  • No two hormones can coexist in the blood stream..

  • Insulin is the most anabolic hormone in the human body. All it does is get the sugar out of your blood into the tissues (including fat cells but also muscle cells) - and this is what you want to happen as the muscle cells need that energy to repair. Its simple sht, I wouldn't worry too much about spiking your insulin at all - your body will still secrete growth hormone when sleeping. Ive seen no studies showing that eating carbohydrates before bed will supress GH secretion.

However, the whole point when you're trying to build muscle is to MAXIMIZE the amount of HGH and Testosterone (along with keeping your body in an ANABOLIC state), and the advise these guys are giving is aimed towards helping you do that.

  • @nandoanalog They talking shit, growth hormone STIMULATES IGF-1 production (Insulin Growth Factor), and its IGF-1 which which affects the muscles, not the GH. So people take Insulin directly without having to stimulate it by taking GH. The risk in that is you can overload in insulin and give yourself Diabetes. GH releases it more slowly and naturally so your body can cope without becoming resistant.

    Complex Carbs till 5-6pm and Good Fats after that. Protein all around at every meal. Your last meal 4 hours before you sleep.

  • @muscleman677 the reason they will give you is your recovery/muscle growth period is when you sleep. Your muscles grow and recover the way they need to to see good gains only once you hit r.e.m. sleep. So if you are only gettin short 4 hours periods of sleep, even if you get 3 of those 4 hour periods of sleep throughout the day, you will not hit r.e.m. sleep and will not see as good of results you would like. That is why you wanna keep ur insulin low b4 bed. thats when hgh matters most

  • As for protein shake I think if somedy has a aerobic activity in the morning (run, jogging, tennis etc.) he should take 1 dose of whey protein. Then between the lunch (after training) and the dinner one dose of Whey Protein, that's sufficient, as protein you get anyway at lunch.....If somedy is really thinny he should take three times a day one dose of Whey. But people of the same type as TWINS not more as two doses per day as max!

  • Yes another good issue from TWINMUSCLEWORKOUT: The last meal should be cold meal with some vegetables, some low quantity of ham, salami or sausage, dark bread....and from pills, maybe tribulus terrestris is good before sleep and maybe a pill of selenium for people over 50..... That's all....

  • I agree generally but if you're a true ectomorph, I really don't see it as a problem. i'm currently bulking and getting in my protein and I have at times ate some junk before bed and though i've put on some fat, it's nothing that can't be shed once I cut.

  • @BennekeVN White bread is no diffrerent to eating sugar on a GI level. Wholemeal is better but much too starchy for before bed. Also milk will spike your insulin too. You're much better off having a protein shake with water, ham and maybe some egg whites if you want extra protein. Take this with peanut butter for slow release energy.

  • the difference in HGH in the first 2 hours of sleep is about as relevant as the 45 minute "supplement" window post workout. the difference in muscle gains over eating carbs at night and not eating carbs at night will be so little it's not even worth mentioning. what matters is what carbs you eat and how much of them you eat. too little, and no muscle. too much and you're fat.

  • @BennekeVN if its a slow digesting carb(brown rice, oats...) it wont matter because of their low GI and dont spike insulin, just stay away from the sugars before going to bed

  • @BennekeVN yes it's insane. 3 slices of bread is between 40-80 grams of carbs which is what you should be taking before you go to the gym. Switch those carbs earlier in the day and just make your meals during the day bigger than the last meal of the day have a higher protein source with some fat and vegetables. That way you get all your calories in and don't screw up you hormones. Personally I have a can of tuna and a cup of broccoli about 2hours before I go to sleep.

  • @ampdgmr no he said dont spike your insulin. Assuming you are drinking WHOLE milk, that shit has alot of fat, fat will keep your insulin from spiking. Also oats are not "simple carbs". Check out the "insulin index" to learn what will spike your insulin. remember that fat will keep insulin from spiking so eat your simple carbs if you must, but do it with meals.
