  • thank you for this video! I plan on getting one eventually and I know what you mean about expert village...they had terrible info on crested geckos

  • Can this pussy not show up on YouTube everytime I type uromasyx

  • MM KAY! lol

  • "unkay?"

  • ummm this issnt ment to make u mad but your uvb light should be 6 to 12 inchs away from your mali dummy

  • Hey I'm going to get one of these but i have some questions.

    What should the temperatures be?

What light bulbs do you recommend? Im really unsure about the lighting and heating and im worried about getting the wrong stuff and having my Uromastyx die.

    Thanks.

  • mmmmmkkkkkkyyyyy!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  • Take that expert village

  • i don't have one yet i'm getting it soon but thanks anyway

  • it doesn't look like yours is in a tank bigger than a 55 gallon. so what should i put him in a 75 gallon because I can't afford that big of a tank and how big is this thing gonna get if it won't even fit in a 55 gallon tank

  • @HotManJonah how long is your uromastyx? or how old is it but preferably length? the rule of thumb is the tank needs to be double its length wide and quadruple its length long.

  • im the reptile kid at my school and my science teacher has expressed interest in getting a lizard i mostly take care of the class snake she has and i also work with a reptile rescue and they just got 2 in around 3 yrs and pretty small i was thinking of building a custom tank of ply wood and lining it with the repti carpet type stuff with screening for ventilation and a closed top and a fold down front with a screen top as well adding rocks and i can make a few hide boxes what else should i need

  • @ilovenoble2 plywood will begin to extrude the glue holding the plywood layer together and end up killing the mali. you'll need something other than pine as well, most people choose to go with oak. then since they're pretty young repticarpet will make it hard for them to walk, i'd say put down tile or just simply paper towels for a little.

  • @Chronicdiving thanks and i was going to use nails to hold the sides together and putting some kind of smooth surface underneath the main substrate or newspaper

  • @ilovenoble2 nails will probably crack the solid wood, predrilling and screws is a better option.

  • lol i know what you mean dude, expert village is a load of shit, they have no idea what they're talking about in ANY of their videos

  • Can i put a Mali in a 40 gallon tank for his entire life? please can someone respond this question. i need as much help, because i might buy one next week. thank u.

  • @619bluefish Yes :)

  • @619bluefish nope, you can most certainly not

  • im thinking about getting a mail uro, and i have heard from my neighbor that breads uros and beardies that you can put mali's and beardies together in the same tank as long as its a well sized tank, i have a costum made tank 100 gallon tank. i have a baby beardie currently in a 30 long tank, can i get a baby uro and put him with the beardie? would anyone know before i do this?

  • what do they eat!?

  • nicely done =) i like your eye contact with the camera...very appropriate and calm like a good instructor/sales man.....

  • I am so glad you did this... Now someone needs to go and correct the other DUMBASS videos from them about Bearded Dragons and the other snakes and lizards. EV needs to be banned! They dont know shit and the info the give out is totally wrong!

  • thats man you realy help me out with my set

    up

  • ive read there is no need for any kind of breeding cycle (temperature drop) unless you are actually breeding there is no need. dont quote me on this, i have more experiance with snakes. just check it out for yourself and give me some feedback i am very interested in learning more about uromastyx

  • good for you proving those retards wrong

  • wow u use a lot of long word dude

  • I have a small water dish in my mastyx cage because he loves to actually drink water sometimes. I didn't have his water dish in there, and he started getting skinny and once I put it in, he puffed back up and is more active. I guess it would depend on the animal or maybe type of lizard

  • Expert village.....>.> bunch of retards.

  • village vidéos don't get anything correctly.

  • Yea these lizards are very unpopular i would like to know more about this reptile but i think im going to go for western hog nose snakes i am looking for a new peace but just not seen anything nice apart from hogs and Uros is there any reason why there unpopular on the market place right now in the uk can you tell me why

  • Does anyone know if a uro can have berdie pellets please message me

  • expert village gives the wrong information on leopard geckos, bearded dragons and basically every thing

  • kinetic energy from the sun???

  • @21trial21 how many times must I go over this...READ THE COMMENTS...I've made it PERFECTLY clear that anyone who has any knowledge of physics will know that the sun produces kinetic not potential energy.

  • @Chronicdiving haha som people dont under stand potential-still kinetic-motion

  • @Chronicdiving ok ok

  • @Chronicdiving your forgetting thermo energy

  • @Chronicdiving Its not though, is it? It thermal energy, which you could argue is a transfer of kinetic energy if you were going to be anal, but that's not direct kinetic energy. Other than that, good video. As regards handling though, I can't speak for malis, but my saharans are fine to be handled. In fact most of the time they're little attention seekers. Are malis really that bad?

  • @Chronicdiving alright if you have had one for five years then i can believe you.

    thanks for telling me.

  • I'm planning on buying a Uromastyx, is there any tips u can give me?

  • man you know lots a stuff of uromastyx

  • so when i feed them like letuce should i put alot of water on it

  • By the way, desert animals do in fact need water in their habitat. Sometimes they like to rest in the water. Although they rarely do drink it. Have you ever actually seen a desert? They do have water in them.

  • @Jamestf347 you didn't listen did you...I specifically said they do not need water because they get water from their food...i said nothing about them not need water to survive...the reason we do not put water in the tank as owners is that the humidity in the desert is much lower than the humidity in our homes(when it hasn't recently rained etc) and in captive enclosures the water can get caught and cause tail rot...thank you for taking time out of my day because you didn't listen properly...

  • @Chronicdiving You don't listen either. They get water from their food, but that doesn't give them everything. Another thing is, having water in the tank does bring the humidity up. Not as much as you think though, As they ARE supposed to have a little bit of humidity. Leave it in the end near their food, as your tank is small, it'd be harder. But please don't be ignorant about stuff you should add, that you are NOT an expert nor am I, so don't act like it.

  • @Jamestf347 I disagree with you on having any water in the tank and research has shown they are just fine without water dishes but I will concede that it probably won't kill them...If there's good ventilation in your tank then the humidity should be fine. I personally won't put in a water dish but do what you want...Just make sure they don't get tail rot...

  • @Chronicdiving Granted they are fine without them, all I was implying was don't say they do not need it, some enclosures are completely different as they do need them to keep it at the right humidity. And yes the humidity should be fine if the ventilation is fine, but like you said its fine not having them, but it's also fine having them.

  • @Jamestf347 That's not my opinion...and in my videos I'll voice my opinion...but I appreciate the intellectual discussion all the same

  • @sasuke22sasuke u r wrong u do not need special stuff for baby leopard geckos i have 2 adult females and one adult male amd both females were purchased from an expo as babies and i didnt need anything special just paper towels, florescent(im not quite sure what kind exactly i apologize) water dish, hide box and a big tube which both females seem to enjoy at night

  • i cant understand this american way of keeping reptiles, to small and strange looking "tanks"...uromastyx are desert animals, they need bright light, hqi or hci lamps, are they not available in the us???

in my opinion, thomas wilms, wrote a good advice, its also in english available, look at the herpeton verlag.

    i cant post the link...

  • @aentru This tank has Megaray bulbs in it which give off UVA,UVB, and heat as well as supplemental lamps for the full spectrum UV...megarays ARE metal halide bulbs(i.e. hqi and hci)...hqi and hci lamps have to be filtered for reptiles so these are their products

  • what about an egyptian uromastyx?

  • @sk8lakaiordie1 what about them?

  • why is the camera so high?

  • @siimplemelody cause i'm 3'9" you sick fuck...how would you like to be a midget?!

  • @Chronicdiving ok so not nice i was just asking im not able to tell that your 3'9!! i liked the video i thought it was educational!!

  • @siimplemelody lol just playin' with you...the camera was sitting on my loft bed

  • @Chronicdiving oh thanks:) i thought that was great!

  • Hey, I recently got a Uromastyx hatchling and he doesn't eat much of his food. Is this a bad sign? We feed him Spring Mix cut into smaller pieces so they would be easier to swallow. He's very active and shows no signs of sickness but I'm still not sure. Is there any type of food you would recommend for Uromastyx hatchlings or one that he might enjoy more to get him eating? I'd appreciate a responce.

  • @ClashOfBlades urowiki . filecore . net that's my best advice...look up the food charts there

  • Haha kinnetic energy from the sun ??? U missed out on some physics lessons lol nice video though

  • @markhogsvagen

Oh FFS...how many times do I have to explain this to highschooler's who didn't ACTUALLY learn anything in their physics classes. Please see here eia.doe.gov/kids/energy.cfm?page=about_forms_of_energy-forms

and read the part about...kinetic energy being energy in the form of waves...and light being a wave form...

    thanks

  • this is kind of weird but my bearded dragon drinks water i have a lot of other dessert lizard one being a 2nd bearded dragon and none of the other ones drink.

  • what size tank is that?

great vid by the way, iv always said they and beardies dont need water in thier tank as they recieve it through food and the occasional bathe ubt iv always been told i was wrong, haha. thanks :)

  • nice vid ! i will never listen to those lying bastards at expertvillage 100% correct info

  • can i keep a mali and a red uro together??

  • i have a female mali uromastyx, are crickets just as bad a mealworms?

  • @CrispyKakes dont feed them any insects!!!

  • I wanna pet some lizards, what are the best lizards for beginners?

  • @toneric bearded dragons

  • @toneric bearded dragons.....

  • @toneric leopard gecko

  • @toneric i would say Crested Gecko

  • @toneric Leopard geckos are sweet, cheap, and easy to care for for the beginner reptile hobbyist. They only need a 20-30 gal cage and are quite friendly. Now, bearded dragons on the other hand are sweeter, more expensive, and slightly harder to care for. They require 40-60 gal cages, are bigger, and don't take care of there cage as well. Pick one and remember to do lots and lots of research. I hope this helped.

  • @toneric if ya now how 2 take care of it u can get any type

  • @toneric anoles there cheap dont eat alot and are easy to take care off

  • @toneric Leopard Gecko's are the most beginner friendly lizard you can get. Mali Uromastyx's are more for the knowledgeable lizard handler. Please thumbs this up guys.

  • @toneric bearded dragons and leapord gekos

  • @toneric geckos, bearded dragon, veiled chameleon

  • @toneric Geckos are the best though.

  • @toneric leopard geckos are cool looking and cheap and bearded dragons nice, tame, and have great personalities but are fairly expensive.

  • @toneric Komodo dragon.

  • @toneric probably a Leopard gecko or Bearded Dragon :D but personally for me I would get a Leopard gecko cuz they are nice and small :D and Bearded Dragons get a but bigger byee!

  • @toneric i would say if you want a begginer lizard get a leopard gecko i have three and i love them very easy to take care of and easy to be held, or you can get one of these im gonna get one pretty soon, also you could look into getting a bearded dragon, or if your just looking to get a reptile you could get a tortise i love them i have one and im about to get another one.

  • I bought my uromastyx a little while ago and he seems to be skinnier than a lot of the pictures I have seen. He is a little older than one, at least that is what the pet store told me. I feed him zuccini, bird seed, kale, and other vegetables. He leaves a lot of his food untouched and spends most of his time basking. I put his food in the cool side of his tank. What should I do to fatten him up and how do I know if he is eating enough?

  • @Trumpetnerd34 Try lentels and nesturtium flowers and sometimes fruits?

  • @Chronicdiving k thanks!

  • @Chronicdiving He seems to really like bananas! I just gave him some and he is chowing down! YAY

  • hi i was thinking of getting a mali uromastyx and was wondering what all the heat and other lamps i will need. i also was wondering how far the lamps need to be from reptile thx

  • is it posible for a mali and a bearded dragon of the same size to be kept in the same tank. i have a 6/ 3 foot encloser so room is not a problem

  • @domination3560 nope...they have different parasites and such...their heigene will kill each other...better safe than sorry...i know we'd all like to do it but it's not meant to be

  • Comment removed

  • Do you use a water bowl?

  • @Acehigh20201 nope

  • Dued , I so totally agree with you . nice vid

  • A pain, because it wouldn't be as convenient compared a terrarium in regards to cleaning / maintaining the riparium or buying the food for the Frilled Dragon / Water Dragon / Monitor which would cost more and not be as available relative to just vegetation. What's your take on this? Did you perhaps have a similar thoughts when you decided to get a reptile?

  • I was originally thinking about getting a terrarium and setting it up for a Uromastyx, but I've also been thinking about getting a vivarium or riparium for a Frilled Dragon / Water Dragon / Monitor. The terrarium w/ a Uromastyx seemed appealing initially because I live in the desert and have a tortoise habitat so feeding aspect would be somewhat similar. The riparium was emanating in a way that differed from, my perspective, the more bland terrarium; exotic, although might be a pain in the ass.

  • ya shouldnt they have water in the tank for the 20% humidity they need, and yes i know they dont drink water, but they do need some humidity in their tank.

  • @vgmustang Nope...read previous comments we just finished discussing

  • @vgmustang never put in water in the cage, ur rooms humidity should be around 40 or 50 and with all the lights and stuff it will lower the humidity in the cage to about 20%, :p

  • It's not kinetic energy...

  • @suicidewafflez Haha...don't go there please...I already explained to an earlier poster how it is infact kinetic...it'll save you some face to just leave it be

  • @Chronicdiving SHIT!!! Expert Village told me that!!! You just need to calm down and ACCEPT that expert village is in fact "experts" and from that realize they know what they're talking about.

  • @suicidewafflez Lol...

  • @suicidewafflez ... SCREW U!!!!!!!!

  • @killer12227 Alright buddy, so what time will you be bringing your mom over?

  • @suicidewafflez Seriously wow, great diss fucking get a life. And if u listen to expert village... U Kill Animals!

  • @killer12227 stfu

  • Thanks u r saving malis!!!

  • this helps im going to get one soon

  • I know someone who keeps a pair outside here in Miami and they breed great . I find that strange because as you know it is humid here most of the year but yes the sun here is intense so they must love that.

I liked the video. What size tank is that a 40 breeder?

  • @BrownDarter yup it is, but i've got a new tank you can see in my other video

  • smart guy, great vid, thanks and yes expert village is full of idiots... i looked at all there vids from hundreds of diff lizards to plants fish and verments to test em out they are complete morons .. i dont get where they find them

  • every one should know about the dangers of heat rocks. i dont even know why theyre still being made.

  • @elmago467 dude next time you try to explain how knowledgeable you are, perhaps, you should learn how to spell it first. Your grammar is that of a third grader. No one is going to consider you as a credible source of information just because you have a ton of reptiles. You can be an idiot with a ton a pets, it makes no difference. As I said earlier learn to spell and check your grammar if you want to be taken seriously. Lastly no one cares how spoiled you are your just insulting yourself.

  • u retarded all living things need water even if not drank

also if an animal is from the desert does not mean it DOES NOT NEED WATER

when they get it they drink a lot if you want to email me no worries i am more informed on animals more than you are clearly

  • @elmago467 Hahah...oh I do love a challenge...let me pull up a few quotes for you to expand your already vast knowledge of Malis....

  • @elmago467

"not all living things need to drink. Some desert rodents, such as kangaroo rats, gerbils, and jerboas, get all the water they need from their food. Their bodies can actually make water from dry seeds!"

    1994 National Wildlife Federation

  • @elmago467

"Opportunities to drink are a rare occurrence in the wild for most species of Uromastyx. Uromastyx solve this problem by producing metabolic water from their digesting food. As long as their bellies are relatively full, most are making more than enough water to meet all their needs. "

Deer Fern Farms(leading authority on Uros)

  • @elmago467

"These lizards acquire most of the water they need from the vegetation they ingest so they do not require a separate dish in their enclosure for water. They have rarely been observed drinking standing water."

Capula, Massimo; Behler (1989). Simon & Schuster's Guide to Reptiles and Amphibians of the World. New York: Simon & Schuster. pp. 259. ISBN 0671690981.

  • @elmago467 I hope this serves as a lesson to other reading this. Please make sure to check your facts before listening to every guy how has a youtube account and a keyboard because most of the time they're wrong. I just listened to the video twice and couldn't find where I even addressed water but I am sure i stated there should be no water in the tank, I did not say they did not need it because they make it from the moisture in their food. Take care and I hope you enjoyed your schooling :-p

  • @Chronicdiving first i do not get my source from the internet if from past expiriences and knolege u clear said do not need water im way more advance in knolege than you i got things u wish to have i may be spoiled but i sure dont depend on it all the time i do have more reptiles than you will ever have also more animals i may not have video posted due to the fact that i have to deal with people like u i was teacheD more than u i wish i could help you DONATE TO THIS PERSON HE IS POOR

  • chronicdiving u have to get a better hobby before u kill 1 of ur animals

PLEASE DO IT FOR UR PERTILES

AND WHO ARE YOU "SCHOOLING" RETADED AS NIKKA

  • @elmago467 haha you're just making an idiot out of yourself. I don't need to defend myself because no one thinks your credible.

  • Comment removed

  • @elmago467 @elmago467 , Many Desert dwelling animals do not drink water. They get it from the moisture in their food AND metabolism of their nutrition during their electron transport chain reactions in their mitochondria. One oxygen eats up 2 electrons and 2 hydrogen forming H2O, (each glucose molecule results in about 6 H2O. other species include the kangaroo rat.

  • thank u THANK U thank u, but please just answer me im desperate to know this answer.. is it true that these lizards can wip u with its spiny tail ??? if not then y do they a spiny tail ???? PLEASEEEEEEEEEEEEEE REPLY !!!!

  • @aboudqadi your writing style is the single most annoying thing I've ever seen on the internet....

The answer is yes they can whip you but it rarely hurts more than a small scrape

  • @Chronicdiving umm... dunno what to say.. thanks or i hate u.. lol =P

  • @aboudqadi ur welcome UR WELCOME ur welcome, but please just dont write like this im desperate to have you stop.. is it true that no 1 takes u seriously if you write like dis ??? if not then y do they not answer u ???? PLEASEEEEEEEEEEEEEE REPLY !!!!

  • @Chronicdiving whoa u got mad, sorry man i just got little excited cuz i didnt know anything !! it was good enough u=i subscribed !!

  • where do you buy egyptions uros online....

  • @iPicturePerfecti I would say that if you're asking that question you might want to look into things more before you buy one...deer fern farms might be a place to start, they'll be about $800-$1000...Egyptians are rarely shipped because of their size

  • @Chronicdiving i thought egyptions as juveniles only cost about 100$

  • @iPicturePerfecti i'm terribly sorry i wasn't even thinking...here's the quote from Deer Fern Farms

Egyptian: Hatchlings to yearlings (CB Pure Egyptian stock (U. a. a. bred by an affiliated breeder) runs $145 to $175, imported ranched Kuwaiti stock (U. a. microlepis) runs $125-$145. Good for beginners with room for a large cage (4' x 2' x 2' minimum when adults if fully reared in captivity, 5' minimum if bought as adults).

  • @iPicturePerfecti egyptians require an aweful lot of space...when they get older they usually need a whole room in ahouse if they get big enough

  • Great upload, mate.

  • This guy knows his stuff. Good Vid.

  • Great job! "Expert" Village is just a huge travesty. It's a lot more like "Novice Village (Of Total Idiots)". For every moderately decent Expert Village video I've seen, I've seen 10 more that are 100% totally false (and potentially fatal advice for the animal care vids).

Totally irrelevant, but you should totally be like, a public speaker or something. xD rofl

  • @CBsZoo haha why thank you...so very very true...i hope to make a new video this summer on how the new tank has worked out for the past 2 years

  • yo i just got a uromastyx and i dont know when to turn the lights off and shit, like do i keep them on all the time? please get back to meeeeeee

  • wow! you know your stuff!!!

  • that uvb does not reach the animal the uvb rays from tube light only reaches animals at a maximum of 12 inches

  • @reptilelova4life that's a bold statement for someone who's not aware of the specs of the bulb or the fixture...but to quall your fears, please visit my other video to see the new tank setup

  • expert village giving rubbish information?...NOOOO.. lol...

expert village, from what iv seen while researching corn snakes, geckos and ball pythons, spread a lot of bad information....i dunno who checks the vids before they put em out.

  • mkay?

    xD jk

good vid. glad someone made a vid with the correct info for people.

  • @psychopopcorn lol why thank you

  • the guy told me since its like a red heating bulb, its also light and heat at the same time.. im so confused haha

  • @egloiloar i'm not sure i get the question...he told you what was light and heat...i really think your best solution is to go read those articles i referred to earlier

  • Hi, im planning on buying a uromastyx, and at the local store they told me i just need one lamp, i think its the basking lamp.. is this true? or do you need 4 like you have, including the uv light

  • @egloiloar

depends on what lamp you're using...you need UVA UVB and a few other spall percentages...i'd suggest getting a megaray and then 2 full spectrum lamps...look on repticzone . com for a good detailed description of necessary lamps

  • I am glad that some one finally put out there that e.v. doesnt know stuff about mali's

  • @lizardguy1115 why thank you

  • hmm.... last post didn't seem to go through. anyways, long story short, how close is that UVB bulb to the uro, and what type and wattage is it?

Also, you know your stuff. Check out my video and tell me what you think.

  • You'll have to look at my other video that's called Pinecone's Tank. This is the current tank she is in and it is much more befitting

  • right on man

  • you put in water so they can bathe

  • no...no you dont...

I am pretty sure I mentioned this in the video but if I did not I appologize. Do not put water in their tank because it raises the humidity and cause tail rot. The best thing to do is soak their food, they will get plenty of water that way.

  • what do you think about a uro living with a bearded dragon? and do the uros really dislike handling?

  • Do not mix species..and they may not mind handling but you have to keep them in their tank UNDER their light, so that they can keep the proper temperature....that's the issue

  • ive been told that they get along pretty well and it would be totally ok if i were to keep both in the same tank. Quick question...why should i trust your opinion over the guy whos been working with lizards at the petstore? Are u a herpatologist?

  • Nope...and neither is he.

Now to answer the question the reason you can't put them together is because they both have different humidity requirements, heat requirements, and size requirements. It's not like putting a cat and a dog in the same room if they're "good tempered"...a beardie and a uro have totally different native climates and they also both carry different viruses...just like humans can get conjunctivitis from horses...beardies and uros can get each other sick

  • It's unfortunate that pet store workers spout off like they know what they are talking about when someone like myself who is not a trained professional still knows more than they do from reading books. If pet store workers took 1/2 the time enthusiasts like myself took to read up on their animals they care for we wouldn't end up with situations like this...whatever you do...i implore you...please put them in separate tanks

Take care! and best of luck!

  • Thanks alot i'm just gonna get one beardie...do you know if i can trust a breeder? An are they just as healthy as a regular one?

  • yes...you can trust a breeder more than a pet store....i don't know any beardie breeders but you can check out repticzone-dot-com and in their beardie forum you'll find people talking about breeders...you should check the forum out anyways to see what you're in for

  • I dont think u should put it with a beardie because uro's need less humidity

  • @TomoroFilms

I had a mali uro and bearded dragon living together in a 100 gallon tank for 6 years (they were both juviniles). My bearded is now dead because during their first fight, which happened 5 and half years into them living together, the mali bit off my beardies toe. He fought the ensuing infections for 6 months with the help of oral antibiotics and recieved 2 surgeries from a specialist vet but eventually died. Also, Look this up Devriesea agamarum causes dermatitis in bearded dragons

  • thank you for your story cmirb19...i'm worry that happened but hopefully it will go towards helping others understand the ramifications of putting two species in 1 tank.
