  • 4:34 - is that supposed to be bowie he's shaking hands with?

  • i think this sequence alone is better than the actual movie

  • Comment removed

  • Such a great movie, and I absolutely love the opening credits! Such beautiful effects!!

  • BOB (L

  • song?

  • @Raazuus09 The Times They Are A-Changin' by Bob Dylan

  • @Raazuus09 The Times they are a-changing, by Bob Dylan

  • At 1:07 you can see the Sailor who would have kissed the girl. The director is a genius!

  • I have no idea what the top comments are saying

  • @Fawksau

He says: "I've been watching that movie yesterday... it's great guys!".

You should learn German. It's easy and Germans are funny guys.

  • @MadroschkaSU Oh, ok. Thanks

  • The Times They A-Changin is the song!!!!!

    is a very cool song

  • 2:28 Zaprunger filming...

  • Superhero Film Noir. Probably the best comic adaptation ever <3

  • For those who dont know the intro is to tell the audience how the Watchmen affected history in this movie's universe. Nixon orders JFK's killing by the Comedian and he also ends the war in Vietnam in a few days with Dr.Manhattan, making him insanely powerful.

  • @tobBabashkin "surely" my understanding of this movie differs from yours. But that doesn't even change the fact, that this movie is f***ing awesome. Besides, i did realize that there is not even one "superhero" in this movie

  • @tobBabashkin Actually, superheroes are the characters. Not the setting. duuur lol.

  • @thargorzz A superhero is someone who fights for what is right.

  • @ThePeacefulAtheistt prove it,, commi!

  • @ArtieLangeXM at 2:41 you can see The Comedian with a rifle

  • @tobBabashkin for such a dumbass statement one should be punished

  • @thargorzz Really? Surely you understand that this movie is not about superheroes.

Its about society when it gets monopoly on superweapon. But the fact is, in that fantasy world headliners in the USA once would say: "Russ have their own Dr. Manhattan, and he glows red".

  • Das Lied heist: The times they are a changin!

    Super Film!

  • 2:41 So it's ture! Lee Harvey Oswald was not the killer! The Comedian was!!!

  • @ThePeacefulAtheistt Acting as an assassin for the government.

  • What a dumbass movie. The logic of the Cold War always stays the same, even in a fantasy world: if the USA developed a superheroes, it means that the USSR has already got its own superheroes.

  • @tobBabashkin It's about how superheroes would be in real life. The cold war was just the setting.

  • @applejuice54321 Cold war wasn't just the setting. As Vietnam war and civil unrest in authoritarian USA. How could Nixon be re-elected if society itself wasn't totally corrupted with absolute power of industrial elites after they gained such a monopoloy on superweapon.

If the U.S. have created a Dr.Manhattan and used it for their own political purposes, the USSR definately wouldn't stay outside. Soviets would accept the challenge and created their own Dr.Manhattan.

  • @tobBabashkin

    are you that stupid?

the us didn't create doc, he was created by accident, just like the flash for example.

and for soviets would go fuck themselfes after what manhattan did in vietnam.

having read the comic would be a good start for you.

  • @tobBabashkin The reason Nixon got elected 3 times is because of his huge success in Vietnam ( Dr. Manhattan ) and his successful cover up of the watergate scandal ( Dr. Manhattan )

  • @applejuice54321

"The reason Nixon got elected 3 times is because of his huge success in Vietnam"

    - Its the year 1985. Its not the 1973 (end of nam war in our world) and not the 1977 (end of Nixon era if there was no Watergate). Running more that 2 terms is unconstitutional. With monopoly on superweapon (Dr. Manhattan) and corporatocracy USA became police state.

  • @tobBabashkin I do know for sure that Nixon asked Manhattan to help in Vietnam as it is outlined in the comic as well as the movie. I also looked into this and came to the conclusion that members of the senate and congress were bribed to create an amendment to the constitution that let Nixon run for as many terms as he wanted. When it says on the TV "Nixon elected for third term" that is in 1977 as the riots against vigilantism were going on.

  • Challenge: Make the greatest film intro of all time.

    Mission Accomplished.

  • @SadBossKey I understand I didn't really like this movie the first I saw too. Try watching it again you might like it the second time.

  • i felt so sorry for dollar bill...... got his cape caught in the revolving door and was shot to death because he couldn't move

  • @Taud i thought his cape would have ripped in the door but oh well r.i.p dollar bill :P

  • i fucking hated this movie. and before everyone bitches at me for not liking it, calm your tits. let me explain:

first, if you havent read the comics, fuck off. you dont know shit about good stories. this sucks in comparison.

second, the movie forgot what it was trying to do several times. like three times in the movie a full song was played to the backdrop of people walking or superheros taking pictures, it would be decent as viral marketing, but there is NO need for it.

  • @SadBossKey comics are shit movies are better because you can understand them more

  • @SadBossKey

Well I haven't read the comics, but I wont fuck off. I loved the movie because I thought it had a good story. I read Harry Potter, Lord of the Rings, A song of Ice and Fire (a few examples), so mayby I don't know good stories, but I do know GREAT stories.

But if you say the comics are much better, I will try to get my hands on them and see for myself if you're right.

And please don't go around and tell random people to fuck off, if they haven't read a comic yet.

  • @LeinadEstel i didnt mean fuck off in general, allow me to apologize and reprhase my words:

i meant "fuck off if your going to tell me its good based off only the movie", apologies, sir. have a good day.

  • @SadBossKey

    Oke no worries :)

I think you feel the same as I do about the HP and LotR movies. That can indeed be anoying,

  • @LeinadEstel I saw the first "Lord of the Rings" on the big screen 7X - Peter Jackson got THAT one right (I've been reading Tolkien since I was 9). So movies aren't always inferior to the written form.

I personally LOVE the "Watchmen" movie and wish I HAD seen it on the big screen.

  • @jayatfreelance

I never said the movies of LotR were bad, I've watched them a few times myself. (although the books are better in my opinion) I just responded to someone that I do know great stories.

Personally I enjoy the movie Watchmen to, but the one I responded to said the comics were better. In general books are better then the movies, so I am curieus about the comics Watchmen, because I expect them to be even better then the movie.

  • @LeinadEstel I never said you said that - I just wanted to cite an example of a movie fulfilling a written work's vision: Peter Jackson's "Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring" did that.

I do think it's pointless to compare written works with cinema on merit - they're apples & oranges. The question that needs to be asked is if a cinematic treatment stays true to or gives a fresh interpretation of a written work.

  • @jayatfreelance Yeah, the hardcore canon-obsessed fanboy/girls always bitch about perfect minute details and perfect accuracy with the original works, but that really is impossible when translating anything to a movie; some things will always have to be omitted or slightly changed. Watchmen and LoTR are two examples of great movie adaptations though, both are masterpieces in their own respective rights.

  • @VisionQuest057 Thanks - I couldn't have said it better than you did just now!

  • @SadBossKey dont criticize what u dont understand

  • In Dc everything exsist with each other so all the hero's in Dc were on the same land but this is during a different time period their for if batman was with watchmen then his parents would've been killed earlier @Ace4929

  • i think that it is pretty cool that whatshisface saved the waynes, but does that mean that in this world batman doesn't exist?

  • As a person who loves history, superheroes, and bob dylan, this is an eyegasm

  • epic start to a movie

  • @thesouthrapsucks yeah, one of the best along with a clockwork orange and reservoir dogs

  • frikin EPIC specially at 3:29 - 3:32 .

  • "God doesn't make the world this way we do" sums up the movie for me :)

  • Zack Snyder makes the best intro´s ever

  • the truth is a joke

  • Did the comedian kill JFK?? (2:45) why?? Rorschach in 2:10!!

  • 1:08 Love the real scene, but this parody they made. Genius.

  • If there's one thing you have to give Snyder, it's that he knows how to put together an intro sequence.

See also: the "Man Comes Around" opening in his "Dawn of the Dead" remake.

  • @Medafets 3:42 kent state shootings, i think.

  • Comment removed

  • @Medafets + JFK being shot at 2:31

  • just here to listen to bob dylan.. =D

  • Bob Dylan brought me to this Whole movie, and the Movie introduced me to the comic. Which was Awesome, I Highly recommend the Comic and The Movie.

  • Shame this is the only good scene in the film

  • look!!! 0:01 BATMAN in the wall

  • one of the best intro ever with one of the best song ever

  • Great film...well made and very detailed...reminded me of blade runner in some sequences

  • best scene in movie, if only the rest was as awesome as this

  • Is that the comedian that shot Kennedy?

  • @narutojames225 indeed it was.

  • @narutojames225 heh yeahh apparantly. lol!

  • Best movie ever.

  • The song is Times They Are A Changing Lyrics by Bob Dylan

  • Rorschach-WHERES MY FACE oh wait its watching the amazing theme to my film :P

  • Watchmen is a great example of neo-noir film. The characters have questionable morales, it's very dark, and filled with flashbacks.

  • @Medafets Holy shit.

  • Excellent intro, and probably the best bit of the entire film!

  • EXCELENTE CÓMIC! EXCELENTE PELÍCULA!

  • i like rorschach... he's damn cool about everything....

  • Thanks for posting the actual video instead of a FUCKING COVER you are truly awesome

  • Comment removed

  • eddy blake killed John f. kennedy because he wouldnt let DR manhatten enter the vietnam war right?

  • @harvesterofgamez133 More likely for opposing the Dogmas of the Chicago Boys and feral capitalism

  • @harvesterofgamez133 no, he was working for Nixon.

  • 3:43-3:55 Best!!!

  • @dbddhkpsavidf can u send me like wikipedia link or something of what that was all about, because it interested me? :)

  • @EmoFoom It is history, the good is subsituted with heroes, and the bad is put out plainly.

  • @Oolliwan14 even the heroes can't be said to be good in The Watchmen.

Captain Metropolis was a racist, Hooded Justice was abusive, The Comedian was an amoral rapist and a self admitted child killer, Ozymandias is a genocidal egomaniac, Dr. Manhattan can barely retain human empathy ...and Rorschach is Rorschach.

  • @crazedmongoose03

completely agree. I love Watchmen for the simple fact that it's a complete psychological cut-down of heroes in general; They're only as good as the world they live in; morally compromised in their own ways, and that the world can often turn a blind eye to it in times of necessity. I wish when i was in school, we got to study Watchmen; there so much to it

  • @crazedmongoose03

    And Rorschach is a sociopath.

  • @crazedmongoose03 A microcosm of modern society perhaps?

Seriously, I think the entire cast is something of how people take prejudices to the extreme and with such power in their hands they fulfill such prejudices...or I am delving too deep into what is essentially a comic book...man I need to cut down on the pot...

  • @crazedmongoose03 but rorschach is awesome

  • @crazedmongoose03 I lold at "and rorschach is rorschach"

  • @crazedmongoose03

Ozymandias wasn't genocidal. Or really an egomaniac. He intentionally got average grades in school, despite the fact that he was absurdly brilliant. He's one of my favorite heroes of all time, because he was brilliant enough to abstain from vanilla morals in favor of the greater good in perhaps the most personally sacrificial way possible.

  • @Aburaishi You don't have to convince me. Ozymandias is my favourite character, I LOVE Ozymandias.

But you must admit that he is hubris incarnate. Everything he does to project modesty further serves his personal hubris. ie. he gives away his parents money to prove, maybe to himself, that he himself is good enough to make a fortune.

Also a normal person can't make the decision that he did I believe. He sees himself as a transformative peerless figure.

  • @crazedmongoose03

Well here's where it gets tricky- because the trouble is, he IS a transformative learner, he IS good enough to make his own fortune, and, to be perfectly honest, he IS just plain superior to everyone else on the planet. So the question is, can you still consider thinking of yourself as intellectually superior to everyone else (and therefore following your own logic at the general exclusion of others') arrogance... if you actually are intellectually superior to everyone else?

  • @crazedmongoose03 I think the best historical comparison to Ozymandias is Alexander the Great - another great example of "good intentions paving the road to Hell" . . .

  • @crazedmongoose03 the point of them all having huge faults is to show that even our greatest heroes have HUGE imperfections that almost balance out their saintliness

  • @crazedmongoose03 thats the freaking point, RORSCHACH WAS RIGHT!!!!!!

  • @crazedmongoose03 I think that's the main point of the movie (and perhaps the graphic novel, which I have yet to read) . . .

  • @jayatfreelance There's a LOT more to the graphic novel than that.

I mean you're not wrong, but I'm just saying there's heaps of other stuff. Buy the graphic novel, read it twice, it is very dense and not even in the same ballpark as the movie.

  • @crazedmongoose03 Thanks! One more reason added to the heaps of reasons for me to quit my stupid day job. I am promising myself that one day (hopefully soon) I will . . .

  • @crazedmongoose03 What about Night Owl I and II?

  • @SirTorment Both Night Owls are pretty much the everyman in a way. Night Owl 2 and Silk Spectre 2 act as more or less the human reference point amongst all these great and terrible men.

  • @crazedmongoose03 Silk spectre and Silk spectre 2 are both whores

  • @clashb I can only assume you're trolling.

  • @crazedmongoose03 I'm not a troll I'm just agreeing with you sorry I sound like a jerk.

  • @clashb Why are they both whores? I disagree vehemently.

  • @crazedmongoose03 Both didn't hesitate to deceive and manipulate people

silk specture 2 manipulated Dr. Manhattan and Night Owl. While her mother the Original Silk Specture lied about the Comedian I'd elaborate more on the subject but the comments are limited. This is just my opinion by the way take it as you will.

  • @crazedmongoose03 well, dressing like a whore is one thing, than pretending you dont want the attention is another, how about getting drunk and getting knocked up by the guy that tried to rape you last week? followed by lying and marrying your manager because hes rich

Oh and than her daughters dating a god on earth with a giant blue dick, she goes and fucks his nerd friend rather than sticking out her big meaningful relationship, theyre both manipulative whores

  • @Taud Haha very sexist, but pretty much correct lol

  • @VisionQuest057 not sexist in the slightest..... you're telling me that her costume wasn't basically a hookers outfit?

Of course it brings attention when you're wearing next to nothing

  • @crazedmongoose03

    Both NIght Owls were Heroes.

Especially the first one was a Golden Age Hero in the truest sense.

  • @crazedmongoose03 ...And that's the dark beauty of the movie; It stands as a statement about the immutable law of human nature: No human is perfect, pure, or absolutely righteous, and everyone has layers. Ozymandias IS a genocidal maniac, but on the flip side, the idiotic, slavering masses NEEDED to be tricked into complacency or they would have nuked the planet into extinction anyway within the week.

  • @VisionQuest057 CRAP... Quadruple-post. Stupid IE browser was bugging out and kept tell me something like "Sorry, you've encountered an errorr" whenever I clicked "Post" so I thought it wasn''t posting LOL... Ignore the repeats

  • @crazedmongoose03 that was the whole point dude.

  • @EmoFoom The closest historical equivalent was the Kent State shootings. But that wasn't the point of this bit.

If you look more into The Watchmen, you'll realise in this world, the civil rights movement of the 60's, freedom summer etc. were all soundly defeated. This is a world where Nixon's been president for decades, where murdering rapists are considered national heroes, where civil protesters are shot with impunity.

  • @EmoFoom All kinda fits when you read that Alan Moore wrote The Watchmen with attacking the excesses of Reaganism in mind.

  • This movie helped me realize there ought to be an Oscar category for best credit sequence.

  • hippies died :( peace & love

  • So damn good music! :)

  • best movie.

  • At 4:16, the Moon landing scene, you can hear him say "good luck, mister Gorsky", which is a funny hoax, which unfortunately didn't happen.

Overall, this is the most brilliant movie into ever made. So many historical references, brilliantly filmed and written.

  • @olegkikin Read the book dude, that's what's flawless.

  • @olegkikin Ha , really interesting fact there glad you pointed it out. I'm also glad that other people realize the sheer brilliance of this intro, I feel like it's underappreciated even if Watchmen was a mainstream movie.

  • did eddie blake shot jfk? why castro was in there? what was it about?

  • @DOINEIGHT yes, he did.

  • @DOINEIGHT Fidel Castro and what I presume to be the oligarchs of the Soviet Union is there to represent the Cold War of the era. I think the director chose Castro is because not many people would have realized that Brezhnev (?) or any other of the oligarchs and therefore lose the meaning of that scene.

  • I own the director's cut too, it's the only version of the film worth seeing. Cutting the first N. O.'s death scene robbed the film of its soul, changing it from a film about magnificent triumph in adversity to bland acceptance of mediocrity. The theatrical release is okay but the director's cut is archetypal.

  • Incredible movie. I bought the directors cut so I could see the animated part of the pirate comic that was cut for time. The Watchmen is one of my favorite graphic novels that was ahead of its time. I was extremely happy to see the material be given the respect it warrents.
