I believe there is no need to massage inside the belly button. Therefore I do not perform it. Belly button is the most natural and old scar tissue. You cannot do much with it.
Maybe somebody does it believing that this particular point is very biological active. I have no knowledge on this.
I have trouble getting abdominal recruitment for purposes of enforcing proper anterior pelvic tilt and also for strength exercises where I am told hip flexors take over. I am wondering if we can learn to do this better. I sometimes had pain below (inferior to) abs, though above pelvis so not sure if it was pelvic floor, but I find digging around in there, though painful to touch, helpful in the long term of avoiding pain from the pressure of lying prone on one's stomach.
