The chipmaker Intel has halted shipments of its new "Sandy Bridge" processors and says it will have to spend a total of $1bn (£600m) fixing a fault, delaying hundreds of new PC models for up to three months and potentially stifling growth in the personal computer market.
Will the Mobile version allow backwards compatibility as in socket type? My socket on my Lenovo is the Socket 989 rPGA. I see that on the specs, that some of the Sandy Bridge CPUs use this socket. Does it have a different amount of pins and I'm hoping too much?
i have a question friend i ask many but no one gave me proper answer whats the different between sandy bridge and old one i7 coz if u take out build in graphic its all same old i7 right??? or this new i7 well be faster then old one coz i am gamer sure i go with gtx 580 or 6980 so having i7 sandy bridge or old i7 make any different or its built in graphic and media converter support more to boost it?? so much confused help me
@tomyloveu Sandy Bridge is still faster than the old 1156 i7 processors, because it's a far more efficient architecture. If I recall correctly, Sandy Bridge processors are around 20% faster per clock.
Try not to hate, Intel is just trying to constantly evolve, and even AMD knows and respects this, new motherboards, CPUs and chip sets means new money flowing and more jobs, and in the end lower prices on their desktop CPUs and AMDs.
Yes it might seem stupid, but the best explanation I can come up with is that the EXtreme edition core i7 will have OverClocking capabilities, hence the 10W higher TDP, while the rest will not, and there is a pretty big premium to pay for that!
Intel is always raping everybody with their new cpus by changing the socket every f*ckin time. On universal coolers they say things like "supports LGA775, LGA1156, LGA1366, and AMD!!" now they're gonna have to say "supports LGA775, LGA1155, LGA1156, LGA1366 and AMD!!" whereas amd's socket AM3 is partially backwards compatible with am2+ and am2. you can get an am2 board that supports modern am3 cpus!!!
@psychoclown420 Umm, thats why AMD CPU's aren't as good as Intel. The 6 cores is what i would call a fail since the old i5 760 can beat it hands down.
@psychoclown420 The LGA1155 has the same mounting holes as LGA1156! Oh, and since Intel added a n inchip GPU and Northbridge, a socket change was mandatory. Thumbs up so all can see.

Thats stupid that the Core i7 extreme edition is 1000 dollars and its only 10mhz faster than the 500 dollar one. Everything else is the same.

@bg048 Im agreeing with you that the price is very high but doesent it have 6 cores? 2+ more then the others.
Penquis100 1 year ago
@Penquis100 The Core i7-2820QM, and the Core i7 extreme edition 2920XM both have 4 cores and both are HT, so both have 8 threads.

@psychoclown420 Yeah but AMD doesn't innovate as much as Intel does for CPUs, Intels just blow AMD CPUs away in terms of raw performance.
