesome like always, buena interpretación.

  • this vid makes me so happy and, as michael said, inspires confidence. it's just a strat, an overdrive and a m13 with a dot eight delay... but it's a kind of magic.. when i finish studying, i'm going to learn it tonight :) BRAVO PRIMO TENORE! :D

  • What kind of Kinman pickups are you using ?

  • @TakamineLTD woodstocks reg set

  • Flawless! You are so awesome!

  • @shajim Thanks its far from flawless i think it needs a bit more drive and a humbucker guitar like the explorer possibly

  • @mick3b1g :

What may not be flawless to your ears is flawless to ours. Your vids encourage me to keep practicing. You make it look so easy. Simply wonderful playing and tone.

  • @U2GuitarTutorials too kind Thanks Mike

  • oh j'm sorry Mick ,j forgot..what's the delay time?modulation delay?

    ciao thanks!

  • @spikelive I chose a bpm of 144 so i went with a 1/4 note delay which is around 416ms. I used analog delay with mod to get somewhat close to a mem man. I prob should have just used the mem man and sd1 or somthing..next time :)

  • Nice, this has been one of my fav U2 songs ever. Thanks again Mick.

  • in italy we say "era ora!!"...finally! J have waited for this cover...ahah all my life!

    Thanks Mick...great tone as usual!

    ciao!

  • @spikelive grazie mille....I think ive heard Bono say that a million times on the Milan dvd :)

  • Fantastic stuff, one of my favourites

  • woooooooooow so great!!! Congrats!
