  • The Peabo Bryson the was THE best! It should be a single for reals!

  • @thesoapseduction I totally agree and just this week found out he was the singer!

  • Only 21 episodes left. Let's hope Frons and Co, the cast of the "Choke" and that new show (the one replacing OLTL) get burned by poisoned meatballs and choked with a Tampax string by the OB-GYN on the new show....I have boycotted ALL ABC PROGRAMMING. My boss said I am hardcore. lol

  • If Brian Frons and the other "execs" who made the call end AMC and OLTL would take their heads out of their asses, we would still have our shows on the air.

My opinion and past comments about Frons and Company have gotten me banned from the ABC boards and the OLTL link on Facebook. It's obvious that Frons knows soap fans are upset, can't handle the truth about anything, including himself.

  • All I can do is cry.

  • I remember most of these :) Really enjoyed watching this!

  • Love the theme song of the late 80's, but my favorite is the circa 1993 one with the champage. I know its kinda cheesy and racy for that time, but it's so soap opera! This was when people were watching soaps! Sigh! Still a soap fan, but I miss those days

  • Can't help but keep playing the 75-80 version over and over again...I just love the music...and the simple graphics!

  • Personally, I think Kathy Brier (Marcie, OLTL) should have sued Brian Frons and Anne Sweeney for the comments Frons made about her.

43 years and this idiot thinks that people have no interest in soaps? This guy needs to be locked in a room for 43 hours with angry AMC and OLTL fans.

I am a working college student, and I, like college students back in the 80 and 90's, dvr my soaps. The dvr replaced the vcr. I give "The Chew" until the end of the year...

  • The only one I remember is the one at 0:22 with the sunrise and the french horns opening. In my high school band, the french horn players all used to always play that when we were warming up, so that at one concert my band director had them all play that for the audience.

  • whos the guy at 2:05 with the smile

  • Guys, we can save OLTL! We can move it to NBC.

  • ABC would NEVER be so considerate to its daytime viewers by paying homage to this legendary drama. I will never forgive ABC/Disney for putting a sudden end to One Life to Live.

  • I'm going to miss them tears I love Viki

  • Should they show the very first episode before the finale?

  • With all the departures coming and (presumably) some past favorites returning before the end, I wouldn't mind them going back and using one of the old openings. I started watching with the "birds flying" opening, so that's the one that's most sentimental to me. But I loved the Peabo Bryson opening. They could run a montage of old clips with the Peabo Bryson opening. Would be very fitting for the show's final months.

  • @VAwriter I agree but I bet their budget is probably capped and they'll try to use their $ to get past people to come back. We might get some sort of tribute in the last week or two if we are lucky. But I don't think any of the other soaps exiting have done much with the openings as they exited.

  • I clearly remember the opening at 1:11 (80s baby!) Great post

  • EVANGELINE!!!

  • Will miss Llanview.

  • All good things..

  • I can't believe One Life to Live has been cancelled!!!

  • THEY JUST CANCELED OLTL RIP 1968-2012

  • The history of Llanview before our eyes! I remember the all of these credits, as my grandmother watched OLTL...And to think Brian Fronz wants to cancel this soap! If you have questions, please email me!

  • @MissDee091: Thats why I signed the online petition to have him fired...

  • 1:46

  • the super dramatic music with the sun coming over the grassy hill will always be MY OLTL! Vicki, Karen, Dorian (pre-cartoon), Joe, Marco, Ina, Pat, Tony, Paul, Edwina, Richard & Becky-Lee

  • The first one: BURNING IN HELL!! thanx 4 all the openings. FUN!

  • @yaywhewclips242 well, that makes sense. OLTL's original title was supposed to be called, "Between Heaven and Hell."

  • I LOVE the early '90s one! It reminds me of being a kid and just the 1990's in general rofl!

  • Ive been a fan since 2009 and it amazes me how much this show has changed and continued to grow!!

  • The earliest one I remember was the 1980-84 sunrise opening, the last one where Jack Urbont's theme would be used. Unfortunately, I developed a habit of staring at the sun as a child thanks to the opening, but thankfully I outgrew it and didn't lose my vision.

  • I for one loved the early 90s "sexy" one.Of course it was out there, but that made it entertaining as well, and it would never fail to make me chuckle about its sheer corny-ness!

  • I didn't know Roxy was in the opening a while ago in the one they have now.

  • The early 90's sexy opening was awful!

  • @GayUOPXBoy10 I agree!!

  • @GayUOPXBoy10 My God, it was awul, wasn't it? It looked like some soft core pornographic short. LOL.

  • I would say this will be the next casualty of the dying soap opera industry.

  • Kudos to OLTL for actually updating their openings unlike GH! It's sad when you see faces in the opening that aren't on the show anymore :(

Peabo Bryson's opening is so good! That was part of my childhood along with the sexy opening and the tour of Llanview one.

  • omg OLTL needs a new opening NOW!! And they should bring back the whole thing with adding the character's names to the intro too.

  • Do you think it was necessary to update the theme music and titles in order to appeal to ayounger audience?

  • i watched back in 94 in the summer and i remember that satin sheets one with the lady with the blue eyes and the champagne...i like the music and i like the one that has that 90s synthesizer sound lol

  • Oddly enough, I can remember the "fireplace" opening from 1968 (I was only four at the time) - I used to think the TV was on fire!

  • anyone remember Carlo Hesser? What a BADASS!!!!!!!

  • @gingi1979 I am sure he's still lurking somewhere around Llanview - just like Mitch Laurence, who, for some reason, CAN'T STAY DEAD!

  • i am so glad to know i'm not the only one who loves this kind of stuff!!!!!

  • Around 1974 there was a short-lived opening for OLTL that featured a wide show of the sun rising over a mountain followed by a slow pan of the mountain. Not that spectacular. The theme from 1968 was used for this opening.

  • The theme from the 80s was the best ever on a soap.

  • Thanks, I needed that. Such happy memories.

  • LOL I'm only 12 but the last one that is in the video is bringing back to like 2004. I was 6 that was the good old days. But still look at Star I forgot she used to look like that.

  • @ScarleteBabe I remember when Starr was BORN.

  • You should add the special Snoop Dogg opening theme to your montage. :)

  • yes one life to live is better than ever these days. and i love the the logo with the sky as the background.

  • Zeit der Sehnsucht

  • does anyone know where i can find the lyrics for the one that goes.. "heres what you do when you cant find the rainbows end"? i really like it. :)

  • @Mcbainxgirl I have included the lyrics in the video description.

  • :) alright thank you.

  • @Mcbainxgirl You'll find them by clicking on the tour of Llanview opening.

  • You for got one Opening the 1971 opening with the fire and the Log, the FLame And the Log!

  • @Gavb77ed I don't think I've ever seen that one. Is it on YouTube anywhere?

  • @whitbyterry There is no 1971 opening with a log and flames. That is just a custom made opening someone did of the original 1968-75 opening theme.

  • kinda glad ATWT is ending their show, the storyline has been so dry lately. OLTL has been great lately and one of the top rated soaps. it isn't ending anytime soon. but they do deserve a new opening

  • This is a great montage. I still hate the 1992-1995 one, it's so generic and condescending. Emmerdale did a better version of this type of "circle of soap life" opening.

I had forgotten that I didn't mind the 1995-early 00s opening so much. I always liked the shot of RH's Todd slightly tilting his head to look into the camera. That was so, so Todd, moreso than Viki's big grin, although Erika looks luminous.

  • If I did not say thanks for posting this, let me do that now. I love this post and thank you.

  • I have to say that OLTL had the some of the best theme song and opening backgrounds. From 1968-1995. After that well, I don't care much for the theme they been using for the past 14 years and the graphic opening to the show they been using since 2004 really sucks. I don't know the idoits at ABC made all their soaps have the same type of openings.

  • Unfortunately, I bet this will be the last opening for the show that we see. Assuming the show is not cancelled, I bet all the ABC soaps will eventually follow Y&R's lead and drop the opening title sequence.

  • What is worst is "ATWT". The last time I saw the show they didn't even have a theme song. It was just a quick photo of the world moving.

I wish that ABC would do something better with their soaps and fast.

  • Yes ATWT's opening is not very good. Its better than it used to be. DAYS is great in that it still has that hour glass in the beginning.

  • I have to say of all of the daytime soaps left, I like "DOOL" opening, I'm not really a fan of the show that much, but I do like how they managed to keep the theme and opening sequence for almost 45 years.

As for "ATWT", I only like the opening music they had from when it started up until around 1993.

  • Except now the opening of Days is shorter than it used to be.

  • I would have thought that OLTL would be the last one to be cancelled after GH and AMC. I hope it goes on for a while longer.

  • I kind of liked the 1984 opening. The one where they show the cast members and the town itself.

  • @coolwafferman I hated the newest most recent General Hospital opening but it had the same theme however. The only reason why I hated it was because of the words showing the names of the characters I can't see parts of on an analog set but can only see on youtube or hulu. HD in most cases.

  • @coolwafferman OLTL will probably be the next casualty of the dying soap opera industry.

  • @adheckle I heard that OLTL might be the next to go, but I also heard something about AMC. This is awful people are now predicting which soap will go. This should be a hint to the writers to do better work.

  • ....and to me the PORN opening is not the champagne one, but the current one. Everyone's pose has that "come fuck me look". OMG, watch Jessica's..... Welcome to daytime today, where everything's hittin' on shit.

  • Dang! I forgot all about Andrea's Tina replacement. She was A baad actress.

  • That was neat. I'm sorry that I've missed OLTL as I watched ATWT. They competed against each other but what I've read from, and award shows, and clips it looked like a jam up show too. IF that first opening was indeed their first opening I find it amazing that they were in color in 1968. I thought daytime didn't go to color until mid 1970's..... BTW, The "Peabo" theme is the best!

  • Love it Love it Love it... OLTL is simply the best!!

  • The one with Peabo Bryson singing brings back a lot of memories!!!

  • thats the best one out of all of them.

  • okay, what the hell was up with that opening shot of somebody's ass in Levis and the creepy grin at the camera????

a long way from sunrise and birds...lol

  • and the champagne cork popping..lol

  • @mnmcv1 Maybe that's supposed to depict what went on in Victor's secret room at Llanfair. : D

  • i like the one at 3:00

  • OLTL IS THE BEST SOAP EVER! IT IS MY PASSION! OLTL 4 EVA!!!!!!!!!!!! btw i lov the opening with the words at 1:47! i am not a big fan of the porn opening.......

  • amen, amen , agree 100%

  • Porn opening - lmao! what a way to put it!

  • Who is the actress (or character) at 2:00 that looks a lot like Patricia Arquette.

  • Jessica Tuck who played Megan Gordon, Viki's daughter.

  • That is actress Jessica Tuck---She played Megan Gordon from 1989-1992

  • I one I can remember is the 92-95 all the way until this present theme. I like all of openings better than this present one.

  • thank u for the post a great video i started in the 80s with thetheme song that had lyrics to it i remember it like it was yesterday.... great job

  • Laura Jean at 2:03-04. Wow this brings back memories!!

  • That was the best ride through history that I've had for ages. I've been watching OLTL almost from the start, and I could remember where I was during each of the title "eras." Thank you so much for posting this. I marked it as a favorite.

  • I'LL GIVE YOU TOMORROOOOOOOOW! Let me BE THE ONE to share it with!

  • And each day that follows. Cuz we only have One Life to Live!!! ☺ My 2nd fav behind the rising sun from 75-80

  • Funny as soon as I watched this, I heard the words and could sing them like it was yesterday when my mom used to watch....That Porn opening was lame, and really had nothing to do with the show at all, never liked it....One story line I have followed for years is Todd and loved Marty and Patrick, my fave OLTL couple ever!

  • Very nice montage. Thanks!

  • I never did like that "New Age" opening that ran from 1992 to 1995 - I never understood how it tied into the life of the residents of Llanview-

  • I was glad when they added the actors/actresses' headshots to the opening sequences - that lets me know who's still with the show and who isn't-

  • Yes that is a nice addition.

  • I actually remember the "fire" opening that ran from 1968-1975 - I used to think the TV was on fire!!

  • I actually call the theme that began in 1992 and ran to 1995, I call it the "Margarine Commercial" because that is exactly what is sounds like. It sucks and I remember thinking to myself, "why change from the great Peabo Bryson theme to this shit?!"

  • My mother started watching this show when she was in high school, and I remember the OLTL intro with Peabo singing when I was a little girl. I have been watching OLTL for about 2 1/2 years now ( since the took off my beloved Passions) and have been a fan of the show since.

  • The "Porn Opening" from late 1993 early '94 was when Linda Gottlieb took over as head writer for OLTL. Linda was the producer for "Dirty Dancing" Ha! May be the answer to her new opening for OLTL back then. Remember that this was the era when OLTL took on quite a bit of changes...Not always for the better if I remember correctly. Still miss the earlier days of OLTL...Mid to late 70s Seems the characters were more fully developed and sensationalized plots were less important.

  • The "Porn Opening" was made in late 1991 and came out at the start of 1992, not 1993.

  • ah mi cousin david lived in america for 20 years and loved watching it during the 1980s he was really pissed off when they changed the theme tune (And this is true) which resulted him to move here in uk, however he left in 1996 and missed 3 years of oltl so he stopped watching it and moved on to All my children

  • All of the themes were good. Loved ther 80s the best. Thanks for posting these.

  • My Fave was when Paebo sang the words & their faces popped up--in fact Megan was shown----1988-1992.....

  • That was February 1986 to December 1991. The first episode of 1992 had a new opening.

  • Yeah I remember watching this show when I was young. The opening song from Paebo Bryson brings a lot of memories. We had a recording on my family tape and I hear the bg of the music playing. Bittersweet memories.

  • I think I might have actually cried when I realized that Peabo's opening was gone and we were stuck with that porn opening. (I started watching OLTL because I liked to sing along with the theme song- no joke. I was a kid.) The original Tour of Llanview was the best opening, with the opening that began in 1995 in second. I still don't care for the blinged-up version of that theme they use now.

  • Peabo Bryson = BEST OPENING!

    PORN opening = awful!

That's when I stopped watching the show as a kid (and completely devoted myself to CBS)..that's why I'm still hooked on Y&R, ATWT, and TB and TB! I still blame my grandma...just can't get enough...it's the best medicine when you're sick at home.

    ~B

PS: I did the same thing...sang along with Peabo ;)

  • Yo where can I download this song? Can you help me?

  • My favorites were the first three, but the porn comment was priceless! Yes, they really started stinking starting from that porn opening that made me cringe. I second MelloCello:

    PORN opening = awful!!

  • I am glad to know that I wasn't the only one who thought that opening SUCKED - LOL! I always loved the one with Peabo. The visuals were good as well as the vocals.

I liked the one after it, though. I especially liked the part with Blair when she turned around. VERY HOT!!! That was back before they turned her into a dishrag, too. I loved it back when she and Todd got money and started getting back at their enemies together.

    Priceless!

  • There was actually words to one wow

  • I wish i could have seen episodes from before my time, 1968 started it all

  • When Did the Second Opening Start, Was it 70 or 75?

  • If I'm not mistaken the rising sun opening *ISIS FAVORITE btw* began in 1976*...and with it came some of the BEST years of OLTL!

  • I like all the one life to live openings. I think they fit for the particular era they were in. I started watching right before they started showing lanview and the theme song came out. They definetly made a step up with that opening and ofcourse that was my favorite. The one they have now is still very strong for today. You go oltl.

  • I just started watching the show about four or five years ago. The original opening theme was on at the beginning of the 2008's 1968 storyline.

  • The OLTL opening theme between 95- 2004 was the best

  • The 1968 fire opening was the best

  • LOL...we'll all have our faves...for me it was the 76-81 rising sun *aka the Karen Wolek/Ed and Carla Gray years*.

second to that for me would be the mid 80s theme with Peabo Bryson singing the vocals.

  • Ah, yes! The flame opening, and the rising sun opening....hadn't seen them in YEARS!!! In Los Angeles, I believe OLTL was played either between General Hospital and Dark Shadows; or following Dark Shadows (which followed General Hospital)...can't quite remember now (well, it WAS 40 years ago, now!) Whatever the case, my sister, my Mom and I always watched all three in a row! Watched Dark Shadows til it was cancelled, and GH and OLTL until the mid-Seventies.

  • I will tell what'll happen like the prologue of "Quantum Leap":

"Struck by lightning in the city of Llanview, Bo and R

  • I AM so sorry I had to interrupt.

"Struck by lightning in the city of Llanview, Bo and Rex unknowingly vanished. They awoke to find themselves in 1968, the time when Nixon became President, and the Vietnam War began. This time, Bo and Rex must find a way to get...back to 2008."

    That is special, right?

  • Great job on the Quantum Leap parody. I love that show.

  • Remember, One Life to Live turns 40 this year.

You hear that Bo and Lindsay are back? And Viki will be ZAPPED to Heaven! And you will see...guess who? Agnes Nixon, herself! And Bo and Rex will be "Quantum Leap'd" this time to 1968!!

  • Thanks Tripp. I watched the epiosdes surrounding their 40th anniversay and thought it was such an embarassment to the show. The trip back to 1968 was nonsense, Vicki's trip to heaven could have been great but it was stupid as well.

So draggy. There must have been 80 scences with Dorian standing outside trying to decide to save Vicki after the wreck. Jump to 11/09 and the return of Mitch so far has been a disappointment as well -- again so draggy. 5 episodes of Mitch in a shed. OK, MOVE ON!

  • The original opening is really creepy, when you consider that the producers almost titled the show "Between Heaven and Hell".

  • Wow they almost named it that!

  • Well, we are Between Heaven and Hell.

  • I know, thats not even creepy. I've heard far worse things.

  • This was great!!!!

  • THANKS for the great flashback!!!!!!

  • I wish Judith Light would come back as Karen Wolek.

  • Wow! Watching this brings back tons of memories of watching OLTL with my mom! She's passed on now, but this was her favorite soap, right to the end. Seeing all the old credits is a great trip dowm memory lane. The one with the seagulls was my earliest memories of OLTL! My favorite was the one in the 80's by Peabro Bryson! Snoop Doggs latest take on the theme was great also! Thanks for the soap memory!

  • snoop dogg?

  • WOW! I was singing my Mom the opening of sequence #5 the other day and she couldn't believe I remembered it. I brought this up and it was like a trip through my entire childhood. I always thought the furthest theme back that I remembered was the 4th theme of "Rainbows End" without lyrics. But when I saw the sunrise and seagulls of the third sequence, a flood of memories came in! I must have been about five years old. Thanks so much for posting this! It really brought back great memories.

  • Great montage. I enjoyed them all.

  • say, is it possible that you can do a similar opening titles montage for general hospital?

  • i like the one from 92-95 and from 98. i remeber the late 80's-early 90's but only the end credits. i never knew there was a theme song and peabo bryson sung it

  • Just so you know, the Tour of Llanview II opening is from December 1996, not 1998. That version was replaced in early 1997. In fact all versions with Dorian looking like that range from November 1995 to March 1998.

  • I was watchin it during the third intro lol. i was about 6 or 7 then i feel old not that Im 31 lol but i love seeing this.

  • Perhaps you should do an AMC Opening Titles Montage (1970-2004). (I'm referring to All My Children). That would be neat.

  • Wow! I am utterly amazed. Thank you so much for compiling these...and it was so high quality, too! Thanks for showing the history of OLTL's theme songs!!!!!!!!!

  • Wow! Great job!

  • Look how young Starr is....and now she's knocke up. Lol. Jk. The champagne was not my fav. Excellent job!

  • whose eyes r thoose on 2:22 the blue eyes whose r they?

  • Great Montage.

  • I loved this theme. It was good.

  • This is great. I have so much respect for this show, its history and how far it has come. I personally grew up with the second to last intro but love watching old clips and getting a better understanding of where everyone's coming from to this day on the screen. :)

  • I was born in 76 so but i love the first intro i love beautiful music like that lol

i was old enough to watch it during the third intro with the sky and birds. i think i was 6 or 7 then but also when i was teen i used to love the champagne opening. i used humm it all the time and used to sing the pebo bryson version too used to memorize the words as a kid in the eighties, i stopped watchin it when the switch todds cause there only one for me and he is on atwt now lol.

  • It would be cool if ABC used this montage for OLTL's 40th Anniversary coming up in July.

  • Yes, I agree, but it would be to long for them to do that. I think get a new opening and mark it at the end 40th anniversary and say one life to live. I want a new opening I think it is coming very soon because every 4-5 years OLTL changes it.

  • it would be cool to see this with some of the other soap themes as well

  • The early openings remind me of being a child at home with my mom. The music is totally soothing to me.

  • My two favorites were the 'tour of llanview' with peabo singing and the 1995-2004 opening

  • I began watching the show shortly after the "New Age" theme w/the champagne bottle corking & the baby debuted.

  • The 1968 fireplace opening is the best.

  • THis montage was AWESOME! Thanks for bringing back memories! I did not remember OLTL >1986 (when I started watching it), but thank you!

  • I love the ones from the 1980s, and the 1992-95 (the 92-95 is my favorite). also, does anyone have the OLTL closing credits between 1992-95?

  • check my channel and you'll see.

  • Ooo. So close. The opening would have been perfect if you didn't forget to add me in the current opening sequence.

  • :) yaaaay

  • How cool was that!!! Great job!

  • i liked the oltl theme in the year 1979 as well as the theme. very beautiful
