Ok, that's it! I'm putting in my order to Eurotubes for a tube kit for my 5150 Combo. Yours just sounds AWESOME! Which set of tubes did you get exactly? I was looking at the high gain set (I play a lot of de-tuned metal stuff)
Oh, and HOW are you getting that much Reverb out of your Combo? Are you running a Reverb pedal?
These are the standard 5150 combo re-tube kit. They are $84.50. I can't remember what my reverb setting is. It varies depending on the room. I am running a cheap DOD digital delay that I have had for 16 or 17 years.
Nice tone man. I own a Peavey 5150ii head & instead of replacing the stock tubes, I used 4x12 cabinets loaded with 75 watt sheffields (nstead of the stock 30watt sheffields that the 5150s come with) and because of the increased headroom, it seemed to make the amp's gain less abrasive & much more versatile!
@suzuki15 when you have an amp with annoying ly crisp highs like saaaay a fender champ or any cheamp combo amp you mjay want to make your tone a little more muddy to not be so bright
I wish I'd kept my Peavey Wolfgangs, they were ace guitars, much better then the fender ones. I had the black curve top and the red stain special top, very nice.
Really considering a combo 6505.. Can you tell me are they as loud as everyone says. I mean it seems like that's the biggest complaint , IT'S TOO LOUD. What's your take? THXS
Thxs, I was afraid of that. Maybe I'll wait for the 1x12 combo version coming out this year. I really wanna stay true to the EVH tone. Thxs again, nice playing.
if you have ever been to guitar center you know that they will let you play anything pretty much as loud as you want, well the 5150 combo was enough to get them to ask me to stop!!! i played a 6505 half stack and wasnt even able to get a good amount of distortion before i had customers complaining!! and when it was at about volume 1 it was making my pants shake when they were a foot away!!! yeah its way to loud and i love em. cant wait to get mine!!!!!
Thanks, sorry for taking so long, but here is what I had it on. Rythm Channel Bright/ Crunch Rythm Pre - 6.5 Low - 8 Mid - 3 High - 6 Reverb - 7 Post - .5 Resonance - 8 Presence - 7 I tend to change my settings depending on the room also.
Nvm that comment. Im stupid. That was the peavey. Anyway, which is more versatile, the wolfgang or axis? Like which can you play most different types of music and it still sounds "inherent"?
In my opinion that would be the wolgang. I think it has a fatter, smoother tone than the axis. It has a good sound played clean as well as distortion.
Guitars? I kinda lean toward the wolfgang most of the time. I like it for the warmer tone. The axis is slightly hotter. Right now I like my telecaster the best. :-D
I'm looking to get this amp off of craigslist for about $400.
I play rock and roll - metal.
And a fair amount of clean stuff.
Any suggestions on the best tone? Should I switch the tubes as opposed to stock?

Definatley too loud for the house. The only time I get to crank this thing is when everybody is gone. It will shake the windows!

Is that just the regular axis? It doesn't look like it has a toggle switch but a pickup splitteR?
