"I picked this baby up at the swap meet in El Segundo. The guy wanted 25K but when I told him I was a cop and only had 20K cash on me he sold it to me. I never regretted the purchase. It took amazing photos. Unfortunately I don't have it anymore. I ended up trading it straight across for a ..."

  • I would let my employer buy this, and I will take all of the credit for my work. Saves money

  • A Canon 5D2 wil do the job too..What a waste of money.Next summer the 5D3 comes out whit 48MP .It wil blow digital medium format right out off the sky.

  • @helthuismartin Wont it still have a 35mm sensor though?

  • @helthuismartin Not really. The HUGE difference (why the price is especially different) is the fact that the 5D3 is a 35mm format camera. Not a medium format camera. The rumours for the 5D3 by the way, is that it will be a more improved 5D2 (just with a 22mp sensor instead of a 21.1), but a lot faster. There's rumours of a 5D X with a 45mp sensor however.. but I assume if they make the 45MP sensor.. they'd just make that.

  • i am sick and tired with all these people which are not able to understand the difference between 35mm and MF or they are just jealous. There is a reason why all great professional photographers shoot with MF cameras and the reason is far more than their "desire" to spend 40-50k on a camera. Firstly an MF camera is an Investment for a pro photographer and secondly is not the camera you are going to upgrade every year due to Nikon-canon marketing.

  • @TelisRafa all great professional photographers shoot with MF? Listen to what you are saying? Get your head out of your ass man.

  • @TelisRafa Yep it has to do with pixel density, anti aliasing/sharpness. The MF sensor allows better DOF and detail.

  • Don't buy, rent!

  • I see no differance between them at all.

  • @helthuismartin that may be due to the fact that the video doesn't capture more than a fraction of the detail available. Pretty Pointless indeed to do videos on high end cameras for detail demonstrations

  • the guy on the right reminds me of Brad Pitt in inglorious bastards

  • I used an H4D but with 40MP back and I will honestly say that it was a very nice camera. BUT,I kept my 1D series cameras.A good photographer doesn't need 20 extra megapixels to crop off because its a waste of money if you are throwing half of your image away on most of your photos. That's where learning to compose and use your lenses comes in. If the H4D were a Porsche then the 1DsMk3 is like a Chevy. The Porsche is sexy and nice but the Chevy is much more reliable, you can do more and its cheaper!

  • i would rather buy a car for the price of that camera lol i enjoy my canon mk 4

  • By the way. The top of the line full-frames from Canon & Nikon will improve their image quality while Hasselblad won't change anything in terms of "Workability".

  • Half year ago (when I was a 1Ds MKIII owner) I was thinking about to get a Medium Format.

I tested the H4D-40. Thirst thought: "why to hell are you looking so incredibly ugly??!". After a day of outdoor-portrait shooting I compared the results. There was a difference in image quality...but no significant that justify 25'000 or even 50'000$. In the most genres of photography you have no chance to use these typ of cam, due to lack of flexibility, speed and even functionality.

  • Also, if you have a Canon and want higher resolution, buy an MPE-65, it has a 5x magnification. There's no other lens like it. That said, I like how with the Medium format Hasselblad the lens can go to f44, increasing the depth of field without much loss in sharpness. The Canon gets soft at f16 or so.

  • @Diamonddavej The MPE 65 is a macro lens, that doesn't really help in most situations does it.

  • @CoreyRive I think you meant Micro lens. Yes, its highly specialist, cannot even focus to infinity. The two lenses used here were macro lenses.

Actually the Hasselblad macro images are very similar to pics taken by my Tokina macro, the chromatic aberration and purple fringing look so similar. That's why I'm interested in upgrading to an Apochromatic macro lens - the Sigma 150mm is the only Apo lens for canon (now the 125mm Voigtlander is out of production).

  • There's allot of Longitudinal Chromatic Aberration (3:27 pink and green highlights) in the image of the ring taken with the Hasselblad 120mm macro lens. For the price, I'm surprised it's not an apochromatic lens. The Canon lens (4:17) has almost no LCA, the image looks better, the highlights are pure white.

  • What an educational and eye opening video. That first shot by the Hasselblad blew me away!

  • Well I was expecting some amazing revelation at the end!

  • Can I have that 10mins and 24 seconds back please?

  • @jgarfieldphotography you didn't like it and sat entirely through it?

you don't deserve your 10 minutes back !!

  • I don't see how you could ever pay like $50,000 for a camera.

  • @x0scimy0x for consumer or enthusiast applications, there is no purpose.

for professional use, the kind where you can get payed a few grand per image license rights, there is more than enough reason to get a camera that costs 10+k

  • @alidan I suppose but man it seems like you could spend that much money otherwise

  • The Hasse looks like a big plastic turd. I would NEVER pay that much for such a piece of shit. I would rather buy nikon, canon with lenses and take photos. no one is going to tell what camera you used.

If you really need hd shoot film.

  • @CEEPMDEE do you take pictures in rough conditions?

  • OMG ! digital photography is boring .... !!! :o)

  • in Russia we call it lilia

  • Hey people, shut the hell up with, "How can you compare the two!?!?!" . READ THE DESCRIPTION for the video

  • WHAT IS THE BEST CAMERAS EVER for landscapes? Fast Moving (sports)? Still Life (people)

  • well i guess you could argue that the 1D is by far less expensive, but that the hasselblad has got a way better and bigger sensor which makes it so damn good..

still tho, im surprised how well the 1D kept up with the hasselblad!

  • That is realy the top off the line digital camera and also completed whit very nice software this Hasselblad camera.

  • ya, its also like 50,000$ more!

  • The knob could of taken out the chewing gum from his mouth before the demonstration!

  • hasselblad is pretty sexy.

  • this guys sounds a little like Michael Douglas.

  • I have the same ring they were taking pictures of:D

  • Whilst the results are certainly impressive, they would be better still if shot on film.

  • He is casually holding the 42,000 dollar camera with one hand lol

  • Thats like comparing Lexus with BMW or mercedes

  • ROMANIAN shit !

  • Hi. I'm a Mac.

    And I'm a PC.

  • can you make videos with a hasselblad? and also why is a hasselblad so expensive? is the sensor made out of gold?

  • @WindowsSoftwareDe Hasselblad is like 50 megapixels. Which is ridiculous.

  • Wow!! Fuck yeah!! A true eye porn.

  • The guy in black tshirt is like WTF??? With the russian guy.. lol. Pretty annoyed but still manage to smile.. Lol

  • This video is like comparing an orange to a juice squeezer :).

  • Dude in the black shirt looks like Thomas from The Event

  • hey can i use phocus on a canon or only hasselblad's?

  • @wahwahpedalmaster I do not think so (dd not check it though)

BTW, Canon software has very similar remote focus adjustements..

  • @AKELstudio whts the name of the software for canon where i can to the remote focusing?

  • @wahwahpedalmaster it is called Canon Remote Capture or something like this, it is on the disk you get with your DSLR

  • stupic vs!!!!!!

  • @applenokiabry Thank you!

  • My Canon Ixus 200 IS delivers much better images than those cameras.

  • @terminatorandre are you a retard? you are comparing a camera with no manual controls. And the sensor is smaller and you can't compare that little camera to this gigantic baby. These camera delivers more than a thousand times better images than your ixus 200

  • @TechnomTigerGeek No, I am not a retard, I think. Or maybe I am just too retarded to see that I am actually a retard. One of lifes mysteries I guess. By the way, the comment about my 10 000 $ Ixus 200 was sarcasm. Even the most retarded of all living creatures could figure that out ;-)

  • @terminatorandre lol sorry for callin ya a retard but lol anyways

  • Polariser for specular highlights

  • this is like making pictures in vector

  • Awsome camera. Definitively a buy, when i win the lottery, :)

  • Seriously, does ANYBODY look that close at a photo they take to justify spending $25k-$40k on the Hasselblad vs $5k on the iDs Mk3? I think this is a great example of major hair-splitting. The truth is that unless you are planning to create banners the size of Jupiter out of the photos you take and sell them to your clients, why the hell would anybody ever consider such a gross overkill of a camera? It's not even as classy or refined as the Canon. It looks like an old, plastic camcorder.

  • @FlightSimTutorials Well, I am going to replace my 1Ds MKIII with $30K MF camera soon. Canon simply can't give me the quality my clients expect to receive.. (talking about sharpness/details/image resolution).

BTW, it is not about huge postes, but mostly about ability to crop a lot and still get very good resolution image. AD agencies need this.

  • @AKELstudio lol were you using raw or jpeg?

heeeh i wish i was rich enough to afford these things :(

  • @AKELstudio why crop a lot? why not get it right in the camera?

  • @AKELstudio

Lol cropping a lot takes the skill away.

  • @AKELstudio or they need to know what they want, so you can photograph what then want without having to crop later.

  • yes but, will it blend?

  • @timar03 I suspect not. I doubt the Blendtec blender has a "Medium-format button"

  • Круто конечно, даже подержать такую камеру в руках уже большая радость

  • apples and oranges

  • i see youtube on the right computer! 2:07

  • Also, my sincere comment about the video is that, it somehow leaves me without a definitive takeaway.

  • I see there is an emphasis on tethered live focus on H. As I recall, isn't this possible on 1DsMk3? I remember using it using EOS Util. It would be nice to see color rendition of H and 1Ds3. Comparison would be fair if both use the same lens (somehow).

  • @bsmanohar Yes, there is a fine focus adjustements on a canon via remoe shooting. Very similar to HS

  • @bsmanohar You can also do this on a 5d2

  • Not even, its more like a $6500 to $35k difference..and a 21mp to 50mp comp...

  • how heavy is a 50 MP picture?

  • Those two cameras are tethered from camera to computer.

Why don't you show us shooting wirelessly?

If you were using the ATG AK1 Un-Tethered Systems, you could be shooting wirelessly from both cameras.

At $9,500.00 and $50,000 plus cameras and you are shooting with a cord.

Why didn't you just hook up the cord for your studio lighting?

  • @angelisone Hm.. why not to shoot woth the cord? It is faster and more reliable.. did not get what youa re saying.. Oh, may be cord is not cool enough? :-)

  • it'd be interesting to see it tested against a Leica s2 similar sensors and mega-pixel count.

  • I have never seen anything so cool in my life (in photography) at 03:20. omg honey just came out from my litlle dingy..

  • Why all these comments about using a Hasselblad for shooting fast action? Isn't it obvious that such cameras are not meant for it?

  • Live view remote shooting is amazing!

  • Very impressive on both platforms. The Hassy is killer.

  • Fortunately I have both cameras. The Hassey no doubt delivers a better image. but considering the sensor size i dont expect less. the canon is by far more user friendly and better in term of speed.

I think also that there is no basis for comparison. First, canon is a 35mm while hassey is a medium format .

  • @hspimages1

Agree with you on a first sentence. You know both and you know what the best use of each.

As for the besis for comparison, for me it was the image quality: the only "common" thing both camera can be compared with. I do not have Hassy, so it was interesting to me the difference in the image quality.

  • @AKELstudio i must say that i have personally benefited from your research base video. My argument is that it is obvious that Hazzelblad with its monstrous sensor size should have better image quality. on the flip side lets assume the canon also has 50mp sensor, the difference in image quality may not be that noticeable. Not withstanding any argument for or against both cameras are beautiful pieces of equipment

  • @hspimages1 Yep, I think the same:-)

Curious to see how 1dsMK IV will perform: if it will have at least 30 Mpx and 16 bit A/D sensor.. that would be a great camera..

On other hand, PhaseOne and Hassy will release something new as well:-)

  • @hspimages1 You have both, so there was not interested for you. I run a test to find how much it is different. What do you mean no basis?

  • @hspimages1 The Hasselblad cost 5 times more and it delivers not a picture 5 times bedder than the Canon.,Hasselblad has always been insane overpriced for the last 60 years.,Even for a 500CM whit a 50 ,80 and a 150mm lens ,they were asking 25000euros.They waitet to long for going digital sothey bankrupt and Fujie was taken over the name Hasselblad,Even the lenses are no longer made by Zeiss which was a big mistake, now Kyocera is making them not even Fujie itself.

  • Так я вот как то до конца не понял что луше Canon или Hasselblad???

По мне так Canon, бо слишком сильна моя любовь к ихним зеркалкам))

  • pretty much like Toyota vs Ferrari

  • @deus04rome Hm.. not really.. Try to take Hassy to a formula one or any other sport action shooting.. you'll simple FAIL with it there.. I would say it is like submarine vs aricraft..

  • @deus04rome I HAVE BOTH HASSELBLAD MAMIYA AND HASSELBLAD AND THE BEST ONE ACCORDING TO ME IS THE CANON. THE 21 1DS IS MORE THAN ENOUGH. AND MUCH EASIER TO WORK WITH. BUT ITS FUN TO WORK INSIDE WITH THE BLAD.

  • the hasselblaad is far better, here is your evidence. The price may be high but they are the best cameras ever made except from leica of course

  • @BarleyYorkshireMan Leica is useless camera for a pro, IMO. Only may be for a repotrers. but 10 fps nikon or canon would be much better choice even there. Not saying about studio work.

You are saying Hasselblad is better, but not specifying where. Image quality - yes. Speed, rigity, controls - canon winner.

Try to use Hasselblad for sprot action shooting, where guys work with 8-10 fps?

They are a very different animals, and both are great cameras.

    Everythoing is relative:-)

  • @AKELstudio Leica great street photography. lightweight large frame, quality lenses. Leica m9 makes you be a photographer and not a computer operator

You are correct saying the Blad & the Canon different animals. Used for different purposes

  • @AKELstudio leica is useless for a pro? haha.... funny

  • 3:34 vs 4:50

  • @Calbeee

It does not look orange tome.. If you meant a difference in white ballance/color tone on both shots, this is how each camera rendered the image: i did not adjust it so the test will be "cleaner". What you see is as-is ime from a cameras.

  • why the metalic accessory look so orange on the canon?

  • @Calbeee

Sorry, did not get it. What accessory you are talking about? give me exact time of the event on the video, I'll try to catch that moment..

  • ..I think I just got an mental orgasm by dreaming of these two cameras.... I think I have to throw away my ordinary Nikon and Sony cams now.... :( so sad about the price for the hasselblad and the canon....

  • @SimplyHotter

    Mental orgasm! Wow.

This is the most complimantary comment I ever had so far:-)

Those cameras is just a cool toys, unless you have a customer who will be willing to pay for such quality. Othervise, Canon 5D MkII will do the same job for much less money:-)

    Cheers

    Alex

  • One guy chewing gum like a cow all the time and the other doesn't even know the model of his "workhorse" by heart :D

You guys should start a TV show...thanks for the smiles !!!!

  • @Nilz4FR you forgot to mention my funny English :-) also, we did not wear white shirts...

The show? You've just seen one!

    Thank you:-)

  • я не сразу догадался, что вы из россии :D русские фотографы лучшие!

  • @ReamKovalski кхе-кхе... как то нескромно получается: -))

  • @AKELstudio простите, понимаю

но у меня не было слов описать удивление :D

  • @ReamKovalski :-))
